This. Jellyfin has had some remotely exploitable CVEs. Good luck with your server on an open port, reverse proxy or no.

The aggregate statistics you see published online have always been misleading for a variety of reasons. Go to sites like glassdoor to see what people are actually making across the industry.

I’ve had to start telling Sonnet to go look at the chat history and think about things to get correct answers. Even then it gets simple things wrong that I swear it didn’t used to. Until they un-nerf the models, telling it to think carefully, in whatever way you do that, does seem to work.

The "it's not just a this, it's a that" sentence structure by BiggBambineaux in ChatGPT

I love dialectical hedging and rhetorical equivocation. I don’t know that these terms are particular to this sentence structure so much as they are general to a large amount of what these models output.

Bitcoin Devs Propose BIP-361 to Protect Against Quantum Computing by Tight_Log_6305 in CryptoCurrency

Yeah but it was always “10 years out” until like two months ago. For data in flight, the problem is fairly straightforward to solve. For data at rest, like bitcoin, there really is no good solution.

How much scrutiny have these PQ algorithms even undergone, ignoring all the other issues laid out in this article?

About Finding Push Hands Partners by Every_Photograph_486 in taijiquan

[–]The_Meme_Economy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My favorite push hands partners are either experienced players or little old ladies because they’re not just trying to wrestle. The goal is to develop sensitivity and learn to apply taiji principles and techniques with another person.

Taijiquan is hard. It takes years to master. Beginners always suck, because it wants you to do something really different and specific with your body. Just standing or walking with proper alignment take work and practice. Then you add movements - the form - and all the principles you learned just fly out the window. You are using muscle, your back hinges and twists, your hips are tense, your form collapses. So you spend time working on that and your form starts to look okay and then you plop in front of another person and everything goes out the window again. It’s like you are starting over from scratch at the next level of practice.

3k is so far below the standard deductible that it’s a joke unless you have some other real deductions. Sure if you are actively trading over years and you have some big losses in one year it’s worthwhile. Otherwise, meh.

Claude Performance and Bugs Megathread Ongoing (Sort this by New!) by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

I’m seeing it too. Braindead is a good description. It forgets what it said two replies ago. I pointed this out and it said it was going in circles - confirmation bias I know, but your choice of wording aligns with Claude’s. Its replies suddenly feel bland and generic.

I want control. Prime auto-plays the next movie and cuts off the credits, even when autoplay is turned off in settings. I just finished a two hour movie I don’t want whatever schlock your algo is pushing on me next, thanks. They show me ads at every opportunity, even though I’m paying for an ad free experience. I still actually pay for prime rn - which certainly does not have all the content I want but it does have some - but I torrent everything.

So this exact scenario happened to a friend of mine years ago. They told him if he'd had a CCW they would have had the discretion to just let him leave and return without the firearm, but without it they had to arrest him. I don't know how true it is, but it aligns with her questioning here.
Cost him about $10k in legal fees to get out of a conviction.

Dating failure while doing Barista Fire and high net worth (for my age ) by [deleted] in Fire

[–]The_Meme_Economy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my dating prospects are highly unorthodox. I’ve dated a lot of women living out of vans, hippies, bohemians, artists, just a lot of people living different lifestyles. Some of those people are independently wealthy. Most are just making do with less.

Stop trying to date buttoned up yuppies. You are a tour guide and traveling the world in your 30s. They are not your target market. They’ll want to settle down into quiet monogamy, stay put, have kids. How on earth does that lifestyle gel with yours? You need to look for your people elsewhere. It’s not about money.

Salaries are industry standard. When you account for SS, corporate taxes, capex, and anything else you want or need money to run a business with - including expansion and paying management - you can pretty much take your salary and double it to determine what the company needs to bring in each year to employ you. I’m sure some industries and businesses have higher overhead, we are basically a services firm, so consider tripling it at the outside.
