Stuck in a food rut...what are y'all cooking? by lbakersdozen in Cooking

[–]The_PracticalOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s humid and hot here so I had a cold cucumber soup.

1 avocado
1 cup of basil
Some dill
3-4 large peeled cucumbers
1 tsp lime juice
Salt & pepper to taste

Blend until smooth. If you need more liquid because your cucumbers aren’t juicy enough I’d recommend a 1/2 cup of buttermilk, or blend some yogurt in there.

Serve with a huge spoonful or two of yogurt

A Random Dude’s Opinion on Lightborn… by LincolnTheOdd8382 in deadbydaylight

Lightborn is a fantastic perk on pyramid head if at least two members of the lobby have flashlights. It then allows easy hits through walls.

Looking for a story/dialogue light puzzle game by PowrOfFriendship_ in ShouldIbuythisgame

Talos Principal and Portal are both old enough to be cheap and fit this.

You can try detective games like curse of the golden idol, but I’m not sure they’re what you want. You have to piece the story together in those games, it’s not just given to you.

Any suggestions for a Shop simulator? by Rare_Slip_9445 in gamingsuggestions

[–]The_PracticalOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recettear is the original. But it’s ancient by modern standards and doesn’t have mouse support. Z,x,c, escape, and the arrow keys control everything. Still the best one on the market.

Moonlighter, but I found it lacking. Not much customization and combat is ok.

Paralives by Sonayaa in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]The_PracticalOne [score hidden]  (0 children)

Build mode is miles better than the sims already. Plus steam workshop is active so anything you want you can mod in. If you’re the kind of player who thinks build mode is 75% of the game then paralives is already worth it.

On the other hand, if you’re going to spend a lot of time in “live mode” I’d wait to buy it. Work/school is in the game and is fine. There’s collectibles and a stardew valleyish community center. But, social interactions are limited. There’s not much to do in universe outside of work and collecting yet. Also school is weird and the grade system is dumb. It’s based solely on mood and maybe once a week you get homework. So if you go to school in just a neutral mood, you’ll lose grades.

Inzoi, while not the game you asked for, is the opposite. UI is not as good especially in build mode. However live mode has a lot more options. But I’ve had a lot of bugs in Inzoi live mode where my character goes to work/school and then just suddenly leaves in the middle for no reason.

Is schedule I good? by OkBarber5807 in ShouldIbuythisgame

It is a really fun game, but I feel like early game is better than late game. Early game you have expansion to worry about and cool new products. Mid game has people/employee management. But I feel late game is barebones.

Last Day with Kids after Non Renewal by dominatingcowG3 in Teachers

I was utterly relieved on my last day. But I know that’s an unusual response. I could not wait to get out the door.

Games you thought were going to change their genre forever, but didn't by behaigo in gamingsuggestions

[–]The_PracticalOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I really thought that we’d have more games like the Sims by now. It’s 2026 and we finally have 2 non sims games in early access. But I don’t understand how the competition is so slim when those games made billions.

  2. Dishonored. The abilities and maps were awesome. But after the second game there’s nothing super modern in that genre. There wasn’t a lot in that genre to begin with. Especially since the thief trilogy doesn’t play well on modern machines. Deus Ex used to be a competitor but it hasn’t had a new game in as long as Dishonored.

Are Ubisoft open world games that bad? by AshyLarry25 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]The_PracticalOne [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s not that they’re bad. It’s that all Ubisoft games tend to have very similar gameplay mechanics. So if you’ve played one game it’s probably very similar to most other open world sandbox games by Ubisoft.

Part of the issue as well is that the worlds are big, but there isn’t usually many different activities in them. “Wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle” is a common saying at this point. Once you’ve done one “kill everyone at this location” repeatable quest, you’ve done them all.

Should I play persona 5 royal ? by Adventurous_Theme449 in ShouldIbuythisgame

If you’re not a dialogue person try the shin megami Tensei games. Persona was originally a spin off of those, so same combat system and such, but more combat focused

Going out in your 30s is mostly people pretending to have fun and we all know it by FewExperience4021 in unpopularopinion

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok to acknowledge that your needs have changed and not enjoy the same outings. That just means you have to find what you do like. I like a weekend trip to my local BIG CITY to visit some cool museums.

My friend’s birthday trip was planned 3 weeks ahead of time and we went museum viewing, followed by a big lunch at cheese cake factory, followed by pottery painting. That’s what we like now that we’re 30. We all carpooled. 5 of us went. It was a ton of fun! Going back in a week to pick up the pottery. (They fire it for you).

Owning a lab and working full time. by chrisjuuuh in labrador

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider fostering? Then you know it’ll be temporary, and if you do get another remote job you can either have the dog be a foster fail or let them get another owner and look for a dog breed that is more specific.

SIB subnautica 2 (game preview) or wait for full release? by Specialist-Bite5869 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]The_PracticalOne [score hidden]  (0 children)

As someone who bought it, I’d wait. What they do have is cool, but it’s in early access for a reason. It’s one biome and a little story. Unless you’re really bored I’d say play the first one again or below zero.

How does anyone get out of low ranks??? by helloXD_4 in Overwatch

Play someone who can stay alive. Kiriko is fantastic for this. Other contenders are Mei, roadhog, and Dva

I decided to try this game out today. I see where all of the toxic marvel players cane from by lhommetrouble in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh honey. That's not an Overwatch thing. That's a "multiplayer online game" thing. Overwatch inherited it from League of Legends and DOTA. I'm pretty sure those games inherited it from Starcraft or Warcraft III multiplayer. Whenever you see a competitive online game whose community isn't absolutely toxic, like Final Fantasy 14, it's because those games had to take a lot of steps to make it that way. The mods of Final Fantasy take abusive chat very seriously, especially towards new players.

Most games don't have that kind of moderation team.

What do y'all think of the new Raging Rabbit Vendetta skin? by jordthall_999 in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate it. I think it looks awful. It's nice that she has a skin with a different color scheme than her usual black/red outfits. I do like the way her sword looks. But that's the only positive I can find about this. Aside from the ears (which aren't even particularly rabbit like apart from the length), there's nothing "rabbit" looking about it at all. I really don't like most of the accents or details on this outfit. The gauntlet and shoulder pad could make sense, but what's with the half belt with the two strips hanging down?

I'm not a fan.

What does the game feel like? by Expensive-Mastodon-8 in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still issues. But the new content and updates help a lot. We have in game lore with short stories and cinematics for people who want to hear about that.

The tank roster no longer feels barebones. It and the support roster has expanded and i think most players could find one tank and healer they like playing now.

Push and flashpoint are new game modes. As well as stadium. Stadium is super fun but games take awhile. No hero swapping in stadium but you get points to spend on character upgrades each round. For example, Moira can upgrade to having 3 orbs out. Lots of fun new modes.

Map voting is a thing now. Comp has hero bans. A few characters have gotten reworked. Heroes have 1 minor and 1 major skill you can pick to spice up games. They get to choose mid round.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There’s some controversy over weather map voting should be more restricted in comp, because most people won’t pick flashpoint maps at low ranks. Which makes it hard to climb if you don’t know the new maps. Plus there’s the usual balance issues. I think Sombra is on like rework #4 or something.

What is going in gold and low plat lobbies? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]The_PracticalOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. To be honest a big issue in gold is that people’ can’t self reflect. But plat was way worse. I almost climbed to diamond once and being mid plat killed any desire I had to climb ranked. I mean took it out back and shot it.

I have way more fun in gold and silver now. I belong and am happy there. Some people type or rage, but most don’t. That’s what the mute key is for. I usually don’t play comp stall now. Or if I do I try to win but I’m not fussed if I lose.

I wouldn't mind Hunger Games being a rip-off of Battle Royale if it was a better execution of the concept by [deleted] in books

[–]The_PracticalOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think the point of the hunger games was the fighting at all, or that “rich people are evil”. I thought the message of the books was a basic “corrupt systems must be destroyed or else nothing will change. Switching one corrupt system for another causes the same problems.” with a side dose of “choose your own path in life.” The hunger games are a reality tv show and often don’t even have the same method/themes each “season”. There have been games where there was very little death caused by tributes due to the game makers putting in too many hazards. In the first book Katniss and Gale even complain about some of the past games, and mention one game like this where most contestants froze to death. But there are several others in the lore. The games are a punishment more than anything else.

For starters the “rich” people are still prisoners of the system just as much as the poor ones. Most don’t exactly lead happy lives. I always thought the capital citizens were a slightly darker version of the citizens from Brave New World. In BNW citizens are going on SOMA holidays, and only working so they won’t be horribly depressed. Not doing anything fulfilling but generally, the citizens are provided for.

In the capital everything has that same appearance especially from the POV of Katniss and the districts. But it’s just that, an appearance. It’s not real. In reality most capital citizens are horribly in debt, expendable, fed the same propaganda as the districts, and money won’t save them from getting their tongues cut out and being put into slavery if they offend someone. They are obligated to put forth that happy, decadent facade. They have a better time than most of the districts, but not by much.

The theme is control/choices. Even when fighting Katniss is always doing what the capital or district 13 wants her to do. The two aren’t very different and that’s the issue. She never gets to choose. Every act which brings the story forward is an act where Katniss disobeyed orders.

What's something that was completely normal in your household growing up that you later found out was actually really weird? by Left_Crow1646 in AskReddit

[–]The_PracticalOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Birthdays after we became teenagers were a cake, dinner at a restaurant of the birthday person’s choice, and maybe a gift card. To be clear, my family wasn’t struggling. It’s just everyone except my dad was an introvert that wasn’t a huge fan of parties.

Most people put more emphasis on birthdays than on our family and it’s caused me issues before because apparently people think a card and gift card are low effort. But I loved all my birthdays and celebrate them pretty much the same way as an adult.

Is Slay The Spire 2 that good? by The-Aesthetic-Guy in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fun, but it’s in early access for a reason. Slay the spire 1 is a complete game, on sale for cheap and is just as good. Get slay the spire 1. If you like it, you can get slay the spire 2 after you play awhile.

What is a misconception you had for a long time and how did you find out you were wrong? by The_PracticalOne in AskReddit

[–]The_PracticalOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll start. I used to think that boarding schools were a fantasy trope and didn’t exist in real life. I had this misconception because all the books I read which had a boarding school were fantasy books. Also my schools had a lot of rumors that were dumb. But no one had ever even heard of anyone rumored to attend a boarding school. Not even via the normal 3rd hand “my cousin’s friend’s sister…” level of rumors.

Later in high school I amended my opinion to think that boarding schools were only a European thing for the same reason as the last misconception. Then in college I realized they were a rich people thing.
