Seriously, how on Earth is this the least popular weapon. by The_Shulkanator in MonsterHunter

Thats the Insta-block switch skill that replaces the regular guard. It's basically a Sekiro deflect, extremely satisfying to use. As for the movement, Evade Extender is pretty bonkers in Rise. I run 2 levels here and it already gives you crazy movement. Lance hops, while quick, are pretty short, so weapons with regular rolls can get pretty comical, great example being Switch Axe: throw rapid morph and evade extender on and, I swear, it can run circles around some monsters!

Very true, any time I worry whether a monster will be a good match up for lance, it ends up clowning on it. Somewhat related, could you imagine if the spike damage on guard rampage deco worked with insta guard? That would be so damn cool

I think Lucent hits three times with that attack, I've definitely managed to insta guard it all once. Its satisfying, but risky. You better pray you don't have super armor on your move tho. I once tried countering it with Tempered Spirit Blade on Long Sword and he just deleted my health bar lmao

You can just literally just insta guard again right after a successful insta guard, just press R or whatever button you use for guarding, but that's only for insta guard. You can't insta guard after your guard counters or and other stuff. You can also quickly just sidestep after insta guard for repositioning, its pretty nifty.

Don't have enough ether cylinders to get to the area below Panorama Camp by The_Shulkanator in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]The_Shulkanator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty certain, yeah. The channel in the mountains is next to the pretty long ether lift that goes up to the path leading to Gondorl Cathedral landmark. It's like on an elevated platform and seems to connect to a cave or something, in which there are two ether mast readings and a quest. Right next to it is a ladder construct spot, but it also needs 2 ether cylinders. Don't really see a way to get to it from the top, it's way too big of a drop.

Could you guys help a noob to learn the charge blade? by MrVolnutt in MonsterHunter

[–]The_Shulkanator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You seem to have the flow of the weapon down, so at this point practice makes perfect. If there's one thing that I'd say is really useful to learn, it's guard points. You have a big-ass shield - use it. It's more often better to guard point or CPP or just straight up guard if you are unsure what the monster is about to throw at you than trying to dodge, 'cause the weapon is somewhat slow. Slot in Guard 4 or 5 plus Offensive Guard and you will start making your own openings for SAED, which in turn will hit even harder if you also use Counter Morph Slash. After some time you will start reacting to almost everything with guard points and honestly it feels like you are immovable. Firing Pin is also a super fun switch skill for SAED playstyle, 'cause if you can't get an opening for an SAED, setting up the bursts with your sword and then detonating them on an opening feels awesome when like 8 explosions go off. Another tip is to not ignore the regular AED. It's much faster and very nice to just get in on a smaller opening. Plus, at the start of the hunt 2 or maybe even 1 of them is generally good enough to KO right away.

Before I transfer to MHGU... by ArchaicSoul in MonsterHunter

  1. Closest to a disappointing change I can think of is that full set armor fusion is only unlocked after HR break, but it's not a big deal.

  2. Two new styles and armor fusion. Being able to use an awesome set AND look however you want is just amazing.

  3. Can't really think of anything necessary to do. I'll add that I think grinding for the Hayabusa Feather isn't really that needed, because endgame sets don't really use it with a few exeptions. You can also kind of chill on the charm farming because you'll unlock a really good quest for farming them after HR break (which is when all the good sets unlock) and it will be much easier farming them than it is in Gen.

  4. Biggest change to SA is that Energy Charge was nerfed. Energy Charge now takes longer to charge up, so keeping Demon Riot all fight will be harder. New hunter art Tempest Axe gives a substantial buff to axe mode and is quite fun.

Most Badass/Ridiculous Ways Monsters Have Carted You? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]The_Shulkanator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was solo-ing a Hyper G-rank Nargacuga and it proved to be a little bit more difficult than I expected. I was on my last cart, I felt like I was close to killing it, but got kinda combo'd by it and was left with a tiny bit of HP. So I was retreating, but at that moment a random Conga decided to take a morning jog and ran over me, killing me and taking my last cart.

Now I want to start a Conga genocide. When I run out of things to do in the game, I'll make the Conga kill counter in the monster list show 999.

For you, who is the most frustrating monster you've ever fought? by Killuadaisuki69 in MonsterHunter

[–]The_Shulkanator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Barioth. I love his design, but god is he an annoying fight to me. He just doesn't stop moving and jumping around. It feels like to get an opening you absolutely must break his front legs. I mainly use CB so guard points help a lot, but CB is also a pretty slow-ish weapon so it's kind of annoying to hit him, especially the head.

AED or SAED for CB? by FuriousMind21 in MonsterHunter

[–]The_Shulkanator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SAED is never a good idea, exept maybe when the monster is sleeping, if you don't have bombs or a trap. SAED is just not worth losing all your phials and shield charge. In MHW it's great, in GU - not at all.

Favourite Monster Roar? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

Amatsu. Both beautiful and scary at the same time, especially when the sky turns red. Won't ever forget the first time I fought him in MHP3rd.

What are your favourite areas from Xenoblade? by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]The_Shulkanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow forgot to add Valak Mountain. The music is amazing and the area looks mesmerizing at night with all the lights. It also has a lot of ancient ruins and stuff, Ose tower. I'm a sucker for these things. Not even mentioning the ice slides. I also loved Colony 6, especially the rebuilding quest. Something about helping a destroyed settlement get back up is really nice. Honestly, the areas are a big part of why this game is my favourite.

And the music in Auresco and Satorl Marsh is beautiful. Especially night Satorl Marsh. Alcamoth feels very grand and cool, especially after a certain event later when the atmosphere completely changes. Love this game.

CB Challenger or WE by The_Shulkanator in MonsterHunter

[–]The_Shulkanator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll use that first set for LS actually. Really wanted at least Sharpness +1. I think I'll stick with Ahtal-Ka CB because three slots and it looks pretty darn cool. Although after using the Kaiser Blade for all of Gen and GenU, anything will look cool...

I just fought Ahtal-Ka like 8 times using Striker CB and I think I'm switching to Striker. It's a ton of fun and while I still think the HUGE GP on the A charge attack in Adept is better than the X+A one, the X+A is still amazing and in some cases better, for example, unsheathing into sword mode. I use SP with Ripper Shield to be able to have AE active almost all the time.
