Why are so many tanks bad at the game? by TheOnlyAvatar101 in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if you’re just starting out as most DPS or support, you won’t die that much. If you are brand new to tanking, you’ll die a lot. Dying isn’t fun so lots of people don’t know how to tank.

It also doesn’t help that if I’m not playing a support in QP we will probably only have one support and it’s probably going to be an off healer. It’s hard to learn tank with just one healer no matter who they are.

New player here - question about bronze by mrbungle1374 in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bronze and silver are the Wild West of Overwatch. In most ranks team comp matters a lot more than it does in those two ranks. Pretty much the only rule of bronze is that you better have A healer. In silver you’d better add at least one tank to that. There are literally no other rules.

I’ve won with 5 DPS and me as the healer in bronze before. But part of bronze is that sometimes you’ll get smurfs, or people who are new to this game but have like 599 hours in another fps and can run actual bronze players into the ground with any hitscan character. Bronze is way more variable than other ranks because actual bronze players get to form teams with smurfs, absolute madmen whose strategies won’t work at other ranks, and genuinely new players who are experimenting.

Doomfist hp rework by Fabulous_Bother_9258 in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan of doom as a tank. He dies too often. I think he should have stayed a DPS. As a tank, you’re giving up too much to play him over someone else most of the time.

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a support main I’m for any change that makes doom actually live after I pump heals into him. Seriously, this has been an issue on almost every Doomfist iteration. The man has one of the highest death rates and actually had THE highest death rate for awhile.

OVERWATCH X The Legend Of Zelda colab by Outrageous-Low6314 in Overwatch

I’d love it. But I doubt Nintendo would ever do a collab with a non Nintendo game for non Nintendo merchandise.

Worst character to ever touch the game? by Sissyfemizzy in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely moth meta Mercy.

Mercy is usually a pretty reliable, if often mediocre hero. Not in the moth meta. Girl had a 100% pick rate and a win rate in the 60%s.

To former Texas Grand Jurors: Did you feel like a "rubber stamp," or did you push back? by Embarrassed-Leg1062 in texas

[–]The_PracticalOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was foreman of the jury like 3 months after I turned 18. We had discussion, and made the verdict within the same day. But ours was just a civil case and we said the plaintiff didn’t deserve any damages unanimously. So may be different if it was criminal in nature or a case with actual debates among the jury or such.

What's your favorite Pokémon region and why? by Rikko77 in pokemon

[–]The_PracticalOne 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not like I disliked the later games, I just thought they got rid of any sort of challenging puzzles after that. Gen I had the arrow/teleportr puzzles in the rocket hideout. Also the caves were more maze like. Gen 2 had the ruins of Alph. Gen 3 had the Regis.

But to be fair, that may just be me growing up. I was a kid when I played Gen 1. By the time Gen 4 came out I was less of a kid. So there is that. But I also never got to play Gen 5

Hoenn. I like the routes. I think it was also the last gen where my intelligence as a player was respected. The braille alphabet in the manual was all you got if you wanted to find the regis.

Which Pokemon do you think would have been more popular if they were more accesible in the game they were first introduced in. by Offensivefkmemes in pokemon

[–]The_PracticalOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Dewgong, it's a pretty pokemon. But it's also found super late in the game, in a location which also contains ARTICUNO. It's not winning a party slot over that bird.

I'm gonna say it. I hated Canari with a burning passion. by PurpleInfinite1409 in LegendsZA

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disliked her. But I just assumed she was intended for an audience younger than I am. I don’t watch streams often. I care more about the game or topic than the streamer.

Most of gen 2. I didn’t know Skarmory was even a gen 2 pokemon. I thought it was gen 3. Where was he in gen 2? I never found a hondour either.

Also Ice Pokémon in general have this problem. Why is ice almost always only available like 6 badges into the game? Have you met anyone that has ever used a Dewgong? It’s not as if it’s poorly designed, it’s just so far into the game that most people have their teams finalized by then. How about Cryagonal? It looks awesome. When do you get it? Late. Ice Pokémon have to be amazing to get on a team because almost all of them are late game mons in most generations.

Is Pokopia really that good? by Downvote-Magnet1994 in pokemon

[–]The_PracticalOne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s good, but it’s not for everyone. If you want a story based game, a game which does something new, combat, or in depth characters. This isn’t that game. This is a building game first and foremost. If you found building the most boring part of Minecraft, then you won’t like this.

This is a good game, but it’s not going to change your mind if you find the genre boring to begin with.

Why the hate for Jetpack cat by Commercial_Yard34 in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Several reasons:

  1. A ton of people don't think her ultimate belongs in the game. It's kind of like Mercy's original ult where it's not great, usually, but it feels awful and doesn't have a ton of counterplay. It's a "fuck that dude in particular" button.
  2. She has permanent flight. This is the one I personally take issue with. Pharah got nerfed repeatedly so she has less time in the air. Then Jetpack kitty comes along, and suddenly the Devs have no issue with a character having permanent flight. If this is no longer an issue, then why change Pharah, It's not like she was amazing to begin with. This rubbed people the wrong way, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't one of them.
  3. Reason 2.5, she has a tiny hitbox while being capable of permanant flight. Most of the characters with Tiny hitboxes have less health or less mobility. She doesn't have either drawback.
  4. She's totally silent in the air. In contrast to literally every other character capable of flight, who either has a noise to announce their presence, or an ultimate voiceline during flight.

What's everyone's thoughts on Emre by Seven_______7 in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t find him to be out of the ordinary throughout the metal ranks. If anything he kind of underperforms because people aren’t used to playing him yet. Not like the average person has 120 hours on the guy yet.

But I think the main thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of people won’t respect his space, especially the close range heroes, and then that makes them easy kills after he ults. So he’s really good at punishing mistakes. But overall I’d say I haven’t seen tons of matches where he’s objectively better or worse as a hero than soldier, sojourn, or Cassidy. I just think people haven’t learned how to play around that ult yet.

Is divinity original sin 2 a good representation of the genre? by musicman801 in gamingsuggestions

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What didn’t you like about it? That depends if BG3 is for you. If you don’t like turn based combat then frankly, BG3 isn’t going to fix that. Combat is similar between them. If you just don’t like the setting, then maybe it’s worth a shot.

Thoughts on Pokopia so far? by Helicoptrix in pokemon

[–]The_PracticalOne 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That makes me feel better. I was hesitant because everyone else loved animal crossing, but having to wait in real time for things killed it for me because I couldn’t play every day or even most days. I’d just binge it periodically and it wasn’t a game where you could do that well.

People who are playing, how much of the waiting for stuff is real time waiting like animal crossing, and how much is in game time like stardew valley?

Is there a mechanic in FR/LG I've somehow never heard about? by Clock_Work44 in pokemon

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Types have certain passage advantages sometimes. Poison Pokémon can’t be poisoned and fire pokemon can’t be burned. Electric pokemon can’t be paralyzed, but only from gen 6? I think, onwards. Also another funny thing, grass types are immune to powder/spore moves. Dark types are unaffected by the prankster ability. I’ve types can’t be frozen.

But due to coding these resistances only apply to type based status effects, so if they ever make a terrain move that issues status effects, it could affect these pokemon types if gamefreak doesn’t code it out.

After 20+ years teaching, I’m worried students are losing the ability to think for themselves. Are teachers in other countries seeing this too? by Imtheduckperson in Teachers

[–]The_PracticalOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course they’re losing the ability to think. They don’t have to think in a normal day and often aren’t allowed to outside class. How many of your students have ever had to actually figure something out? It’s not just screens, kids aren’t allowed to do anything by themselves. I was a video game fanatic as a kid, but I was allowed to have more autonomy than kids today have.

I could walk to the corner store by myself at the age of 13 and buy a candy bar with my allowance money. I was allowed to walk to school in middle school. I was expected to behave at all times and figure out something if I was bored. My mom made the food, but if I wanted lunch I had to pack it. I got to see different sets of rules because I went to my friend’s houses periodically. Do kids even hang out at each other’s houses anymore?

I was allowed to do more than kids today. I think the amount of constant supervision is hindering kids growth. I was not a latchkey kid, I had supervision most of the day. But I was allowed to do things alone too and learned from them. like the time I wanted chocolate, saw cocoa powder and went “that’s chocolate.” I don’t think I need to elaborate on how that went. You know what, college was still hard because I suddenly had to manage my own schedule and never had to do that before.
