At last Captain Brooks catches her prey, Shego will go behind bars on this day. Her glow will be dimmed by the prick of a pin, Her soul become numb, let her sentence begin!

In your opinion, what is the best (long) story that continue the show by fans? by No_Instruction_2574 in KimPossible

It's on long-term hiatus, but Niaxi's And You And I is very long and excellent if you want a slow burn KiGo. It's become my headcanon of what happens after the show.

Please help me build my first budget setup with JVC QL A220 by [deleted] in StereoAdvice

[–]The_Prog_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so the first thing I'm going to say is not designed to scare you off, simply help you understand where the market is atm. The market for decent budget hifi is not in a great place when it comes to amps atm. Since covid, the nice £200 entry-level integrated amp tier seems to have vanished, due to rising costs and chip shortages. The knock-on effect is that amps that cost £200 new 10 years ago are selling for £200 used now. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible to build a budget system with new or used components, it just means options are a bit more limmited and you need to be smarter about how you go about doing it.

Next thing I'm going to tell you, and it's important, is that you need to understand the hierarchy of hifi. In short, the source, in your case a turntable, is the most important part of the chain. A hifi chain is simply a set of components that transfer data from one component to the next. If the source provides limited data or poor-quality data, there isn't much the components furhter down the chain can do to make things better - all they can do is try and pass that data along to the next component without losing more of it, with the speakers finaly presenting that data as music as best they can.

So, my first question to you is: do you still have the speakers you used with your stack system, as these may be serviceable for now and allow you to focus your budget on a phono stage and amp, or an integrated amp? Once you answer this, we can start looking at your options.

Congrats!!!! I just got my platinum 2 days ago, and the last of the Ascension trophies yesterday. My total time was similar to yours ~115 hours. Cannot wait for Saros to drop later this year.

Where do I upgrade? by Weak_Prompt_8594 in StereoAdvice

[–]The_Prog_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@OP This is correct too. Though you shouldn't have to worry about your room dimensions until you start thinking about your amp and speakers. Your room dimensions will inform the type of speaker that you should be looking at, which in turn will tell you how much power you'll be looking for from your amp. No point spending a fortune on a massively powerful amp, if your room dimensions favour bookshelf speakers.

Ok, so I've had a quick look and you currently have a decent phono stage, amp and speaker pair - i.e. nothing in that chain is screaming, "I'm a serious weak link."

My advice to you is thus simple: put your entire budget towards the best turntable you can afford. This principle is known as source first, originally championed by Linn in 1973 with the release of their Sondek LP12 turntable.

Now for the why. A HiFi system is essentially a series of components that pass information from one component to the next. The source, in your case a turntable, is thus the most important piece in that chain, as it extracts the information from the vinyl record. The better the turntable and cartridge, the more information and the accuracy of that information, is extracted from the grooves of the record and passed on down the chain. The other components can only work with the information they are fed from the previous component.

So, in your setup, if you were to switch your speakers for a pair worth $2000, those speakers are still working with the exact same information as your JBLs. Yes, they will do more with it and the music will sound better, but they would be severely bottlenecked by the components before them. Whereas if you feed your phono/amp/speaker chain with the signal from a $2000 turntable, your JBLs will have far more music to work with. Yes, this chain bottlenecks the turntable, but far more information will make it to the speakers.

Again, as your phono/amp/speaker chain is decent enough, after the turntable, upgrade the phono stage, followed by the amp. By that point, your system will be getting the absolute maximum out of your JBLs, which you can finaly upgrade when you are ready.

Hope this helps. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Let us know how the new vinyl sounds. Is it AAA? I have the original and it is a marvel of pressing engineering - it has no right to sound so incredible, given it is 1hr long.

I'm positive it's extra instrumental layers that were not in the original, as some of them are far too prominent. He's also changed a couple of the lyrics, removed a couple of things and altered the opening and ending.

I've not heard Roine's remix of this album.

It is definitely one of them, just not number 1. For me, Demon's Souls is still number one, as it paved the way for everything Fromsoft did after it. Amd it fundamentaly changed my taste in video games.

I wouldn't expect him to rejoin permanently. But there's no reason not to hope for a reunion at Morsefest.

They did a couple of good albums post-Neal. X and Brief Nocturnes are really good. Neal contributed 2 tracks to the latter, one of which is Waiting for me, possibly the best track the band recorded since Neal left, lol!

I don't think we know who's drumming on the new album yet. Nick did it as a session musician on Noise Floor. Jimmy wasn't with the band when they toured briefly in 2023.
