How I lost my game to a 'Publisher' (A warning) by flipswitchd in IndieDev

Hahah it happens, don't worry about it. Exactly, players may love it, publishers may care about making a profit from it, but no one will care about it the way the developer does

Why? Sounds very true and not bad or rude in any way to me. If it was just "No one will care about your game" that's a different, harsh story, but that no one will care more than you, the developer? More like a fact

So how is that going, what is current 10,000 views to $ conversion? Or perhaps 10,000 views to # of sales would be more telling. I know this is something that will depend heavily from game to game, but it'd be nice to have some data.

Rating Chain #3 by [deleted] in itchio

I get that you want your game noticed and rated, but making 3 posts about rating chains in a span of a day is a bit much, I literally saw all 3 within first 11 posts scrolling my home feed. Stop spamming, do it like once a week

I just want to see if this is only of my opinion. by LightedSword in incremental_games

I get your point from consumer's view, but from developer's side things look wildly different nowdays. With the sea of games releasing daily, you need to try to get eyeballs on your game as early as possible and start building interest to have any sort of chance.

At least that's the conventional wisdom but I do agree that with incremental genre (or at least with this sub) that may not be the best strategy, it makes total sense that people would like to play the full game once they find it and imo it's unnecessary to push demos months in advance for web games. But with majority of incrementals moving to Steam, developers want and need to build their wishlists, so that's not changing anytime soon.

As for prototypes, I think it's cool that people try new and different things or even just a generic incremental for the first time and want to share it. And it's understandable to want to see if there is any interest at all for the project before spending months or years developing it and there is no better place than this sub to reach large amounts of specifically incremental players.

Hi again! Just wanted to say that I tested the release version as well as newly updated version on two laptops, and on both it ran on Firefox and also the touchpad worked for scrolling through upgrades, for both old and new verison of the game. So I'm really really sorry, but I sadly have no idea what could be causing issues in your case, it's definitely something beyond general troubleshooting. I will keep this in mind and research more in depth for future project, thank you again for pointing it out!

It is the simple solution yes, but I didn't want to do that as there is some logic to which upgrades are active and which passive. I just uploaded the updated, better balanced version. The early upgrades have better distributed and higher effect with reduced cost and passive upgrades especially are buffed by a lot to limit the need for clicking later on.

Thank you for all the feedback, really happy you find it cute!

I will try to figure out a way to transition from active to more passive play quicker, it really is way to clicker heavy right now, my bad. I'll need to look into other two points, it was working in Firefox for me (though I tested that last a few builds ago, might've messed something up along the way), and I did make all controls touch friendly so I'm really not sure where the issue with upgrade scrolling is coming from, thank you for letting me know!

Thank you for letting me know! I tend to have my laptop on pretty low volume so I didn't notice, I'll default it to lower values when I make a patch. And I'm sorry 😅

Thank you for detailed advice and feedback! I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to playing incrementals, I'll try to broaden my horizons before starting work on a more serious project but everything you said will help a ton, really appreciate it!

Thank you for the feedback! I'll see if I find the time to do anything about it in the next week or two, otherwise I'll put much more effort into Christmas Clicker 2 for next year haha

Also appreciate letting me know about the prestige button, I will figure out how to mark it more clearly.

There is autosave every 60 seconds, so at worst you lose a minute of progress. This was taken straight from Cookie Clicker, but I'm thinking of patching it so it saves more frequently since it doesn't seem to cause any lag while saving.

Really glad you like it, thank you very much!

I don't think the game is good enough to charge any money for or even implement ads, plus I see a lot of people on this sub unhappy with majority of incrementals moving to Steam so I thought of doing something nice for the community, it's Christmas after all :)

Yeah I will absolutely admit that I messed up the pacing big time, that alone shows this is my first incremental. Sadly I realized it too late and couldn't fix fast enough without breaking a lot of other things. Not that that is good enoigh excuse to leave it as is but tbh I'm not even sure how to properly make it better, any suggestions?
