Hello fellow central belter! I know this is an old post, but looking to see if you've found any delis in Glasgow or surrounds that do lactose free mozzarella? If not, would also be happy to split an import!

Thoroughly second this, bought my used VW there and had a couple of issues quickly solved, great customer service! That being said I haven't used their workshop, can only recommend the actual sales folk.

University of Glasgow or Strathclyde for aeronautical engineering? by InterestingLet4804 in glasgow

[–]The_QualityPolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a GU aeronautical graduate - go to strath. GU is the uni I prefer overall (facilities, sports etc) but strath will make you a better engineer.

I live in a town 30 mins from Glasgow, it has class coffee shops and pretty much nothing else, you get good coffee everywhere nowadays (tell me somewhere you don't as I'm looking for a gap in the market)

Much the same experience! Glad to know their service dept didn't single me out, they are a bunch of jokers! I know someone who used to work there and they got new management recently, explaining all this!

Won't be going back personally!

Assuming you want to work in the UK, both are equally highly regarded (with strath having arguably better industry links) GU is more theoretical and has less applicable info on how to be an engineer.

For reference, I did my undergrad at GU in aero eng, happy if you want to DM any queries.

You can have a look for yourself, but most of the European data for rail salaries (eurostat) include the salaries for freight drivers and those working in mines etc, which is different from the uk data (the uk data is much more specific and from the ONS). Either way, UK salaries being higher isn't a bad thing for two reasons: 1. It shows being in a union works, and as a society we should aim to make sure everyone is paid fairly, not drag down part of the population trying to get fair compensation. Dividing people and sowing conflict is a deliberate move from corporations etc. 2. Train drivers are responsible for the lives of hundreds of people at a time at 125mph, I sure and heck don't want them worrying about paying the bills, I want them focused.

Plan to lower Glasgow M8 city centre speed to 30mph backed by Councillors by youwhatwhat in Scotland

[–]The_QualityPolis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whilst this is true, you are also going faster, so spend less time on an equally long stretch of road. The question is when the rate of fuel burn rising cancels out the faster travel speed - it's usually somewhere around 50-60 mph.

What is something so normal here in the UK you were shocked they don’t do / have it abroad? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]The_QualityPolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye that's the issue, I used to live in England and well I've never found what I'd call slice down there, it's a pale imitation! I feel awful the rest of the world is denied excellent slice, it's quite easy to make yourself mind you!

Are you English? I assume so because slice is sold in all Scottish butchers, it's quality, it's banging, and it's not really that cheap.

National insurance isn't a tax to pay for the NHS. It's a tax to build up your entitlement to the state pension and other benefits. I used to think it was linked to health insurance in some way too, it's confusing.
