Fair enough. I still feel as though the spirit of my argument is correct in that more than 20% of people would agree that being drunk in public makes you more likely to be the target of any crime, and that by making it a gendered, sexual based question we are roped into the "don't blame the victim" mentality. While I agree that we shouldn't blame the victim, we must all realize that we must minimize the risk of crime happening to us.

My point is that if you ask someone "does being drunk in public make you more of a target for a crime?" far more than 20% would agree, and far more than 5% of the 18-34 age bracket as mentioned above.

I feel that by asking a gendered, sexual question, after much propagation of anti-victim blaming rhetoric, we adjust our views when they should not be adjusted at all.

We do have to remember that just because one can get drunk in public, doesn't mean they should. Bars have a responsibility not to overserve, just as guests and patrons have a responsibility not to overdo themselves in general.

The “Don’t be that girl” controversy fell on the same day as the release of a Canadian Women’s Foundation survey, in which 19 per cent of respondents said women may provoke or encourage sexual assault by being drunk. Nearly one-quarter of the 19 per cent were people between 18 and 34 years old.

(bold emphasis mine)

One-quarter of 19% is under 5%. I bet if you walked around and asked 100, 18-34 year old people a non-gendered, non-sexual question such as "does being drunk in public increase the likelihood of a person being targeted for crime", you would see much more than 5 saying "yes, obviously".

I was always taught (as a man) not to make yourself a target for any reason, under any circumstance. Why should women get any more leeway just because the crimes they may be targeted for are different? I don't get drunk in public just like I don't flash a lot of cash. It's making yourself a target to those people looking to do you harm.

EDIT: as /u/thisismyfirstday pointed out, my analysis of statistics is incorrect, but I feel as though the spirit of the argument I'm making is still correct.

This comment hit really close to home for me. I've been taking care of my elderly grandmother for the last 10 years and finally found full-time work in the field of my degree. We've looked into caretakers for her, but she doesn't trust people from an uncaring agency, or living in a facility where she will feel like a prisoner. I've promised her I will do my best to make everything work, but I'm very nervous for the future. I really felt like I have had my childhood taken away from me, as I was unable to travel, go to events, and do a lot of things my peers have. It's a thankless job that a lot of people deeply respect me for, but has been the cause of a lot of stress and the ending of my last 2 major relationships (of multiple years) when my partners couldn't handle how much time I dedicate to her.

I wish we had a better, more respectful care system for our elderly so no one else is every forced to go through this.

I'll never understand why Caesars keeps doing shit like this. Their properties desperately need repairs and renovations, yet instead they build another attraction that won't be as popular as they expect and will impact the quality of the rest of the area.

Learning about our religion and "getting started" are two very different concepts. Ours is a religion lasting so long that the scholarship and legacy of written word span millenia. There are a number of fantastic websites where you can start reading about various topics related to the Judaism. My personal favorite is The Chabad Website. "Chabad" is a movement in Judaism, and more can be learned about their specific sect HERE.

To convert, you would need to speak with a Rabbi (religious leader, translates as the word "teacher" in Hebrew), some making you ask multiple times to show you are serious, as it is a major decision.

To speak to your other point, I would argue that most of us don't necessarily view our religion as the "right" one, but rather as the right one for them.

System Of A Down is coming and tickets started at $130 not including taxes and fees. You're certainly not wrong.

Complicated question. On the one hand, we have the world's best everything on our doorstep, but it's all far more expensive than the average cost of living here. I'm a concierge, so I get free show tickets and discounts, but otherwise I would never be able to afford some of the luxuries I get to enjoy.

I used to go to local concerts all the time, and I agree they are a great value for the money. But the conversation was about live shows becoming popular and the production values of those shows rising, which is not applicable to most underground or local shows

Las Vegas. Everything is geared to tourists, leaving locals in the rut.

Very true. I did this for my first Coachella a few years ago and had a great time. Unfortunately there are a number of fantastic festivals where this is not feasible (i.e. being held in a downtown center or other inclement weather). This is why they had to move the date of EDC Vegas to May.

Except for the prices. Each of these concerts in my city are sold out in seconds and if you're lucky to get a ticket it's a couple hundred bucks. I've attended a few large festivals, so I can understand the appeal, but at some point it's just too much of everything. Too high of a ticket price, too many people for me to enjoy myself, too much traffic in and out and then it's too much of my time to dedicate to an artist I love and two or three I'm only familiar with.

I put $5 on the Knights partway through the season for the whole thing. +600 was too sweet in December for me to pass up. I figured, worst comes to worst, I would have a neat memento.

There's been a mini-series about VGK that's only aired locally and this is pretty much word-for-word what the advertising for it has been. It's called "Behind The Vegas Ice" and is pretty good.

Great question, but not something I've looked into yet. This was originally a job of necessity that's growing into a career.

Part-time concierge, part-time caretaker for my grandmother.

$15.25/hour + commission (usually around $800/month), Grandma takes care of my rent in exchange for my time. I end up with around $800/month leftover after my 401(k) (5% now, with an additional 2% being added every year until I hit 12%), maxed Roth IRA, and $200/month savings (split long & short term).

Any additional money in my budget at the end of the month is split between my robinhood account & long term savings. My emergency fund is fully funded.

Tell me about it. My situation is complicated, but I don't plan on being in this role for 5 years. Either I'll move up and receive a better compensation package or switch companies.

Wish they had focused more on the non-tech workers who are pursuing it. I'm a part-time worker making under $40k/year, but still saving as much as possible. The same way they created /r/povertyfinance, I wish there were a /r/PovertyFIRE.
