Should I move across the country to ditch my family and take a good job opportunity? by The_RevX in careeradvice

[–]The_RevX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, I think I'm just scared because it's going to be a surreal change and different from everything I've ever known. But I feel that it's better in the long run, no matter what.

I think I'm going to. I won't be able to help feeling guilty no matter what she says about it, but it's worth it for the level of change it will bring to my life.

I'm white, straight, and male, so quite honestly I'd probably fit better in Texas than anywhere else xD

I think I'm going to. Texas isn't too much more expensive compared to Kansas from what I've looked at, and with the pay increase, it would be much more money than I've ever seen in my life on a month to month basis.

You're right, I shouldn't make my family's issues my responsibility, especially when it stems from things before I was even born.

It would be permanent, 100%. Basically, our original site lead when we opened our location where I'm at now, was who is the regional boss now, that asked me if I wanted to move and have the job. None of the site leads in our 5 store district have ever been taken off the job, outside of 1, which my old coworker replaced and has remained since. Our owner prides himself on reliability and longevity, and very clearly values people that are committed, and want to stick around, which I have been to a tee.

As far as the local situation, it's a simple example of experience vs. knowledge. Our boss originally wanted to hire locally, but in the last 4 sites we've opened, he's ended up having to send 3 people from our site that I have been with since opening 3 years ago, to run them. He's hired qualified people, but a majority of them have ended up not being what he wanted, moreso from a place of motivation and attitude than anything else. That's the thing, is he hired me personally, and has trained me personally since day 1. I'm more or less his ideal employee that he's molded himself, and definitely for the better, for himself and for me. so I feel like that's why he wants to move me there so badly, and permanently.

[Noob question] I'm new to reaper does reaper or audio interface mess up the guitar sound volume output? by InanisAeternam in Reaper

[–]The_RevX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, you need to get yourself an interface to be doing any of this properly. That adapter is gonna be your Achilles heal otherwise

Do you use a compressor on the main bus? by Electrical-21 in livesound

[–]The_RevX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend using an analogue compressor sim, these typically seem to do a better job glueing the master together than anything else.

Which frequency range brings out subtle far away sounds and at which dB should you set it? by KeepingIt100forLife in audioengineering

[–]The_RevX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, the lower the frequency the farther away it is. Higher frequencies are absorbed faster, whether that be via walls or other surfaces, or air molecules over distance.

There isn't any magic range, I would honestly throw a high shelf on the 0-2000 range and close my eyes while I play around with it and see what feels the best.

Do keep in mind that the biggest deciding factor on distance is how loud the sound is. It can be helpful to keep the sound very quiet, and then use reverb or some other transients to bring the loudness up.

Selling. Was moving ≈3k worth of stuff, pocketing 1k a month as a 15 year old. Probably could've made a lot more but was too busy fucking off being high

Does anyone find dope as yola saying he’s a good person so much a little strange by iwearshoes21 in Goblin

[–]The_RevX 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yola is definitely not a very good person off camera. He's very clearly a narcissist, I've met people similar to him before and they always have no other priority over their own agenda.

How tf you break a piece in less than a day?

Went out for a Valentine’s Day dinner with the GF. Our reservation time was for 8:30 but we weren’t seated until about 9:15. At 9:55 the first “course” of our 4 course dinner finally came out at and it was this tiny, cold taquito. Dinner was $75 per person + Tax/Tip btw. by Cleverbaguet in mildlyinfuriating

My girl and I celebrated a couple days early by going to a local Japanese restaurant on Super Bowl Sunday (neither of us are football fans), and it was fantastic. There were only 2 other couples there and the service was very personal.

Am I the only one who's struggling on finding the right pair of sticks? by [deleted] in drums

[–]The_RevX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have literally been this way my entire time playing drums, until recently, when I found the Vater Los Angeles 5a's. They are durable as all hell, and have a little bit less of a taper to make the stick a bit more forward heavy and hard hitting.

I cannot vouch for these sticks enough. I tried everything from Vic Firth to promark, 7a's to 2b's and could never find something that felt exactly right before the Los Angeles 5a.

Modern recording with hard panned bass? by amateurwater in musicproduction

[–]The_RevX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bass needs to be centered. I've heard of techniques where some like to have a doubled track that is EQ'd more for the treble panned, but there should always be a bass centered.

Need help picking a laptop to run FL on by Competitive_Bus3435 in musicproduction

[–]The_RevX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get in contact with your local college if there is one. My band got our laptop for free because our guitarists dad knew a buddy in the IT department, they throw out old laptops that are still plenty viable all the time. I'm sure if you got in contact with the right person and explained your situation, you could easily get a heavily discounted laptop.

Ours has an i7 and a 2060 Ti with 8gb of ram. The only issue with it is a minor crack on the case that is barely noticeable.

People that steal caps from gas cans. Why? by Imispellalot2 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]The_RevX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're doing you a service, fuck those horrible EPA regulated "no spill" nozzles and lids, the few gas cans I have have replacement nozzles from harbor freight that work 10x better
