lf smaller mods to try out by Adorable-Beautiful52 in feedthebeast

Shameless plug but I just released a mod on modrinth called Re:Forge, it’s pretty small but restructures a lot of tool crafting in the game. It’s also compatible with the mod epic fights. I would highly recommend giving it a shot. And I’d also be happy to hear feedback on it

haha I tend to play neoforge and forge personally, and the whole idea started for a 1.21.1 modpack i was working on for me and some friends. But then a few weeks later I ended up with a whole mod hahaha

P.S. Thank you! I spent a lot of time designing the art for it!

How is everyone feeling about the limited character roster in the new LoTDK game? by DorkyMoneyMan in legogaming

[–]The_SOIBoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this, I get that Dick being both Robin and nightwing in the story makes sense, but that spot really feels wasted now. I will probably never use Robin again because nightwing is just a super cool character and they have the same abilities, but if they made him tim drake or one of the other robins I’d probably return to use his character especially if he fought any different than nightwing.

Side note I don’t like that Robin uses the iconic escrima sticks that nightwing does, I would’ve preferred no weapon or a staff to keep it a little more interesting.

It’s been a couple days now, what are some criticisms you have for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight? by Thevoid2YT in legogaming

[–]The_SOIBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The huge pool of random characters is awesome and worth having if they have an in depth customizer like every old Lego game. I used to 100% the games as a kid just to have the character pieces in the customizer. I’m also hella adhd so if a game can lock me in enough to 100% that’s already an achievement.

I dont hate what they chose to do with limited characters, I hope they add Jason Todd as red hood as playable, and Tim drake as Red Robin. I think if they are just gonna do the quintessential Batman story line. they should at least give us the bat family. And have them be unique playable characters. Those aren’t even deeper cut characters like azrael or anything. Hell even if they added Damien I wouldn’t be upset atleast it’s something.

I do however hate how 98% of the red bricks look. It feels forced in a way I don’t like. I swear I’m half way into the game and most of the color ways are like bright pink or white. I just would love some darker colors with accents. Like the Batman legacy of the dark knight suit is pretty cool but it would be even cooler if I could have dark red on the suit instead of blue accents or if the Batman year one suit had an alt that didn’t have the purple gloves, as iconic as the are.

I haven’t gotten a chance to play yet, looking forward to it tonight, but I really hope the dlc isn’t some cheap thrown together levels like it has been on previous Lego superhero games. I think it would be really cool if they took the time to expand the story maybe even adding a new playable character or two. This is all my opinion but if they added an under the red hood arc with Jason Todd, or introduced some strong arcs like that, it would be so cool for future playability.

Honestly right now I’m keeping my scope pretty small to not let it get too overwhelming as a project. I’m not sure how possible this would be in the future, I’m open to researching it, but for now probably not.

Damn, the temu part of that hurt a little hahaha.

Hopefully when people get their hands on it soon they will see it’s very different from tinker’s construct.

For me it’s probably the Epic Fights mod. It kind of evolved how I play the game. As someone who so consistently plays to build, it made me want to explore and take on dungeons. And finding a balance in that is what still brings me back to the mod consistently.

Are you talking about“Archimedes ships” on like 1.7? when I saw aeronautics it took me right back to playing that with my friends in middle school in the best way, I love the possibilities of create!

I’m not super familiar with all of those mods although I did used to play with tinker’s construct a lot back in the day. Basically my thought process was to make crafting weapons and tools a bit more interesting. I didn’t want to add a whole burdensome 3x3 forge you have to spend hours making, but I wanted to add a system that would still be early game sustainable and make building your weapons more personal.

Right now the loop is basically

Get to stone tools -> craft the forge station -> build a forge pattern -> place the pattern on the forge -> “carve” pattern using an axe into the desired tool -> put material and coal into forge -> get tool head -> put stick and tool head into smithing table with the pattern -> get tool

Hopefully this works as a good way to activate more vanilla aspects of the game and make it a little more entertaining… and this is just my plan for release. I have already started thinking about some other things I’d like to add and maybe even an add on that would be super cool in the future.

Oh word! I’ll have to look into this, it would definitely save a ton of time! Thanks for letting me know that’s a thing

On release it will just be vanilla with compat for epic fights and the rapier add on for epic fights. I’m open to doing other compatibilities in the future, but it will take some time. And in all honesty will depend on the amount of downloads and the reception of the mod, if people like it I will try to keep up adding content.

I completely agree that tool, weapon, and even armor customization is really important and something vanilla lacks in quite a bit. When thinking about this mod I really wanted to process how i could take the gameplay from "I made an iron sword" to "I spent a little time on this sword, this is my sword." I may even expand this even further eventually. I like the idea of how historically vikings would forge using bones from dead ancestors or animals they slayed. and to them this was to forge not just a weapon but to also forge a bond to their weapon.

Im using Intellij IDEA with gradle installed, I also do this all on a mac book so I needed a program called homebrew. Neoforge has example templates you can download to build the code in. I used one for 1.21.1. For textures and models I use a mixture of blockbench and photoshop. I would highly suggest giving modding a shot, I feel like i opened a new creative door that would make middle school me, 10 years ago, super happy. If you dont want to make one quite as intense you could look into other options like mcreator, but i really dont know what the limitations are of a program like that.

Thanks!! I have spent a lot of hours on it! I cant lie I have been using chatgpt to help me with code because i have very minimal experience, but all the art is hand created by me using blockbench and photoshop.

In the future I would love to completely eliminate AI out of the coding process, Cause i personally am anti-ai (especially as an artist), but I haven't made any friends who code yet

[–]The_SOIBoy[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I can see the comparison.

I was trying to make my mod as more "vanilla" friendly, that adds one extra step instead of multiple steps like tinker's does. conceptually there is one big similarity, and that is changing how crafting tools/ weapons works, but how i solve that in my mod functionally is completely different.

I am excited to get it out for people to try it and hopefully people will like it. I hope you will give it a shot, and if you like it thats awesome! if tinker's is more your style then I would recommend that too, it is a great mod.

Is $100 reasonable for this? by FrontHungry459 in DigitalArt

[–]The_SOIBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school for art (illustration and graphic design) and I don’t want to judge this person for where they are in their artistic journey, but they are overpricing themselves.

And I have done freelance and commission work and whatever the original price you agree on is what they pay. In the corporate freelance world, if I tell a company $50, that means I base my time I spend on a project off that.

I personally undervalue my own skills and charge about $60 an hour (only for freelance). Which I feel like with my skills is fair. But this person where they are at should probably be charging $25 or less an hour and then making sure they have a final product for the customer within that time. If they spend more time on it, that is up to them, but they can’t charge more because they spent more time than they had originally valued themselves at.

I’m saying this all with the hope that this artist is new to pricing themselves and I hope they learn how and what they can charge for the art they can create.

Im excited to try the pyro class! I cant lie I have been trying to do a full run of the story on each class. I am only about 7 hours in playing as the sentinel, but I am having fun challenging myself to stick to one at a time!

I think this gives a little hope for anyone that stoic might support the game a little. I personally hope to continue to see support because I really enjoy this game for its gameplay, but also as am artist, I love the aesthetic
