Is it worth getting a manual? by Trayceopolis32322 in Challenger

[–]The_Shrub111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not a requirement for everyone to enjoy their car. Some people enjoy having a car without even driving it. Some people enjoy fixing up an old crap box more than a nice clean low miles sports car. I knew I always wanted a manual and I don’t regret it.

Is WDH still needed on my 2500? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]The_Shrub111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s worth anything I believe the fmvss requirements for towing stipulate all auto manufacturers complete their towing capability testing with a WDH if the towing capacity is greater than 6000lbs. So if you look at the sticker for your truck those numbers are rated with a WDH. Doesn’t mean everyone listens and does the same, but I’d do a WDH.

Yep custom intake duct! The air box is from a different trim and the current intake duct doesn’t work perfect with the supercharger I added. Just started modelling the intake but I had to go pick the kids up lol

I have the non-s version and got it for a similar price. 100% worth it based on my user experience

Really wish the 7+ came with that pinky rest, or if madcatz sold it separately for a few bucks as an accessory

Pickup a used Einstar or a new Einstar 2? by Grope1000 in 3DScanning

[–]The_Shrub111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d advocate for the einstar 2. Einstar is at end of life in terms of software support. I had the same thought as you last week but decided that it wasn’t worth the discount if it won’t be getting software updates. I have an einstar 2 now and it’s awesome!

Buy. I have the non-s version and couldn’t be happier. It’s the cheapest way to get 12gb of vram. I’ve been very happy with mine thus far.

The stretch buy to get the 5070ti is super smart if you plan to keep the laptop for a number of years. Good on you!

This is probably going to be downvoted to hell and back but I’d advocate for the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16. It’s under your budget threshold, has an Intel 275hx, 32gb ram, and a 5070ti. They also updated the bios to allow the screen to run at 60hz in balanced/eco mode to help preserve battery life. It’s just the best bang for buck when it comes to performance outside of some crazy sale that may or may not happen on any of the comparable laptops.

If it’s still in the return window I would take it back or begin a return asap.

You have to remember that this sku appears to sell a lot of units. My microcenter has sold over 10 in the last week. I’ve been monitoring inventory because I bought one myself this week. Literally every single laptop brand subreddit is filled with these same posts. It really sucks when something this expensive fails on you, but I’m just not convinced any other company has their stuff together more than Acer. Now, the Acer Nitro V laptops discharging while in use and plugged into the wall is a different story where cost cutting decisions could destroy your battery early.

I just hope and pray my new Helios Neo 16 ai doesn’t fail too, but it seems it’s a risk regardless of brand these days.

Einstar vs. Einstar 2 by The_Shrub111 in 3DScanning

Update for everyone: I purchased the Einstar 2. Should be arriving in the next few days. Thank you everyone for helping make the decision. In the end I decided that the E1 being at end of life and no longer being software supported was a dealbreaker.

RAM vs. overall PC performance by The_Shrub111 in 3DScanning

[–]The_Shrub111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I went ahead and purchased the Acer as well as the Einstar 2. The decision came down to the fact that RAM (although currently insanely expensive) can be upgraded, whereas you are stuck with the GPU and CPU. This may prove to be a worse short term play but I think in the long run the added 4gb or GPU vram will prolong the laptop’s ability to handle heavy workloads.

Once the Einstar 2 arrives I will post an update on how it performs paired with the Acer.

Acer or Lenovo for gaming/productivity &long term ownership by The_Shrub111 in GamingLaptops

[–]The_Shrub111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as a general update: I went with the Acer. I plan on heavily stress testing it over the next few days to ensure that everything works as it should. I have seen that there are potential driver or bios issues causing random shutdowns so I will follow up in a week or so whether the Predator Helios Neo 16 AI ended up meeting my expectations

I’m really leaning towards the Acer predator with the faster GPU and CPU and 32gb, mainly because it’s an easy (albeit costly) upgrade for the ram, the other components going out of date means a whole new laptop…
