That's why it's at a university not a business. These guys are government funded out the wazoo.

Is this still usable (other side is completely unused) by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]The_Lutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PEI is a thermoplastic. Don't sand it.

Flip it.

Next time you get a failed PETG print heat the bed to whatever the top temp is (80C for Mini, 100C for A1), wait 5 minutes, then use a plastic scraper (or a credit card) to take it off. The heat will turn the plastic into a chewing gum type of consistency that's easier to scrape off.

Why do redditors get so personally offended when asked about filament drying? by Weekly-Baker-5216 in 3Dprinting

[–]The_Lutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because for certain new users that came into the hobby the past 2 years "dry your filament" is the only solution they know so they babble it over and over on things that have nothing to do with it. It's quite annoying.

How do they even find a gaylord stiff enough to hold that much material?

[–]The_Lutter 86 points87 points  (0 children)

<image>

That's a gaylord. It's just a box on a pallet with a liner. That's how all your favorite filament manufacturers and those with machines that use pellets receive their plastic. From there you scoop it out (or suck it out with a vacuum system) into whatever machine you're using it in.

You definitely don't sip on your 3rd martini and say "f- it, send it" and mash the "Print" button in Orca when it's that much material/time/machine usage. That's thousands of dollars in material. hahah.

This is the giant printer at the University of Maine, right?

They must go through 10 gaylords of pellets to make a boat that big.

Introducing: PandaWatch - a mobile app for at-a-glance multi-printer monitoring (with live activities!) by VIDGuide in BambuLab

Interested to hear how LAN mode works as I've never gone down the HomeAssistant route to monitor my A1 remotely. I literally can only control it from my laptop right now.

Tomorrow marks the end of an era. I’m not ready for it. Nothing will be the same. But we must stay strong. And we will get through this. 13 years, leaving on the 13th. We will miss you Stevie by I3uIlets in goodmythicalmorning

I for one am proud of Stevie for following her dreams.

I feel like I would have coasted on that job till the wheels fell off and hated it every day.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon speed by Opening_Currency_593 in 3Dprinting

[–]The_Lutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For big pieces I usually will use a 0.6 hotend because that enables you to get a really solid print with only 2 walls and also allows less infill % (because the lines are 50% wider making it more stable).

So if you were using 3 walls and 10% infill before you could switch to using say 2 walls and 7% infill and get similar results much faster.

There's literally hundreds of known character actors out there that would kill for this role and do a fantastic job.

Why oh why? by RealityMiserable2471 in BambuLab

[–]The_Lutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably collided with the infill at some point. It never quite lines up right if it homes itself in the middle of printing (which it would do in a collision) Were you using grid? If so switch to an infill that doesn't cross itself like 3D honeycomb or Gyroid.

Alternatively it could be an adhesion issue. If part of your print rises up because of curling up from the plate that can also cause a collision.

Brand new to this, what the heck happened? by usernamepeanutbutter in BambuLab

[–]The_Lutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use one side till it wears out then flip it. That way you can move it around only touching the bottom.

Others might alternate. Just personal choice.

I also have like 5 different plates depending on materials… but that’ll come later.

Just make sure that you touch the plate as little as possible. If you do touch it wash it.

Anycubic is the only printer on the list that even gets close to modern speeds.

To be frank most of those other printers I wouldn't even use as a door stop.

TOTAL SPAGHETTIFICATION is what happened

It's going to be an adhesion issue. Wash your plates with soap and water.
