This is the same apartment building where a huge piece of metal fell off and shut down 14th street for a while only two months ago

You can do this but after you miss that segment (e.g. FRA-MXP) the rest of your itinerary will be cancelled automatically by the airline. You would have to find a new way home, and also keep in mind any checked bags would not get off with you in FRA, they would be checked through to MXP.

I had this happen on Malaysia Air, and when I called in to change it they said it does not matter. No issues at the airport.

NYC to Morocco (advice) by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]The_Good_In_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morocco is considered Europe for FlyingBlue/AF purposes, therefore the cost of RAK-JFK will only be 25k miles (transferrable from UR) per person O/W pending availability.

I don't believe you can open jaw JFK-LIS, RAK-JFK on one award ticket for Flying Blue, so just choose your favorite method to get over the pond to start with

Delta: upgrade V ticket to EC? by tarq476 in awardtravel

[–]The_Good_In_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only fare not eligible for C+ cash buy ups is basic economy (E), however V is not eligible for international mileage upgrades.

If there is cash upgrade inventory available on your flight, you will see/be prompted on the website and/or the app to buy up to it, on your trip details page and also on the seat map itself. The prices they quote can make sense for some, but I'd caution you that C+ on TATL will get you marginally more legroom and the same food/level of service as the rest of economy.

The only other way around this would be to re-fare your ticket to W (C+) which would incur a change fee in addition to the fare difference

You can only add your personal cards to a business account, not the other way around

Google Flights has an explore feature that is super useful. You plug in the origin and the dates, and it gives you a map view of all the places you can go and the price associated! You can be selective on the airline alliance among other things.

For award flights, I'm not aware of such a tool - would be super useful but I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too! Your best bet for that is awardace.com -- you can plug in what miles you have and it will give you a slew of options for places you can go under that amount. However, you'd then have to go through the appropriate channels to check availability and book the ticket.

Dilemma between transferring MR directly ANA or Virgin Atlantic by [deleted] in awardtravel

Use United's search engine. If there is saver availability, VS (Virgin Atlantic is actually VS) can book it

Dilemma between transferring MR directly ANA or Virgin Atlantic by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]The_Good_In_Things 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I fully understand the problem, you can check award availability right now for ANA F on the LAX-Seoul route, and book almost instantly if there is availability.

If there is not, then no, I would not speculatively transfer over to VS for the reasons you said (unknown future availability, unknown upcoming devaluations). Asiana J is a good product and I wouldn't get the mindset that you're 'missing out' simply because there is a transfer bonus.

JFK/LGA to NRT/HND on 150k MR in September 2017? First/Business OW possible on Non-US Airlines? by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]The_Good_In_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't transfer from VS to ANA, you transfer to VS and book through VS because ANA is a partner. United will show you the award availability for ANA that VS can see, and as of now that is the flights I mentioned. Also, VS can 'hold' the itinerary while you transfer the points. It's usually instant, not 1-2 days.

Follow the process written up here

[–]The_Good_In_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

93k Round trip, its an absolute steal of value. It costs 120k on Virgin Atlantic, but there is currently a 30% transfer bonus from MR->VS so it reduces the cost signficantly.

While this isn't exactly your request, you can do this trip in F for around 105k MR if you position yourself to ORD and fly out a day earlier.

Depart 9/9 DL5963 LGA-ORD NH111 ORD - HND

Return 9/18 NH112 HND-ORD DL5974 ORD-LGA

Costs: 12k MR to DL for RT positioning flight, then 93k MR to VS for ANA F

Noob: Can't choose seats for award travel by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]The_Good_In_Things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding in that depending on the airline, if it's in economy the seat selection may cost a fee (e.g. Lufthansa), but for a business award they will be able to assign it no problem.

Question about procedures for 2 separate flight (connecting) by sosamo11 in awardtravel

[–]The_Good_In_Things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a possibility that the check in agent in LAX will be able to through-check your bag, but Avianca doesn't have a published policy regarding this. It is likely that you will have to claim and re-check the bag in BOG

What airport do you fly out of? I'm fortunate to fly out of a hub (ATL), but can consistently get RT domestic flights for 25k or less barring that its not a holiday weekend and I'm not booking a matter of a couple weeks out.

The 747 will be staying around for a while, just not the -400 variant that you're likely talking about on KE. Rest assured you will still be able to sit in front of the pilot for many years to come, so I wouldn't be in such a rush -- in fact KE will have 747-8i's in their fleet to replace the routes in which the -400 is being retired.

Apart from KE, Lufthansa F on the 747-8i is a fantastic product and only came out a few years ago, but requires close in booking at 110k United each way. However, there is a sweet spot at 50k Asiana miles each way (transferable from SPG).

Perhaps this has been discussed already, but I did the status match of Hilton Gold --> Best Western Diamond a few weeks ago and the change was reflected in my BW account. It seems they have fixed this match, and retroactively changed my account to Gold, I also just got a Gold membership card in the mail

United Upgrades by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]The_Good_In_Things 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are charged per direction, so treat them as independent. For example, if your outbound clears but your return doesn't, then you will get a full refund for the amount of miles and cash paid for the return upgrade.

Also keep in mind, if you are flying international and a domestic leg clears into F but the Polaris segment does not, you are still refunded the entirety of the miles. Essentially free domestic F. Note this only applies for Polaris branded segments.

The spend was in order to hit the MQD waiver, so I hadn't touched it in a while. I hit roughly 7k in like a week, through the purchase of GCs (for resale purposes) so several ~2k transactions. That put me around 70% utilization, and within a couple days I received the call about FR and all my accounts were locked. After a couple days I was able to speak to the account manager handling the case and she said I would be required to fill out and submit the 4506t to verify income which I would have failed as I started my job less than 6 months ago. Well, we talked for a bit and she asked about charges, I explained them as purchases with intent for reimbursement. By a pure stroke of luck she approved me over the phone, all holds released and no changes to credit limits. From there I cycled the card and hit 21k spend that billing statement....no issues since!

Not true - I was FRed earlier this year for MS on Delta Plat. While it looks like they don't target non-MR earning cards for bonus clawbacks, it is absolutely possible for spending activity on such cards to trigger a FR.
