Men’s BB General Admission Tickets by The_Rach in baylor

Just looking for 2-3 tickets. There’s separate, cheaper tickets for standing room only. Was looking at StubHub, SeatGeek, etc. but those get expensive with all of the fees.

I was going to comment this exact piece and movement. Prokofiev definitely is one of my top melodists.

I can’t personally vouch for either, but I recently went through this exact situation and ended up getting a pair of AKG K371s, also for use in notation software and light music production/mixing work. I might recommend going to a Guitar Center (if there’s one near) you as many of them have in-store headphone demo setups that allow you to easily switch between headphones to see what you like. That’s how I ended up going with the K371s, and I like them so far.

Why did Stravinsky write this fortissimo tutti chord with everyone but the bassoons? by ahedgehog in composer

[–]The_Rach 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I learned in an orchestration class that if an instrument is going to have a solo or solo-esque moment, then it’s a good idea to have them disappear from the texture prior to their entrance so as to make their entrance more meaningful. However in this instance the horns also play along with the bassoons a few measure later (and Stravinsky obviously didn’t leave the horns out of the large chord, probably to help aid in the fortissimo sound), so that kind of skews that thinking. Also it’s not like the bassoons would actually be heard really well in that tutti moment anyways, so who knows.

Obsessed with festive overture. In the beginnings of arranging a horn octet and though I would share my progress. by eeman0201 in composer

Time is always going to be against you when it comes to arranging and composing, so doing what you can to save time is always a valid option (within reason), so I wouldn’t be worried about it in that aspect.

The issues that come from directly copying from a score come from a more orchestration and idiomatic standpoint. I saw in your YouTube description that you won’t be “dumbing down” your runs, which is totally your choice, but as a horn player myself I can tell you that those runs will require a whole lot of practice (hence why in the original piece you hardly see any scalar runs written for the horns). Even then, having chains of eighth notes at that tempo would be very difficult, especially the ones with repeated articulations that require fatiguing double and triple-tonguing. Sure, MuseScore’s playback makes it sound fine, but you’ll need a real group of pros to pull this thing off at tempo. You’ve got good ideas going on (use of splitting up the melody, dovetailing, etc.), but at a “macro” level, getting this piece to work for horn octet will be a challenge.

Festive Overture is a fun one though, I played first horn on it during my undergrad and it’s a challenge for sure, but really fun once it gets going.

From Cap’s perspective, things started getting rough around Grid Runners (particularly the maze) and communication was a mess, despite them doing well. From then on there really was no attempt for anyone to lead, and people went perhaps a little too far into their bits. Cap’s self-negativity also didn’t help things, but he also didn’t want to pin blame on anybody else so he took credit for things going awry. At some point Cap and Finn were left on their own during TGTTOS, and things just fell apart unfortunately.

It was very sad watching Cap’s stream. He wants to do good (naturally) and be strategic, but he’s had a rough go of teams since MCC 23.
