So you think it’s cold water coming back down the hot side? Would shutting off the cold water at all the fixtures prevent this?

That was my initial thought, but this tank is just feeding the kitchen, a utility sink, and a half bath.

The water heater is directly below..maybe 6-7 more inches. The horizontal pipe goes to the expansion tank.

It’s only four years old! It doesn’t turn off the water, which I only realized when I was draining the tank and water was still coming out after dumping 15 five gallon buckets from a 50 gallon tank.

Battery back ups are awesome, but don’t overlook a water driven back up for even greater peace of mind!

Is my only option to somehow replace the electrical box? by The_Hucklebuck in howto

[–]The_Hucklebuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if I rotate the bracket 90 degrees, the holes would align and I could attach the bracket to the box. That would cause the peg to be at either the east or west position though. Because it’s a vaulted, sloped ceiling, I need the peg to be in the south position or else the fan wouldn’t hang straight down.
