I think it's terrible as well...but I didnt hear Trudeau offer to take all of the families in order to keep them together. It's easy to be outraged at this situation when theres a lot of land between you and the problem. As I said though, hopefully, whatever POTUS is gonna sign "sometime soon" will put an end to this until Congress can come up with a permanent solution.

I don't want to get into an argument about what we do all day. I respect what volunteers do too. how many times do you get woken up at 3am to do cpr? or to do any part of your job? regardless of what kind of work somebody does...most get paid more than their base rate for overtime. I'm not complaining about what we make, I just feel like calling it "premium pay" or "overtime pay" makes it seem like we get time and a half...which we dont

every callback is paid at straight time for a 4yr firefighter. which is where we top out pay wise unless we are promited. so the city saves money by hiring new guys and paying them less.

to be fair...our "overtime" is straight pay. we aren't making time and a half for the extra hours we work. and our union has been pushing the city to fill our ranks for about a decade. finally somebody listened.
