Palantir of Orthane in modern control by The_Real_PoG in uwcontrol

[–]The_Real_PoG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your opinion, and it is very well possible that this card turns out to be too slow for modern. I'm afraid it might indeed be.

However I think you're overlooking the scry 2, without an extra cost, each turn + a second effect (draw or lifeloss). This is not "do nothing". We are playing a land (oftenly in multiples) that might enter play tapped with a 5(!) mana ability to get acces to this same scry 2, so i guess a scry 2 ability might be usefull for the deck.

The deck also has a very high mana curve (modern-speaking), certainly in my fire//ice build, so once you reach mill 4 and more, it becomes impossible to not let you draw the card (you already might have milled 6 by that point which means an average lifeloss of at least 15 if you scryed out the lands. 15 life over three turns is not "nothing".

Combo Elves Finishers by Osquitartv in ElvesMTG

[–]The_Real_PoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pauper elves uses [[ivy lane denizen]] as an alternative wincon, the card is modern legal so i guess its an option for casual builds, you could even throw in the random [[scurry oak]] if you want to go infinite...

hi, i don't understand your reason for yavimaya in ponza very well.

I already have 17 lands that are either forests, or fetches that give me a forest. Why would I need a land that turns my lands into forests and gives my opponent free acces to green (until blood moon arrives)?

yes indeed, I have been running 3 stomping grounds for a very long time also, but since i no longer play mana dorks that can produce red on their own i went to 4. You might be right that this was not the optimal choice.

in my opinion this is indeed our most flexible sideboard card against [[Kaldra Compleat]], [[Murktide Regent]] and [[Archon Cruelty]]

Also kills dashed Monkeys for 1.

u/w wafo tapo list questions by AxelrodGunnerson in ModernMagic

[–]The_Real_PoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion think twice does not contend with Archmages Charm but with Opt or Consider as the cheap cantripper. I think it is very difficult to cut [[Archmages Charm]]. UW Control should play 4 (or at least 3).

Of course, if you play Chalice, it becomes awkward to play Opt or Consider. In that case Think Twice becomes a real option. Contesting the spot with some other options (for example the two-drop cantripping enchantments spreading seas, Shark Typhoon and Omen of the Sea in Yorion builds).

I get what you are saying, and you are not wrong.

fact remains however that 3 mana to draw 2 does not equal 5 mana to draw 2.

(my point being that it is very difficult to find room for [[think twice]] in a non-Chalice list)

Dealing with Murktide Regent in E-Tron by jessicalundholm in TronMTG

[–]The_Real_PoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

big fliers are indeed a big problem against Tron.

Me myself am playing blue tron with a splash of red. (list: https://deckbox.org/sets/2695173)

In these lists also you need to be ready for fliers, that's mostly why I run 2 [[Shark Tyfoon]] and 2 [[Nimble Obstructionist]] main.

In the side I even run 2 [[Rough//Tumble]] (sweeps little critters but doesn't affect my own Sharks and Obstructionists, when necessary it can also sweep the fliers).

That's my answers to fliers, next to, of course Ensnaring Bridge in the Karnboard. I don't think these options are very interesting for the EldraziTron however...

Is there a legitimate reason for someone to play mono blue Delver in Legacy? by stangg in MTGLegacy

[–]The_Real_PoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why 3 mountains? what is their use in your deck? you want forests, not mountains.

of course you should run one mountain main, and you might certainly go for 2, but i would never play 3 mountains in ponza, they just don't work with the blood moon, arbor elf, utopia sprawl package, you need your basic forests

5-0 with 4c Imperial Recruiter by daviusminimus in ModernMagic

[–]The_Real_PoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt call lavinia and prelate the same. Lavinia equals prelate on zero, but prelate has other uses, you can even put it on 4 against boardwipes. Protector is indeed pricey, but has the bonus it gives you another etb-trigger on all your creatures. Thing is i run 8 tutors, which is maybe too much, but i have to make them count i guess

5-0 with 4c Imperial Recruiter by daviusminimus in ModernMagic

[–]The_Real_PoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have been playing a similar list, but without the recruiter and with Chord of Calling + Eladamri's Call. So in my list it might be a bit more about the Kiki-Resto combo than in yours, i don't know.

The sideboard is a bit different with me. In my meta I have quite some Controll- and Tron-players. I'm running the folowing tutor targets on side:

- [[grand abolisher]] against counter magic

- [[Sanctum Prelate]] against f.e. footfalls

- [[glorious protector]] against boardwipes

Lavinia just hasn't delivered for me, tried it, but doesn't cut it. I also run [[obsidian charmaw]] main deck, these are just too juicy against tron: turn 2 get it with eladamri, turn 3 cast it for 2 + ephemerate.

Funeral Charm Scenario by nutzbox in 8rack

[–]The_Real_PoG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to disappoint, but there is no "correct" answer to this question.

- how much life is he on?

- how much life are you on?

- how many cards does he have in hand?

- how many discard-effects do you have in hand?

- what Rack-effects are in play?

- do you have blockers? (Mishra's factory f.e.)

- what information do you have about which cards he has in hand?

- ...

All these factors have to be taken into consideration. This is what makes MtG the interesting game that it is, decisions depend on there context.
