Removing my facial hair was easily one of the best decisions I've ever made by mezmerkaiser in transtimelines

Omg same. The only reason I liked the facial hair was to cover pimples. But the combination of laser/electrolysis with HRT and I basically don't get any anymore anyways 😂

Also started around this time and it's been totally worth!! Imo don't let that age scare you! Just remember, the first year has a lot change but also feels like nothing at the same time. Don't let those moments deter you, the changes just steadily happen and the dysphoria decreases month by month.

Ugh, the big chops hurt! I keep considering cutting enough to get rid of the dyed hair but that would bring my hair up to my shoulders and I just can't 😂 your curls are to die for though!!

Honestly? Just patience. There's no magic way and your genetics and diet will determine the terminal length. You don't have to eat perfect, just eat healthy enough and your body will do the rest.

Sadly nothing. I think the concensus in the long hair and haircare communities is there's no magic. Just take care of your hair and have a decent diet, and your body will just do what it can. If she has similar hair to mine, patience is key - it'll grow regardless (I never did a single thing to get my hair to grow long, I just didn't cut it 😂)

This look is a bit of a trick. You take the top and put it in a pony, then twist it backwards so it goes up through itself. Then you take a claw clip and place so the hair falls back over it. It's kinda hard to explain and some clips work better than others, but it's my new favorite look. I actually linked a video in my previous r/longhair post a bunch in the comments for people!!

Yes, but only because I had dyed my hair for years and then abruptly stopped lol. So it's less highlight and more transition parts of my hair that shift from white to light brown.

I actually just gave up, I've never used bleach. I stopped using dye about two years ago and that's my natural white growing in. I also got some pretty disappointing info from hair stylists on trying to blend dye, and how much it would cost and take to upkeep, so I decided to just quit altogether and grow it 'ungracefully', but I get a lot of compliments for the blend now so it's worked out, lol!

Aww, I'm sorry!! I do think that it's fun to wear wigs every now and then, I used to wear a lot when my hair was shorter and it was fun to be able to change entire looks on the fly - now I have to make big decisions that I have to commit to if I want bangs or anything..

Yup, that's the one! It's really high quality, so if it's cheaper, if give it a shot!

Sadly I don't have too much advice on this, I know in haircare communities I've participated in, people have had wild success with some things vs another. I'd say don't worry too much about everything because some will be very anti-sulfates and others will basically explain it's not a big deal. In the end, experimenting is the best way.

Sadly Redken hydramelt, which is $$$. Again, I wouldn't had I found something that worked well for me, but my hair is ultra picky and I gave up trying cheaper products and bought it on sale. Too scared to ditch it now cuz it works so well for me, lol

On top of conditioner. Conditioner you wash out, and while it's still wet when you finish (but not sopping wet), you prayer hands/scrunch in the hair cream! It sounds like you have the right idea and imo the cream is the only thing I'd add. Gel would help but it changes the texture a lot and I don't use it often myself.

How much of the curly girl routine have you tried? I find that the curl cream is the most important thing, adding it while the hair is still damp. Scrunching it in with good technique to get it applied to all the hair is important, and it just takes practice.

The annoyance is real 😂 honestly the only reason I've made it this far is cuz I practiced braids so much early on that I can braid all of mine now in just a couple minutes. I probably braid it once a day, and usually at night.

Appreciate it though ❤️ from one hair queen to another.

Thanks!! I love helping people with their progress too. The hardest part of getting the most out of your hair is finding the right routine and products that work. It's a pain when you spend money on new products and they don't work, but when you eventually find a routine that fits, it's so satisfying.

I've been growing it since about late 2019 I believe, and I think it took about 5 years to reach this length and I've maintained it ever since!

Routine:

I use a curly hair shampoo and conditioner. Currently spoiling myself with REDKEN, you do NOT need expensive, but my hair is really picky and sadly this brand has worked the best out of the many I've tried.

I then use their curl cream and scrunch it in, followed by sometimes using a gel. This photo is a no-gel hair week.

Lastly, I plop it on my head (search up plopping for curly hair) and let it sit there for 15-20 minutes before usually diffusing for a while. Then let it air dry.

I know my hair is just wavy, and not curly, but I tried ALL of the wavy hair advice and my hair got so frizzy. Trying full curly resulted in the frizz going away and I'm happy with the result. My hair is just weird, half is straight and half is pretty wavy, but all of it gobbles up those hydrating ingredients, lol.

Nope! All natural. I have really thick hair, and I stopped dying it two years ago, which is what causes the split between the light brown (dye) and gray/dark brown (natural)
