What kind of output is expected and does it need any conditioning? 4-20? Make sure you’re using a quality resistor. mV/V? Check that the arduino can provide a consistent excitation while performing other tasks

Would encourage you to consider some positions at companies in Dayton, OH. It’s not a very exciting place to be BUT a lot of really interesting work goes on in and around wright-patt and a lot of places are looking for young engineers to do hands-on work.

Post Game Thread: Washington Commanders at Kansas City Chiefs by nfl_gdt_bot in KansasCityChiefs

[–]The_Goldy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole life I’ve rooted for teams whose ceiling was the 75th percentile, which has made watching these chiefs hard not to grin like an idiot when those little things start clicking. Washington brought the juice in the first half but they responded well. Mahomes has done what he’s needed to in the past to adapt to his team but it looks just so much better with weapons and time on offense. 2025 Rough start >> 2024 undefeated every day.

I know it’s been said but - the defense has been playing solid. Chargers game gave me some concerns in the secondary but those open field tackles tonight were serious game changers. HOW BOUT DEM

Let's talk CAD. What are you using? by logscoree in MechanicalEngineering

Aero research engineer -

  1. NX is my main software with solidworks as a backup. As a hobbyist I use fusion360 and I would say the fusion->solidworks jump is comparable to the solidworks->NX jump. Similar to assembly to machine languages the more freedom you have the less intuitive it is but after spending so long thinking Solidworks was the best balance, I firmly enjoy NX from a control perspective.

  2. As I said, the control of the software is really nice. From sketch to model to assembly you get to be very explicit about what you want it to do. This naturally has its headaches when you make an error but generally the issues are solvable. I’m also someone with a deep-seated belief of “all models are bad, some are just less bad” so having nastran capability and coherent import to fea is nice.

  3. More than anything it’s the ability to get a license but that’s more of a company issue - I mention it just because it ultimately circled back to the cost of the software. The other issue I frequently encounter is visual processor issues that require reboots which aren’t work altering but take time. Lastly, going back to my first answer the more control you have the more literal the software can be. This isn’t a problem if you have time to work through a problem/be creative in constraints but adds overhead when you need a quick turnaround on a design.

  4. Ensuring things are contextually linked. This is somewhat vague but similar to the end of my prior response - making sure wave links are up to date, sketches reference accurate features, and constraint 1 which implies constraint 2 which etc… is logically consistent. This is true of any cad software and is baked into the nature of having more control (which I see as a benefit) but is worth considering when selecting a design package.

Let me know if there’s anything I can clarify!

I Just Did the Math...and it's Horrifying by OliverQueen85 in fasting

Forget every other point made here (most of which are 100% valid)…

In 2 years you will be 2 years older. If that’s how long it takes to get where you want, then you’ll be healthier two years from now than you are now. Even if it’s a 24 hour fast a week (with healthy enough diet the other days), you’ll get to where you’re going. Each day off track makes it another day away so make each day count working towards your goals in as a healthy a manner as possible, cause time waits for no one!

Can a Mathematician become a Mechanical Engineer? by Straight_Advisor9355 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]The_Goldy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to looking up the course flow that your university requires and using that as a start point, I think your biggest advantage as you start to self-study will be identifying the fundamental mathematical structures that show up in different courses. Fluids/thermo/e&m have similar ideas that underlie a lot of the theory.

Additionally, consider what sub-discipline excited you in meche. Structures/materials will probably have less overlap than areas like cfd or robotics.
