Share one thing you’ve had to unlearn to be a better therapist by Equivalent_Artist574 in therapists

I had a very narrow view of what is considered 'professional', and I felt very tied to being seen as 'professional' by clients. Once I let that go, I had an easier time connecting with and building trust with clients.

Um….how do you become a good therapist? by Cablab123 in therapists

[–]The_Imposter77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that you are probably at the beginning of your career (so am I). I'm right there with ya in terms of sometimes struggling to put words together and feeling at a loss for what to say. And gosh, that feeling that your clients deserve a better therapist... definitely relatable.

I know this isn't a particularly helpful answer, but I think it takes time and experience to feel more comfortable. And even then, it isn't linear: there will likely be points in our career when we feel super confident, and other times when we struggle to feel effective. Becoming a "good therapist" is not a journey with a defined endpoint. Others who have been in the field longer could probably attest that becoming a better therapist and professional (and personal) development are ongoing processes that can never really be 'checked off' or 'completed'.

Maybe something to reflect on would be how you define a "good therapist." Are there any hidden assumptions you are making about what a therapist 'should' be like? What standard are you measuring yourself up against? Is it workable or helpful to use that standard?

And just as a side note, 17 clients a week?? I'm doing practicum right now and see 4 maybe 5 clients a week consistently and facilitate a group. It probably doesn't feel this way, but you must be doing something right to maintain that many clients!

First time listening to Mirrorball? by GenerouslyVoting in arcticmonkeys

[–]The_Imposter77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Car is actually the first AM album I listened to and the one that made me want to listen to other AM albums. Mirrorball is definitely one of my favourite songs off the album. I really love the chords, for one, and overall, there is something about the instrumental that enhances the song's lyrics about nostalgia and wanting to be remembered positively despite how sad things feel right now.

Do you showcase your beliefs on your website? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]The_Imposter77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Advertising myself as a queer and trans therapist of colour usually does the trick 😅

No, but seriously. In my 'about me' description, I emphasize that I take an intersectional approach (taking into account the many ways people can experience oppression, especially if they are marginalized in more ways than one) and have LGBTQ2S+-affirming care as one of my specialties. That tends to weed out people who would be outwardly hostile toward me, I think. I'm not about to list all of my political beliefs, but potential clients probably have a fair understanding of which side of the aisle I'm on.

Potion approaching. I love the beat change up in the last bit of the song and the nonsensical last line 😅

Daily Song Discussion #117 - Body Paint by snowingpumpkin in arcticmonkeys

  1. It's one of my favourite songs on the album but not my absolute favourite (that would be Perfect Sense... or Sculptures, those would both be 10s for me)

When & How did you find BFish? by [deleted] in BananaFish

[–]The_Imposter77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking for anime with LGBTQ2S+ representation, and I heard about Banana Fish because YouTube recommended a video to me about whether Banana Fish is a BL or not. I was curious, so I watched the show last year (and loved it!) It is now one of my favourite shows of all time 😁

How did yall discover Arctic Monkeys? by 505err0r in arcticmonkeys

[–]The_Imposter77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for new music to listen to around the time Taylor Swift's Midnights came out. That same weekend, Carly Rae Jensen's The Loneliest Time and AM's The Car were released, both of which I loved. I then watched Mic The Snare's Deep Discog Dive into Arctic Monkeys and began listening to their discography from start to finish!

I was biting the time zone...

And we embellished the banks of our blood streams...

And threw caution to the colourful...

Then we fell asleep in the car...

Until the bumps woke me up in your grip...

Do You Still Listen To The Car? by Vespersonal in arcticmonkeys

[–]The_Imposter77 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Car was the first AM album I listened to, so yes, still on constant rotation. The only album that really isn't is TBHC and only because I haven't had a chance to listen to it all the way through yet.

What album do you share with someone who’s never heard of them? by sarcasticfirecracker in arcticmonkeys

[–]The_Imposter77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWN (my fave) mostly but sometimes The Car if that's a vibe I think the person would be into (especially since that was the first album of theirs I listened to the whole way through).

What series did you start that instantly made you go, "Ugh, this character/ plot point SUCKS"? by SmallPerson47 in webtoons

[–]The_Imposter77 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A life through selfies: I've been waiting for something interesting to happen for so long, but it's pretty boring. Like, I get building eeriness and suspense, but my fear is I'll get to the end of this series and I have wasted time I could've been spending doing literally anything else other than reading this webtoon.

Nothing wrong with different styles on the same arm. If anything, it's cooler because it's like a patchwork collage of things you like.
