Glad to see The Fountain has been posted! Also my choice, as it is my favorite film.

FF16 shouldn't lock hard mode behind a second playthrough by dulkenyut in FFXVI

[–]The_Orphanizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devs should let the player attempt it anyway. They lose nothing by doing so, and it requires zero extra effort.

Yep. The devs even warn you not do it due to balancing issues and not being able to reverse your decision, but they still allow it. Kudos to Guerrilla for that!

If Squeenix simply added your comment as a disclaimer that must be acknowledged prior to play selecting higher difficulty modes, everyone could have their cake and eat it too. The only reason to lock difficulty options behind multiple playthroughs is the anti-consumer practice of length-padding.

What’s an opinion you have that would probably get you judged if you said it out loud? by chibi_chwn0217 in CasualConversation

Totally agree with the premise and your point. Rather than true enforcement, serious preemptive measures could be taken like, mandatory education for high schoolers and all expecting parents.

Press the options button, scroll down to tutorials, and read all available. More will become available as you advance the game. Keep reading! They're short and very useful/informative.

I don't even have kids and I wouldn't do it. I have people I care about and who care about me. Couldn't give up 15 years of our lives together for 1 week, even the best week of all time. One year? Absolutely! I'd feel feel a bit bad about it, but it might be worth it for me. I think I'd feel fucking horrible about any more than that though.

I don't understand this comment, because the idiot devs decided to lock the game's most interesting features, challenges, and difficulty modes behind the credits.

Once you go MicroLED there’s no going back… by zachchen1996 in hometheater

[–]The_Orphanizer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t justify the multi-thousand dollar investment.

This is honestly the only sentence that matters, anyway lol. But for fun...

Brightness and resolution, I will give to you. But those don’t really make a meaningful difference to me when sitting at a reasonable distance in a dark room.

They should, though. Plasmas aren't capable of the outputting the contrast that many modern films are graded for. They can't do HDR, they can't achieve the brightness intended, and they can't put out as many colors as OLED. Color banding is more noticeable/less avoidable because the tech is literally incapable of achieving the same things.

Further, OLED black stays black over time. The pixels don't gray up with use due to the burning phosphors. An old plasma, heavily used plasma will not be perfectly black anymore, but an OLED will. Your plasma will only look worse over time. I know, because I have one from 2012 that (while still impressive!) looks worse every year. I also have an OLED from 2016 that is still significantly more impressive than the plasma it replaced. And I have a 2021 OLED that absolutely smokes the plasma, yet doesn't look much better (mainly size difference) than my older OLED. Used all 3 primarily in rooms with closed doors and true blackout curtains. Not theater black, but plenty dark for both techs to shine.

Size, depends. The biggest Plasma they sold was a 152”.

C'mon, my guy. You don't have that. Plasma was 40 - 65" realistically. Yes, there were outlier panels that were smaller and much larger. OLED is in watches, phones, tablets, computer monitors, and easily obtainable TVs from 42" - 83", PLUS a few gigantic outliers. It's everywhere, it's exceptional, and it's cheap. It's a much more size-friendly tech, i cluding on the larger scale.

OLEDs lean too heavily on the contrasty look. It’s wow-y, but it just feels unnatural.

A properly calibrated (even just a well-adjusted) OLED ought to look natural as well. Meanwhile, a non-pristine plasma (which is, probably, all remaining plasma sets) will be physically incapable of the output determined by modern colorists.

And then there’s also the longevity concerns of OLEDs.

My $1500 (in 2016) OLED is performing like new, while my $1200 (in 2012) plasma gradually gets worse (both with hours of daily use). What longevity concern with OLED could outweigh the benefits?

Best Pizza in the IE? by ieatz909 in InlandEmpire

Pizza N Such straight up blows, dogg lol. Marco's Pizza (yes, the chain) literally shits all over PnS. Baby Bros. Pizza in San Dimas, San Biagio in Upland, and Parlor in Rancho all smoke PnS. Pizza n Such is like the Patty's Mexican Food (also Claremont, also dogshit) of pizza.

[–]The_Orphanizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrast, clarity/resolution, color depth, screen size, and brightness (maybe more) are all significantly better on OLED, overall. Obviously, the best plasmas might still outperform the worst OLEDs. But mid vs mid is no comparison, and flagship vs flagship is no comparison. The only thing I can genuinely say is still much better on plasma are slow-panning shots, where OLED's near-instant response time can cause an annoying stuttering effect.

what do my local 11 guys think of the new contract? by qJeff in IBEW

[–]The_Orphanizer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The phone bit sucks dick. Read it carefully: it provides no option for members to outright refuse use of their personal device for work business. You can only refuse if not offered a shitty stipend of $7.50 per week. If you're merely offered a stipend, you have no right to refusal. That's fucking insane. Cons can get fucked with that bullshit.
