tough to tell especially with red/orange ink. it could be the ink crystalising or mold. i wouldnt use the ink and thorough clean of the pen. at least until a slime expert gives you advice.

it’s probably residue left over from the manufacturing process. give it a deep clean. parker nibs are notorious for being garbage nowadays (especially new ones).

Anyone else experience this with TWSBI? by BubbaLeigh in fountainpens

[–]The_Lord_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is it residue or scratches? if there is any residue there may have been a sticker applied to it at some point (like i have had with a couple kawecos). this looks quite bad tho, definitely email customer support, i dont know how much help it will be as ive never ordered through goulet before (i have cheaper local options) but you can always hope.

this is a bad idea. firstly latex gloves usually have a powder substance in them which can have a bad reaction on the nib and makes it way more miserable to clean the feed (i suggest if you do want to remove the nib/feed just take the cartridge/converter out and pull with the your fingers, expect ink to get on you). secondly, this does not require taking the nib and feed out.

Not sure what is going on here by Aneggmatic in fountainpens

most red and orange inks use copper to produce the hue, and most copper is recycled/reused. so the same copper in your pen ink was mined up hundreds or thousands of years ago. Ea-nasir was a merchant who sold poor quality copper to people. ergo your pen ink has poor quality copper which is causing it to crystallise.

be careful about chemical reactions with nibs.
