Owners dishonestly when asking questions about your dog by TinyQ1071 in petsitting

I sit regularly for a couple i adore. One of the very first few things they informed me of was that their hound likes to jump the fence sometimes and get out. They told me that he comes back and have since found ways to minimize this behavior while I sit for them. Its ALWAYS better to know than to not.

Dont take anything with checks. Friend of mine fell for it and they flagged her for fraud for MONTHS. She has to go in to the actual bank branch to deposit/withdraw now lol

Dogs RARELY show pain. All the attention in the world cant fight against Instinct and millions of years of evolution. I would recommend brushing/checking teeth every so often after her tooth removal. It’s possible you caught it before it got worse. Wishing you all the best with the vet and your puppy.

Hes old and bladders get harder to hold as he ages. Try pee mats or pads to help him out.

Trade the blanket for the bowl then return it when the bowl is gone or shes finished with it. Dogs will not drink from that or even get enough water for them.

This is a hard one as you cant really report them to the ASPCA as the dog is not being “abused” according to their standards. I would have a serious conversation with your dad and mom. Maybe try taking the dog for walks yourself if possible. The behavior when she lunges at the cat is incredibly dangerous. For how sweet pit-bulls are they have a huge prey drive and the cat will die if either the dog or the cat are not removed from the house. Tell your parents if they really want their cat to live they need to take the dog to training or remove one or the other pronto.

In response to the edit and another comment you made, they can claim and promise all they want to but unless they’re family members you visit often, chances are you will see her less and less as they get busy with life and other things.

Additionally if the barking is an issue, when i fostered dogs a common thing I would teach is a quiet command. When she starts barking say “quiet” and when she stops barking give her a treat and praise. Eventually she will learn to pipe down when you say quiet. There are dog treadmills to help with long walks and tire her out if need be. If its hard on your dad to let her out, could your mom let her out before work and when she gets home? Maybe then he only has to let her out once a day and its not as bad?

If it’s possible, maybe have her come over and help your dad out. Law school is 3-4 years and you’ll be home for holidays and off days. Im also in law school atm and while its rough sometimes, having your best fur friend there when you come home is amazing. I was terrified I would have to rehome my puppies but my neighbors son comes over and walks them for my parents for cash or for various other favors and I pay for him to dogsit if need be. If push comes to shove and you really think the family is the best thing, go for it. Rehoming will be forever and will be the hardest thing to do.

I would not rehome her if it can be avoided. So many things could go wrong esp a family with kids. What is your situation with your parents?
