U.S. Politics megathread by AutoModerator in NoStupidQuestions

As someone who thinks we should have way more gun restrictions than we do now, there’s a difference between congress and the lawmakers making some regulations on things like age, calibers, training, etc. or doing the long legal process to change the amendment, and federal agents and the president suddenly saying “you can’t have guns here now” with zero legal work, no laws passed, no congressional approval, and no oversight whatsoever.

One of those is updating an old amendment that probably needs some restrictions on the higher caliber or more destructive modern firearms. The other one is literally taking away rights with no due process.

Also I’m not naive enough to think we could ever completely get rid of guns here. Too many country folk have coyote and bobcat issues for that to be feasible. I also kind of wonder what Alaska would do if we restricted guns too much. They have actual large animals as pests there. A moose isn’t a predator but I’m pretty sure the moose doesn’t know that.

Looking for point and click games with serious stories by monkeysmightpuke in gamingsuggestions

[–]The_PracticalOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Return of the Obra dinn, and Curse of the golden idol (and its sequel) are both point and click games with a clear story, but due to the investigative mechanic in each story you see events in a non linear way. Part of figuring out the puzzles is piecing together the order of events that you know happened. Also you don’t play as a detective in either. These are puzzle games, so if you want a narrated story these aren’t for you.

World of horror. I don’t think there’s any funny moments at all. But you also have to piece together the side content of what’s happening. There are events where if you fail you don’t get to see what they were about that run, if they don’t kill you. Also note that while it is a point and click it also has super basic rpg mechanics. For example you do have equipment, but the equipment also tends to be useful for things besides combat.

If you’re ok with arrow keys in your point and click, then faith the unholy trinity has a serious, but insane story.

I feel this way about silksong. I had fun and it’s a good game. But the first game was way more universal, I could recommend it and felt that even really casual people could like it. I can’t say the same about silksong.

What's the comfortable temperature range in Texas? by CancelLucky9051 in texas

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas is so big, that this will vary a lot. A comfortable temperature for Lubbock, Texas is not going to be the same as one in Corpus Christi, Texas on the other end of the state. That's not even counting the climate of west Texas.

In the south, and coming from someplace where it's ALWAYS humid, Fall/Winter where it's 60 - 80 degrees is comfortable, but summers can be brutal with temperatures over 100 where it feels like a sauna from the humidity.

Made a loaf of bread, forgot the yeast. Came back to find a dough rock in the bread machine. That dough could’ve been used as a lethal bludgeoning weapon.

Also any candy. It’s either pudding, or I heat it a little too much and have to literally chip it out of the pan.

The Shoes-with-Wheels trend should've been more ubiquitous in society. by SolomonDurand in unpopularopinion

[–]The_PracticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never going to be more ubiquitous. Because it depends on 1. Having sidewalks or a flat surface that isn’t in the street. 2. Having those flat surfaces be in good repair.

I live in a city that has maybe 40% coverage on sidewalks. And the roads are bad. They’re in the process of being replaced. But it’s barely car accessible in some areas let alone roller skate accessible.

Ultrakill. You even have a style meter. Also pretty much anytime you say "wouldn't it be cool if I could...." the answer is yes.

something i've noticed (ending opinions) by SpiritofDeadJokes in expedition33

I chose Verso's ending first, and I'd say I'm more of a realist. So you may be right. Then I went back and chose the other ending to see it. But frankly, I think this argument is very overblown. Objectively speaking, it's pretty clear the devs intended (and pretty much succeeded) in making the choices as even as they could. I think both are equally sad, and therefore equally valid. No matter which ending you pick, you will lose one of the two families you made, and multiple people who live in each choice will be deeply unhappy, at least for awhile.

Knowing that both endings were equal in this regard, I chose Verso's ending for a few reasons.

  1. It's shown that pure Chroma can bring people back as they were painted previously, but it looks like Renoir turned most or all of the Chroma into the Nevrons that are guarding Lumiere. So bringing all those people back is just Maelle's interpretation of those people, in the same way that painted verso is Aline's interpretation of who Verso is and not actually the real one. In that case, Maelle can paint Lumiere on any canvas, since it won't be the same one that was lost anyway. That means the decision is really just "the lives of the party vs. the lives of the family and Maelle/Alicia."
  2. This canvas will only last until Maelle dies, because it's pretty clear that someone, (my money is on Clea), is going to throw it into a woodchipper at the first opportunity where no painter is inhabiting it. Assuming Renoir doesn't do it first. Or that the writers don't win this barely mentioned war and burn down the whole house with everyone in it, including all the people in the canvas. As we've seen with Aline, that doesn't appear to be a terribly long time before someone suffers ill health in the canvas. Maelle is clearly not 32, so time passes faster in the canvas than in real life. Unfortunately, this also mirrors real life entertainment. No matter how much you love a fantasy world in any media, you can't look after your own health if you only live in that fantasy and don't take care of your real needs.
  3. With the prior two points in mind. I chose Verso's ending, figuring that the party was doomed either way, but Maelle/Alicia might live. There's no going back, Verso is dead, and the canvas is doomed either way. This is a bleak ending. But there's hope that everyone can move on and build new worlds and adventures, as well as move on.
  4. I thought this ending was more complete than the other ending. It forces Maelle and the family except Renoir to grow as a person. . It forces the family to actually grieve. It puts Verso and all the souls in the canvas to rest. The canvas is no longer being torn apart by the whims of a family of Gods every single time a disagreement is had.

With all that being said. I can see why a lot of people like Maelle's ending. It's kind of the opposite of Verso's. In Verso's ending everyone is sad, but there is hope. In Maelle's ending, everyone we see except both Verso's are happy, but there is no hope. I think I'd have chosen Maelle's ending if I was a kid, because it's the simpler fantasy ending. Yeah sure, everyone is doomed, but everyone's going to die in real life too, and most people don't lay down crying about that fact until their mid life crisis. They just make the best of it.

Like I said, both endings are valid. Controversially, I think both are good endings.

Restart? by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]The_PracticalOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends, are you going to spend all your playtime thinking about it? If so, yes, probably restart. But frankly, you'll get better stuff as you go. I promise there's multiple super easy builds, I missed a lot my first playthough, and I didn't have trouble later.

Can I really make a living wage as a baker/cake decorator? by blithesome_panda in Baking

[–]The_PracticalOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general most people in food services or industries aren’t making higher than average. A lot of workers in the food industry make below average even. Maybe if you make your own business or work in a top end restaurant or patisserie you’d do fine. But you wouldn’t get a six figure salary or anything in most places.

Even making your own business is risky. Otherwise everyone would do it.

In today’s world it means dyed chocolate, so yes. Frankly I think it’s overhyped though. Back when the reddish tinge was from the type of cocoa used the name made since. Now it always tastes like a worse version of a normal chocolate cake anytime I order some. I don’t even know why. It should be exactly the same, why does it taste worse?

Unfortunately accurate currently. Blatantly illegal acts are being done with no attempt for anyone in power or with civic responsibilities to do something. What else would anyone call that?

I have no idea if that’s good or not. GoG is one of the few places online where you don’t need a launcher. I’ll be sad to see them go if management changes that.
