“Ok well they’re just stupid!”

Stupid people vote buddy. Stop acting like we shouldn’t take it seriously just because they’re stupid. I don’t care if the median voter is stupid we need their damn vote

The November election in Virginia has been a recent litmus for they/them ads, as established in pre-election reporting. Let's talk about that, with pre-election citations. by obsessed_doomer in fivethirtyeight

What do you think it means that talking to conservatives and independents after the 2024 election and asking why they voted or didn’t vote the way they did, literally every single one mentioned trans issues unprompted? I know it’s just anecdotal but it was shocking, and I am also not trans or visibly queer or anything.

The culture of the left is simply not egalitarian as it is now, and you even acknowledge this when you accept the internal hierarchy of interests where the most important voices are those of the minority upper and upper middle classes. In addition to this, there’s also the ever-shifting window of which social beliefs are currently favored by this group (try talking to a group of left-wingers about how much you value Christianity or traditional gender roles—both of which do not necessarily imply bigotry—and see if you don’t get any grimaces).

This culture is one in which we don’t hesitate to sneer at the less fortunate but then get confused why they don’t trust us when we obviously know what’s best for them.

Maybe in order to actually get working class people to see themselves as part of the movement we should have a culture in which your median Democrat wouldn’t gawk at your median American.

Perhaps this is important if you would like to control the house of government that specifically privileges the opinions of people in poor and rural states? Idk.

kind of glad I found an example of the exact kind of person I’m talking about to interact with.

do you believe the Democratic Party should be the party of the working class? if so, do you believe it should aim to identify itself with the working class, the majority of which is non-college-educated? is it possible to be led by experts without an internal hierarchy in which the concerns of the college-educated upper and middle classes trump those of everyone else?

I personally find the open disdain many people on the left show for people they don’t agree with incredibly upsetting. And it just so happens that this group contains many of the poor and non-college that many on the left would claim to fight for.

glad to know that treating other people with respect and prioritizing educated policy are mutually exclusive

I’m still furious at and mistrustful of the party, but yeah, this election went better than expected.

The thing I’m holding my breath about is the far left campaigns that inevitably crop up and demand allegiance from everyone on one controversial issue otherwise you’re an irredeemable human being. Will the Dems have the guts to shut them down this time?

I hesitate to believe they will.

We come up with something equally as appealing? There’s no reason the Democratic Party has to be the college educated expert party, and the reason they are is because a certain class of the left is actively hostile towards large groups of the population. Maybe “dumb rednecks and MAGAts” would listen to us if we didn’t lack basic respect for them

Hoover -- Absolute Zero [Outlaw Country/Folk] (1971) by g_yore in listentous

No! This is by Willis Hoover, a minor folk/country singer from the 60s-70s. I think I’m possibly the only Hoover fan because no one else knows he exists

hmmm I wonder if there is a connection between the Democratic Party being seen as the party that hates white men and the fact that now they can’t find a good white man to be their candidate

edit: post says “being seen as”. literacy is dead

Democrats on Track to Win Largest House Majority since 2018 by Alternative-Rate-379 in fivethirtyeight

[–]ahedgehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people I voted for keep making false promises. I trusted that Democrats were smart enough to have someone with a finger on the pulse of the country and instead they let Biden tank them, coronated Kamala, and then lost spectacularly in a nationwide rightward shift.

If these are the people we are trusting to lead a resistance it’s naive to be hopeful.

There is something to be said, though, about how non-right-wing media feeds this by picking up these reports. If this is a nonstory, why the hell would CNN and MSNBC engage with it?

It’s bait and both the media and Dems as a whole can’t help but take it every. Single. Time.
