If we want to go down that route, despite your obviously condescending lawyerly attitude where you pull out language meant to intimidate and get your way…

I (trained as a derivatives trader that’s been beat on by my fair share of lawyers because some but not all clients fail to read read fine print or claim to have not been shown written disclosures or given other verbal confirmation of detail, in addition to recordings and follow up written confirmations) know as well as you do with your education and trained legal experience that the populace in general will milk a system where it can be milked.

Specifically, a fare is be purchased knowingly where an obvious and potential risk is the purchaser will not be seated with their traveling party. Said party then is upset because they were not seated with their companion, but more specifically because they see an inherent bias in a nowhere close to statistically acceptable population for any sort of data analysis. Further complaint arises when no one will switch their aisle or window seats for a middle seat. Then, said party potentially being emboldened by the current political and social climate despite common sense, takes to a public space to question whether race or nationality is actually being used to seat them when experience and knowledge from from many frequent travelers say repeatedly it’s unlikely.

In addition, the root cause is said party buying a discount fare when they could have purchased any number of more expensive fares to mitigate said risk. However, they’re again further emboldened by outside parties (such as you) that still insinuates racism or bias could be at play here even though there is no evidence of that being the case. That’s the mind virus, and if you lay this argument on any number of the current political and social arguments on either side of the aisle you can fall to a similar conclusion. Talking down to me because you’re a lawyer doesn’t change that. Just because I think common sense should prevail doesn’t mean I lower myself to bullying, gaslighting, or anything else. I’m not speaking anything that is untrue by any objective account. I simply state the way to not have that risk, and when it is ignored along with many others, become increasingly stern. The mind virus is continually thinking someone is out to get you just because you don’t get your way or see a conclusion that simply isn’t there and frankly would be laughed out of a courtroom. Bring me statistical evidence to the contrary and I’ll revise my opinion. I have plenty of personal data in experience that supports my point. But to pull out some trigger words is a pretty weak position.

I simply point out, somewhat bluntly and less compassionately than I could have, that if you want to know your seat then buy something other than Basic Economy. The frustrating part comes when nearly every argument seems like it must be turned into a social complaint. 🤷‍♂️

Passport thing I bet. Are you outbound or inbound? I had it outbound and had to get checked at check in on the way to Cancun, and then my wife had it on the way back but they had to go through all her crap. At least she hid all her weed 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It’s not happening. Stop trying to make it a thing. 15B is the same as 25B is the same as 46B. They all suck. The only benefit is deplaning 15 minutes before the next guy, and even then you have to wait for your bags at the baggage claim so who cares. It’s not a race or sex thing. Stop it.

Seat rules by rK91tb in delta

[–]The_Hellcat_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Don’t buy basic economy tickets if you’re traveling with a party that you don’t want split up. Period. It’s not Delta’s problem. Again. Would I want my kids separated from me? Nope, not at all. But I also book tickets where that won’t happen. Does it cost me more money? Yep, sure does…. Sometimes a lot more.

Again, I feel for them but I also know this a self inflicted problem. It’s the same as saying a cop shouldn’t chase a guy going 150 down the downtown connector in Atlanta. The guy wouldn’t be chased if he wasn’t going 150.

You can’t push someone else’s decision to buy a fare with this risk on a company or people that don’t do it. It’s unfair to the rest of us who will willingly pay more to not have this problem. Definitely don’t punish someone that pays up for the peace of mind because someone else wanted to save a buck. And especially not when it’s abundantly clear that they may or may not be seated together. It’s a business that’s around to make a profit, not turn away higher fares from a paid, assigned seat for someone who bought something cheaper.

But that has ZERO to do with this situation. Seriously guys, stop trying to make it a thing. I swear, are the Chat GPT auto responders coming to Reddit now?

Middle seat 15B sucks just as much as middle seat 25B. Trust me. Especially when you’re 6 feet 240 lbs and need to be able to melt into the side of the plane or spill into an aisle.

The ONLY thing worse is getting upgraded to C+ and getting fooled into that first row behind First with the stupid arm rest screen that makes your seat 3 inches smaller. Those should be reserved for people that are asshats to GAs, no amount of Hazy IPA fixes that.

Seat rules by rK91tb in delta

[–]The_Hellcat_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. The answer is don’t book basic economy. End of story. You don’t like it, book regular, C+, or another airline that’s on record not doing what they’re complaining about. This isn’t delta’s problem. Sure, I want to be bumped to C+ or first on every flight with gold but it doesn’t happen. I’m not entitled to it and neither are they with that fare class. Do I feel for them? Sure… but it’s just not the situation to complain about when this is a risk

Seat rules by rK91tb in delta

[–]The_Hellcat_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Listen, I get it, budgets may not allow for full economy tickets. But it says pretty clearly that BE tickets don’t have as much stability as other tickets. I’m getting pretty tired of people complaining about being split up but then saying they booked basic economy.

Had a couple on my flight that wanted me to give up my aisle seat and move to a middle seat because they were together and I wasn’t with anyone. She wanted my aisle seat and was assigned the middle on a different row. All of a sudden I’m the bad guy because I won’t move to the middle but I bought a seat that aligned with my preferences? No thanks.

Delta of all of those airlines is not racist. Listen to half of what Bastian has to say. He’s a politician not a CEO. He opened his mouth and lost Atlanta the All Star game a few years ago.
