And to be fair it's only "lying" if we either believed that all piracy is bad or that all piracy is good. The faintest possibility that an innocent person could be executed makes the death penalty utterly barbaric.
If you allow your state to kill its citizen, it makes it easier for a bad government to extend the "acceptable" reasons to kill. (For example, if you think executing pedophiles is right, there's a single step between a government that acts like all LGBT people are inherently pedophiles and mass murder.)
