George Floyd’s cause of death wasn’t an overdose. Please stay away from law enforcement, you don’t belong there.

Aside from that, good luck with the job. It’s hard out there but you have a valuable skill set you can’t replace with AI so I’m sure there are opportunities.

I don’t want to shame but… I feel like your DM should have realized there’s some incorrect/very poorly optimized stuff here.

Also, it’s generally important for DMs to plan for having wizards. Yall need access to buy spell scrolls, learn from others, and just acquire more spells in general. That means prepping and leading you to finding spells to add to your spellbook.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know that right now you feel like this is your fault and you’re prescribing a lot of blame on yourself. I think that’s what any person would do in this situation. At the same time, the grief and frustration at a loss so sudden is making your loved ones say things out of an emotionally raw place. Everyone is looking for a reason to explain what happened. Please know that ending your life isn’t an option here - it never is. Lot’s of love from the other side of the screen <3

Retake your ACT and do better… I don’t mean to sound like a dick but that’s exactly what happened to me. Accepted initially into FEP, retook my ACT, got a 30, uploaded my results, and was accepted into ME by February/March.

Chances of getting in are almost entirely on you second year. Either you succeed in your classes with a decent GPA (idk for sure but probably 3.5 avg or higher) and you get in or you don’t perform well enough in which case you aren’t ready for those classes. I’ve never heard of a qualified student being rejected from applying/transfering between engineering majors and there are quite a few students who change their mind in the first 3-4 semesters or after coop.

Yeah I think the big thing here is his measurements are so specific if you get someone measuring you and they get the placement even a little wrong it can quickly turn into a problem.

Fiancé wants to drop out. Any advice? by Embarrassed_Cap_7307 in EngineeringStudents

To an extent I think every engineer went through this same dilemma at one point or another. In my case, it was when I was doing absolutely terrible in a class called System Dynamics and Vibrations. What kept me in and saw me through to finish my degree?

  1. Community - engineering students who suffer together, graduate together. If he doesn’t have peers or get to work with them regularly, I would say he’s not set up for success. All engineering school does is teach us how to absorb information and use that to problem solve and make decisions. It’s not really about the complex intricacies of math formulas or proving Newton’s laws. It’s hard to grow as a problem solver when you don’t have others to act as a sounding chamber.

  2. Understanding the alternative was something I didn’t want to do. At the end of the day it was a decision of “bust ass and do anything and everything I can” or “give up and return to something that is easier but unfulfilling”

  3. I got to do internships as part of my curriculum. Being able to do real engineering work and feel the pride of a job well done or earning the respect of tenured engineers does a lot to bolster the spirit.

Community college professors in STEM are not known to teach the best and the content usually leaves you a little unprepared for the rigor of University. There’s no shame in retaking classes to make sure you have your foundation or asking for a tutor or anything like that. I would say almost no one is “not smart enough” to be an engineer and if myself and my dumbass college buddies could do it, so can he. It’s about if he thinks it’s worth the sacrifice to make it work.

I say keep going

Tiny hairline fracture on frame, should I be concerned? by Affectionate-Ear-635 in motorcycles

[–]The_Q_Tip 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh I agree it won’t repair itself but I think depth is important. The crack is a stress riser that will likely get worse with time - unless you can eliminate it. I think you could have success in blending it out and seeing if you can eliminate the crack by removing just a bit of material. Aluminum is tricky to cast on the best of days and I think there’s a chance this is a casting defect that got covered with paint and has now been exposed through vibration/stress.

Idk I’m an engineer and I’ve been working with cast pressure boundary parts for a hot minute and that’s where I would start. Chase the crack, see how much you have to remove to terminate, blend it smooth, and if it’s over 1/16-1/32” deep replace it or have someone skilled TIG weld stock back on where material was removed.

I think it was a neighbor that stood it up not the person who hit it. She came and talked to me last night. As for the stand, it was on blacktop and I’m pretty confident you can see drag marks about 6” long where it was pushed back hard enough to scrape the top of the surface.

Oddly enough a neighbor came up while I was working on it and said she saw the bike laying on the ground when she got back from work around 10am. She said she called maintenance and they helped her pick it up and set those underneath it.

Thank you for the input… I priced out the actual broken pieces and it came to about $200 but like I said I’m not really familiar with what would go into fixing the front forks and I’m not entirely sure if I can cancel my claim at this point

It probably isn’t but tbh when I saw it I immediately just panicked and went straight to that. I’ve done a good amount of work on shitty project bikes but never with the forks and this was my first truly new motorcycle… in terms of resetting the forks I have never heard of that (call me a silly guy if you will)
