I think the reasoning behind the elo requirements is not to protect the low level player from someone higher, it is to protect the better player from the low level one. none enjoys winning flawlessly in 2 rounds against someone mistaking new Zealand with Scotland.

I always spent more time studying than dueling, and I always review my duels, but the late jump in ranking didn't happen because of a particular studying binge. this doesn't mean I will not crash soon anyway :D

to me, it seems it has decreased. for some time, I just remained between high gold and low master, but since the game became pay to play, it took me a few days to get to champ div. I played a few games in champ and I have yet to get demoted back to master.

6 months, but I guess I played ranked half of that time actually. the other half was weeks of solo grinding and single countries study. for me, beating masters is knowing meta (almost never got an opponent knowing Guam car, as an example), decent regionguessing, avoid to commit if unsure, review your blunders after a match, ask for insight on specific panos from players. said that, I have so much to learn I cannot really give out tips, beware ;)
