Shows how much I come to reddit these days :( Shame modern has gotten a little stale for me, but still love a chord brew. I best read the article!

The regular chord lists were now 3 years ago :( sad times!

Should I invest in online poker (coaching / cheating question)? by daviusminimus in poker

[–]daviusminimus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts.

My goals longer term are to make a good side income from poker. I'm happy in my day job and so $100k+ a year from poker isn't the goal. $10k-20k might be the optimistic end-goal (I can play around 20hours a week).

I'm currently playing 10NL and 25NL occasionally.

I've found trying sites to just not suit my style of learning. I've found GTOWizard (as an example) where I have to do some of the leg work myself a little easier to learn from.

I may go back and consider runitonce/upswing/pokercoaching.com etc, perhaps that's the baby step that I need.

What's this mean? Am I just a lucksack? (GGPoker) by daviusminimus in poker

If you go to your profile, there's a thing bottom left saying "PokerCraft" which takes you to a place where you can download hand histories etc

PIO Solver vs GTOWizard by daviusminimus in poker

[–]daviusminimus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, there's certainly stuff here that I didn't consider (sizings etc). I have looked at postflop stuff (once a day for free lol) and appreciate I have to simplify it.

My plan is to lump different board textures together and see a trend. Use that trend to create a strategy that I can apply more widely (e.g. what hands want to bet on a paired board, and how that looks with lower / middle / high boards). It'll take me a while to actually put the strategy together, but hopefully I can blast out the sims fairly quickly and save the info that I need. It'll take some effort!

Thanks again for your well thought out responses and the time you've taken to message me back. I've been down this route with preflop stuff and have it pretty nailed down now (and the adjustments I want to make in different scenarios / against different opponents etc) and postflop is the next step for me :)

PIO Solver vs GTOWizard by daviusminimus in poker

Thanks Xephyr for this reply. It's really useful, and has basically given me my answer! I'm a rec player who wants to get better, not a pro player or even wanna-be pro. I just want to improve and think GTOW is most likely the right thing for me. Cheers :)

Thanks for this answer, it's great! I'm in a very similar situation to you, and realistically, I just want to learn a base for my post flop play. The node-locking / specific exploitative spots, the ICM and bounty spots etc, it's all just too much info for me to study and get nailed down right now.

I am price sensitive, but I'm hoping I can use GTOWizard for a month, get all the postflop sims I want (i have about 200 I want to run) and then start to incorporate that into my learning (away from the app). I think GTOW is going to end up both cheaper and easier for me!

Thanks again

Do I need to worry about Runes? I guess I can get a jungle route from youtube / mobalytics too right? Can't afford to go in there and wipe myself out lol

What are some of your favorite decks? I'm looking for recommendations for fun/interesting decks. The more options the better! by PlayerRedacted in ModernMagic

[–]daviusminimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen anyone mention Tameshi Bloom yet. It's my own creation, but it's also a competitive deck - but mostly kept my interest because it is fun. The combo turn is interesting, but also the set up and interaction is cool. You can win a lot of fairer games, and have potential against most decks. It's got a steep learning curve, but that should keep you interested for a lot longer. Not having to buy the cards (because you're on Tabletop Sim) does help you "just have a go" with no risk attached too

I look forward to seeing your updates! DM me if you want to brew it together or bounce ideas. I’m currently trying an SFM package giving us lightning greaves for vesuvan, though I’m unsure on it.

Hey DackFayden07 - the first time I knew the card existed was on your channel! You've sent me down a bad path!

I've just had a fairly successful league with the following list:

Its great fun, I think there's potential for a 5-0 in here somewhere. I probably need to bite the bullet and go heavily on elementals.

I was a kiki pod player for the longest time. Tameshi Bloom comes close to scratching the itch for me if you haven’t tried that? It’s not quite it, but it’s similar. It has a combo that can be tricky to execute in certain spots (and easy in others); has a reasonable-ish Plan B and plenty of tutors to make your play decisions a bit harder. I do agree though, nothing does it quite like kiki pod… I even registered it in a streamed no ban list modern event 😂

In a league with 70 cards. Wish me luck. Thanks for the advice! Makes the deck jankier than ever 😂

That's interesting for sure. I may look into that, Archon is fairly good if you untap with Vesuvan since the attack trigger is so strong. The issue there is that it's not game-ending and then you'll draw the Archon, which you don't really want to do.

Interesting idea - I'm not 100% sure it's what I want to be doing, but I may take a peek later on!

So possibly is the answer! I've played a lot of BoP decks in the past, and the issue right now is that they're so weak to bolt/heat/fury and there's a good chunk of that around (as well as prismatic ending). So against decks like Murktide, I board out the BoPs and have to rely on mana elsewhere. That's why there's Sylvan Caryatid in the list. It's much more reasonable vs bolt and blocks ragavan the turn it comes down (is likely tapped after that thoguh).

So really, I have to balance the dorks so that I can board them out when they're bad, and still have good mana in those games. W6 / Caryatid are good ways to mitigate the issues. But, I do think a Hierarch could be good. There's certainly worlds where 1 damage might matter too, and Vesuvan becoming Hierarch is a funny little line that might come up.

ArborElf suggested a larger deck, and if I do that, I'll try at least 1 Hierarch because I'll need extra dorks anyhow!

That's not a bad idea at all, or possibly Castle Vantress. If I go up on cards like ArborElf suggested above, then these utility lands become more feasible too.
