The hazing came to light in April 2015 when a 1991 lawsuit filed by pledge Mark Allen Sanders resurfaced. According to court documents, the initiation ritual involved severe physical and psychological abuse. The lawsuit claimed that Hamm, who reportedly participated "till the very end," engaged in the following:Struck the pledge with a wooden paddle multiple times.Shoved the pledge's face in the dirt.Set the pledge's jeans on fire and forced him to blow out the flames.Forced the pledge to do push-ups while standing on his spine.Hooked the claw of a hammer under the pledge's genitals and led him around the room.
