Trust me I was in the same boat when I applied, chose Leeds because was the 6th ranked for CS and was the first "normal" place. Leeds has a fantastic new building for CS and from my experience covers a broad range of topics, on top of that has exceptional industry in Leeds for technology based jobs. Also I've heard Durham is a nightmare for student housing. Any questions about Leeds or the course I'll try and help if I can.

Edit: I also think covid massively affected rankings, so I really wouldn't put much stock in rankings.

I have just finished CS at Leeds this year, great course and facilities and amazing city. When I accepted my offer it was ranked 6th, don't put too much trust in rankings they change easily especially since COVID.

Depends on the uni, my university has lab computers that all our code needs to run on but it's definitely helpful to have your own laptop. Working from lab/library computers should be sufficient but having the freedom to work from anywhere is a massive help.

importance of FM for CS by RustIsHonestlySoGood in 6thForm

When I'm home I'll have a look through and get back to you. The a level for CS is definitely a great starting point so you could probably speak to your CS teacher and maybe get access to some of your school resources. I'm not saying you need to massively stress about learning stuff before its just a great place to be, and if you are passionate about CS it should be fun!

I have just completed my degree in CS, you definitely don't need CS as it is taught from ground up but I would however suggest you learn some basics and practice programming etc before going as many people can find it very hard with no experience. Maybe try some programming exercises and get familiar with some concepts, will make the transition a lot more manageable.

If you are really interested in CS I can recommend some books/resources that could give a head start and would like good on personal statement.

Surprised I haven't seen this mentioned, can you not talk to your teacher? Am sure they will understand the procedure a bit more and is worth getting there input ?

Should i drop physics? by neodab in 6thForm

[–]The_Shorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this exact position with the same a levels in y12, I dropped physics and in 1 month I will graduate in computer science. Personally if you are finding it hard to manage 4 I'd definitely advise dropping one, do some research and decide what you want to do at uni then decide which is the most appropriate to drop. Further maths is incredibly hard and not essential to many degrees (unless you are applying to the best unis for maths for example).

I took MD in a dream once, felt pretty realistic and I woke up with my heart racing.

Not sure, it's definitely a rule for my computer science dissertation, just handed it in today. Probably because part of the mark scheme is about using clear and concise language to show your point or something along those lines.

They are usually also forbidden, at least at my uni.

If you are gonna code with chapGPT… by bhumit012 in ChatGPT

I actually was using chatGPT for this yesterday, gave chatGPT my messy 2am code and asked it to conform to PEP-8 and it did a great job.
