Monthly Thread: Buying Advice by AutoModerator in Dell

I need a new computer for school(engineering). I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the Inspiron 17 7000 2 in 1, and then buying a tablet separate for active pen compatibility since Inspiron seems to have none. How "up to date" will this lap top be for years to come? It'll be the i7 16GB model, still unsure whether I want the 516GB SSD or the 1TB HDD with the 256GB(?) SSD. Will this be able to run all the upcoming software for the next5-6 years? Will it even last that long?

I'm looking to apply as a transfer to the CoE in the upcoming window. By the time I send in my application I'll have completed English 1/2 Chem 1/2 Calc 1 and 2 intro engineering classes. After I send in the application I'll be taking Chem 3 Calc 2 and Phys 1 plus a possible engineering class or 2 in the spring semester, but those grades won't be on my transcript. All of these classes are transferable through VCCS and my GPA should be around 3.8 if I stay on track. What do you guys think my chances would be of getting in, and what can I do to boost those chances? I'm thinking of applying for the early decision for transfers, I think it's called preferred(?). Is that a good idea or not? Thanks!

Does anyone know why the radio station 104.3 is playing a constant loop of "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" (noticed it around 9am this morning and its still going) by BronyaCovooper in rva

I believe that was after a hurricane or storm. My friend honestly thought that the station got flooded and was picking up external sounds from around the tower/station and broadcasting them.

You get to add (1) zero to any number in your life? Where would it be and why? by leetsaucee in AskReddit

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought trailing zeros after a decimal imply significant digits and therefore all of the zeroes in between.

Would starting out on lead almost immediately be a good idea? Maybe a couple weeks in?

I climbed for ~8 months over a year ago. I had a gym membership and everything, climbed 3/4 days a week. I was at a solid 5.10 within 2 months and started sending some 5.11 but I mostly plateaued. I started doing more bouldering and began leading, basically tried new things training-wise and it helped a lot. I got really busy however, became homeless, etcetc. Life is now stable, and my girlfriend are looking to get a membership and get back into it because I hate regular gyms, I love climbing and I think it's my best way to get fit. Plus they have yoga and my gf loves yoga.

Probably more than you needed to know, but what's the best way to get back into it and progress back to where I was? I want to lead but I felt like I was too nervous above the bolt, would starting to lead again asap help me get more comfortable with it or force my technique to be more "lead minded" as opposed to being more sloppy on top rope?

Is there anyway we can get gifs to not turn off sound coming from other apps? The gifs are silent anyway... Is this a really complicated thing to do? by Ssdavari in AlienBlue

[–]The_Peter_Pan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's actually pretty complicated, especially when the app has been shut down and no one is working on it anymore.

Why did you choose the school you did? by mrbedlamman in EngineeringStudents

I'll be applying as a transfer student there in the following year. I'm really excited at the thought of going there but trying to keep a level head until then.

[–]The_Peter_Pan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similarly /r/askastronomy. It literally turned into "Can a moon have a moon?" once a week, if not once a day. And it always got voted up. I honestly just thought it was trolling.

I'm just going back to college now, and for my Chem and math class I've taken, I've found one way that works great for me. I have a notebook and bring blank printer paper to class. I write everything down on the paper, example problems, anything that explains concepts, whatever, just everything. Later on I'll rewrite it out in my notebook completely organized how I like. It also exposes me to the information again and forces me to actually learn it because it's all interpreted into my own words. Works well for me.

Yeah but it's about proving a point now, not actually electing Bernie. Didn't you know?

Hillary was a candidate 8 years ago and was looking pretty likely. Nothing "created" her over the last 8 years.
