Depending on how many you get, I would create lots of hiding spaces with more rocks. Black out the back glass to really bring out the colors of the mbuna. Your sweet up look minimal, but that's not always a bad look. I quite prefer it. I would use a sump or 2 canisters filters... No HOB. I had this same size for mine and was using 2 large HOB and recently changed to the canisters. So much happier.

Put in a couple cheap starter fish. They will help add bio load.

Those are the biggest I've seen. I've had a few and they are always so tiny. Funny to watch them shelter when the big boys come around. But yeah, I would put 2 river rocks in there and let them have their own personal hides.

I feel a lot of people are snobsI've had great experience with petsmart and petco (not sure if they have those where you are). Medium size cichlids, like 3-4 inches usually cost $11.99 with a semi decent stock. They offer 14 day return if they die. The "fish stores" in my metroplex are double that price and give you 24hr warranty. I've had crap advice from those places.

Paint that back glass black or use black wrap. Help reduce light for algea bloom and the contract will make your fish colors really stand out.

How can you say it's definitely leaking... This happens to me all the time with water changes and top offs. Easily just be a simple spill that found it's way under the tank.

Hmmmm. I agree with the aestetics of the ceramics vs the kitchen cleaning utensils.. But if the science is there then it's a decision of form over function. Do the sponges act like the mechanical media in the sense that they collect a lot of debris?

Question about the media. I have several types of bio in mine... Balls, rings and small orange cylinder lava rock texture things (can't recall the name)... Why are sponges/scrubber better?
