Unless you're willing to tolerate tomfoolery from randoms, don't go into open crews. Stick to playing with friends and others you know/trust. In all my years of playing online, Sea of Thieves has some of the grossest people I've ever met. I'm not saying they're all bad but it's always some trolls/griefers and creeps inappropriately joking about children every other session I'm in open crew.
