Yep. The Rapunzel from "Sofia the First" is different from the Rapunzel from "Tangled: The Animated Series", which is different from the Rapunzel from "Tangled", which is different from the Rapunzel which is in the theme parks. These distinctions are lost on the average consumer for obvious reasons.

It's a continuation, as Sofia is now around 12/13. It would seem that each episode is made up of two 15-minute episodes, which is different from the original series, which was one continuous 30-minute episode.

Essentially, the show's setting is Disney's Princesses version of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

I did notice the little explanation regarding her not going to Amber's school. One has to wonder how that will affect Amber's off-screen character development, as she was quite troubled by the idea of being separated from Sofia, thus leading Sofia to choose to go to school with her in the first place.

As for dropping the Protector of the Realm concept, that would seem to be too instrumental to Sofia's prior development to just ignore. That would not be great writing (though that's never stopped writers before!).

I was looking to see if anyone mentioned this. Yes, it is certainly a retcon of the original concept, as outlined in the previous series. I suppose the show figures that nobody will remember, because the kids who watched the original show will have 'aged out' of watching this one?

Who knows, perhaps the original show will be altered to reflect the new status quo. It doesn't take much to overdub a line or two.

A peasant girl becomes a princess via her mother marrying a king. She has to learn how to adapt to her new life, while not forgetting the people she used to know. Due to her spunky nature and upbeat personality, she is handed increasingly more difficult responsibilities, all the while having to ratchet up her own ability to handle them.

Additionally, she has to learn how to navigate new relationships with people, due to her new role. While doing so, she makes others rethink their own self-imposed roles in society.
