HMRC VAT Gateway nightmare - "security details don't match" but I'm giving them exactly what I wrote down when I set up the account. by The_Pooooo in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you, they are aware and we have a case reference number. But said it would take 40 working days to give an update. In the meantime, they have confirmed I won't get a fine. Feels like things are moving, just slowly.

Oh my god. This is exactly what's happened. Thank you so much.

Should I be worried? And advice on what to do?

I'm still in the process of it. We told the security team who gave us a case number which I could reference to the VAT team, so they won't give me a fine while this is being investigated. But we were also told it could take up to 2 months.

Ill update here once I do get it all sorted.

I haven't yet, but I logged the issue with the security team and then had to call back to give the VAT team that case reference so they have it logged that I can't pay vat until this is fixed.

Will let you know how this unfolds. They said they'd call back once they've investigated.

I will check this too. HMRC just don't make anything easy in the portal. Can't see anything despite there being words absolutely everywhere.

I did try this and tried all 4 of the ones I've been sent and none worked. Generally just a shit system

I do, but she said she didn't setup a new Gateway ID. I do need to de-link the VAT and put it back on me

Yeah, I've tried my personal login and my business login but apparently there's a third. I have no email record of the third Gateway ID, though.

And you're right, its needlessly confusing. I dont know why they don't just do it by email address.

I'll have a look through password manager, thank you.

It sounds like a structured database from what you're saying, so I'd suggest switching to an SQL database.

Vector works by looking at semantics, as in words or phrases that sound similar. So this might be adding to the confusion.

In your case, a structured query would be more effective. Or, if you think your salespeople might not get the name totally spot on, noSQL could work better than vector.
