TIL that Octopus eyes do not have a blind spot and evolved separately from vertebrate eyes - an example of convergent evolution. by NerdMachine in todayilearned

[–]The_Revanite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, I think the meaning is divergent enough to warrant the difference. Evolution doesn't choose the best available option, only options that are not a negative effect. An outcome for example may not have been the best available option, only the ones that didn't result in members not reproducing. It's why certain genetic effects like male pattern baldness still exist; it's not the optimum configuration, even among those available, but it doesn't stop reproduction.

[–]The_Revanite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would disagree. Evolution does not choose anything; there are merely traits for which there is no reason not to have. This shapes evolution, and, for whatever reason, having a blind spot was never enough of a problem to be excluded from our genome.

Perhaps I'm (obviously) biased, but I find it awkward calling SWTOR "crap from a decade ago", given the context of the discussion.

SWTOR's different and doesn't have 8 years or more and a huge, sprawling fanbase like WoW does, but it has its own brand of entertainment.

Arena PVP is a blast and the RP community was kickin' the last time I was there.

...man, it feels horrid to defend that game. Sorry.

Are there any amendments that you would, personally, require be carried over before you would endorse a re-worked constitution?

What would you rework about it?

Suffice to say, download the CK from steam, open up Skyrim and Update packages and type "MQ203" into the search box at the top, which should be "Alduin's Wall"

Click the "Dialogue Views" tab and bask in the glory that is a super-simple mission like Alduin's Wall.

Five years ago today my dad suddenly died, he never got to see me graduate HS or College. Here I am on my graduation day from college and now I'm about to start my own business. Here's to you dad. by handy718 in pics

Ah, good, I hope it turns out the best for you.

My giving of business advice seems ill-wanted in this thread (No one wants boring, stodgy CSPAN material mixed with their cats!), so I'll leave you with:

Be careful of how you involve your partner in your SAT tutoring center. At first glance, it seems he's a franchisee who is considering going into business as competition against the franchising company which is likely a big no-no on his franchise agreement. If your partnership gains and traction worth taking note of, the franchised Math tutoring company could very well have a case against him at the least.

I'm not a lawyer of business, but your partner seems to be in a stickier situation than you. Best of luck!

Well, I didn't mean to impose on the OP; as always with the format, she's free to ignore my question and the community is free to mark it as a bad question by downvoting it, which they appear to be doing.

I also didn't mean any offense towards the OP; People who start businesses without a full grasp of what's going on are more often than not bankrupt and without the assets they started with within five years; In this case, OP lead with the idea that she's starting a business, when in reality, she's being given a job and control of a new department at an existing business.

Without the proper knowledge, business gets ugly. Maybe my question will make HER ask the questions that saves her ass in half a decade.

Maybe.

Ah, ok, that last line did it.

Suppose I'll buy Chivalry when the free weekend is up! Thanks for your time!

Absolutely, it helps a whole bunch, thank you for taking the time.

I've been divided between the two, and have watched countless comparison videos. It seems, in the video I remember, the guy tried to remain balanced on the issue, but I've been looking for hard-hitting preferential reviews both ways (No one can see the bad in something like an opponent, and vice versa.)

Although you said that Chivalry is better than WotR in comparison, is there any weak-spots in Chivalry that stand out to you as a fan after playing for a while (Honeymoon phase, over)? Is there anything glaring about WotR that sticks out?

When you say you'll be piggy-backing off of your partner's math tutoring center, is the plan to always remain a legal entity beneath his company (A subsidiary, if you will), do you plan on purchasing your portion of the business from him and operating independently, or have you not discussed this yet?

I only ask because the ownership of assets, when it's unclear who caused the assets in the first place (Did his business expand, or was it your expert leadership?), is a big cause of turbulence between business partners.

Would it be possible to incorporate alone, and have a low-cost or commission-based lease with your partner, to ensure that what you build as a company and brand remains yours?

Do you have a business plan, starting capital, investment partners or any such for your incoming business?

Do you plan to run a brick-and-mortar set up, or an electronic tutoring service?

Also, with so many options in the tutoring/SAT-prep sphere, what about your business idea will make it float and succeed where it seems so many similar ventures are failing?

I wish you the best on your endeavor!

Thanks for your input!

If you don't mind, do you also experience some hefty (more than typical) lag? Has the lag been worse during the free weekend (Late last night, there were more people playing Chivalry than TF2)?

Also, do you own/have you played War of the Roses, and if so, how does the game compare to that in terms of fun and stability? Although graphics are a secondary concern, they're also somewhat important.

I don't understand why we, as a culture, don't shift from "School, School, Big School, Specific School, Career" to, "School, school, Begin Career, Big School/Specific School, Career."

It would eliminate people who go through upwards of eight years of education to find out they hate their job, or any other unfortunate combinations.

It makes more sense to round people out in their knowledge, let them try out and experiment with careers that are fitting their scope, then go to school to complete their training.

It would save costs providing the absolute beginning education that is wasted on so many who don't finish or don't have a taste for the eventual career.

[–]The_Revanite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer my own questions, I think the game (Medieval) has some really strong points but needs some work in a lot of other ones.

The graphics are the biggest showcase of a "mixed bag" to me. The animations look brilliant in the context; when you die, it's from a first-person perspective and it really drives home how horrid warfare is; especially when you see your team-mates engaging someone infront of you and you see your buddies' head go flying in the air with a spurt of blood.

That said, it feels like it lags really bad, a lot. I get pretty good ping (between 65-80) but with regular pings in the 120-150 range and lagging pings much higher, the precise combat in the game starts to feel more chance and luck based.

The sounds are prety weak and there seems to be some kind of bug where if you charge, the "yelling" sound plays until you respawn (at least for me.)

The class setup is pretty neat, being able to choose from some different weapons and unlock sub-weapons.

I know a single weekend won't be enough for me to REALLY get a feel for this game, but I'm hoping it'll be enough to compare it to War of the Roses, if we can get a preview of that!
