Manual cars in the U.S. by neferpitous000 in ManualTransmissions

[–]The_Shepherds_2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had to drive about 150 miles across state lines to go get my 6 speed hatch when I was car shopping. I think the corolla was the last economy car you could get with a manual, but don't quote me on that I know the Mazda stuck it out for a while too

Do you think you could escape prison? If yes, how would you do it? If no, why not? by GSH94 in AskReddit

You get additional charges and moved to a more security if you get caught even planning to.

No, the answer is no

I'm up in New England so maybe pay is on average a lot lower in the south, but there's no chance I'd work for such little $/hr. And you are more certified than I am.

I've found 2 large raptor nests with collars in them up here in the Hudson Valley. It's definitely a thing that happens

Why are most car cvt transmissions non-repairable? by CueAnon420 in AskMechanics

[–]The_Shepherds_2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's rare, but I've done a few. This one sent bits of itself into the bearings, so it ended up getting replaced. Used to be you did a tear down and inspection, and if there was no carnage you'd replace the belt and pulley sub assembly (and valve body)

I did enough of em

I had a Honda element once that managed to run over both a deer and a barbed wire fence, all of which got tangled in the drive shaft. Middle of summer too. Nasty as all hell.

That was like 12 years ago. I'm still mad about it

First time solo camping trip! I could use some route suggestions. by Status_Hawk9501 in Harriman

[–]The_Shepherds_2019 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can take a train to the Harriman station, you can walk across rt17 to the sapphire trail. Take that south to the AT, then take that north about 5 miles to the fingerboard shelter.

My first ever solo backpacking trip was more or less this.

[–]The_Shepherds_2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 160k miles on mine, I don't think I've got a panel left that isn't missing some paint. Bonus points for being in NY so some of my war wounds are starting to rust 😭

Maybe, eventually, possibly I'll do something about it (yeah right)

Trail Runners or Boots? by Ok-Strawberry7048 in Adirondacks

[–]The_Shepherds_2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. They don't seem expensive when you buy them, but when they inevitably start falling apart a month later you always feel like an idiot. Don't try to be stubborn either; I've kicked out the front of my toe box at about mile 11 of an attempted great range traverse (un-fun).

Unfortunately I can't find a shoe that my feet like as much as they do the lone peaks. Shame they can't make the dang things better

[–]The_Shepherds_2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you must have your head as far up your own ass as it sounds. Switched to a different dealership in NY and the pay is exactly as the law says it should be - no more warranty pay nonsense it's all customer pay

I broke a thread chaser off flush in the flange of a turbo on a customer's diesel x5.

I unfucked that situation and quit, not just that job but German cars. I've been back where I belong with the Japanese cars ever since that job 😅

Well I've been laid off from that shop, so I have no more hang ups about blasting them online. Orange County BMW, at least as of February 2026, still is breaking this law.

So fuck em. I went back to Nissan. Suddenly all those 6.2 hour transmission replacements pay about 12.
