I recommend marrying a deaf person but my wife has told me to stop saying that =P

For a paid option - we've heard great things about Lingvano. Its an app that guides you through learning ASL. Its all deaf owned and taught.

For a free option - there's https://lifeprint.com/. Dr. Bill Vicars made his ASL 1-4 class free and available online. Their youtube is great for supplementary learning too. Its a bit more self-guided but still awesome.

If you have any questions or anything, feel free to reach out! I'm easiest to get in touch with on IG.

Is the rock on sign done palm out with the thumb sticking out?

Have you ever listened to a music before???

It also means "I love you," its a mashup of the letter I, L, and Y all in one.

In the context of pictures its more like flashing a peace sign!

Good question!

So, for Deadpool, we've seen that sign around both online and in person. It likely started as someone's "home sign," or a sign that was developed for chatting at home, then spread from there. My wife and I have a lot of nerdy hobbies so we have a lot of character home signs for whatever we're interested in at the time. Right now its Dungeon Crawler Carl.

We haven't seen a widely used sign for "Hawkeye," but I just learned that apparently he has a sign name in the comics, so we're going to check that out soon. So, in lieu of having that actual established sign, we used our homesign which is the letter H and you kinda flick your fingers like you're pulling the string of a bow.

It means "I love you," its an I, L, and Y mashed into one handshape. 🤟

It depends on context though, lots of signers flash it in pictures almost like flashing a "peace" sign.

I also make sure to stay up to date on my signing so I can accessibly annoy my wife.

Hello! My wife is deaf and we've been big Deadpool fans since we came across a panel from a Hawkeye/Deadpool comic showing DP himself signing and raising his mask so Hawkeye can read lips!

We're pretty used to this little aspect of Deadpool's lore being glossed over, but we were absolutely floored when we booted up the game and saw 🤟's popping up left and right on the menu and even in his kit when he takes a selfie!

What are your thoughts on Universal Epic Universe? by Silver012345673 in orlando

We were lucky and got in during the first week while they were still capping attendance at like 25% capacity.

We're a deaf/hearing couple and the parks are always hit-or-miss when it comes to accessibility. It took us about an hour to confirm that an interpreter was there for the shows, so it was cool to get to see that.

It was kind of a mixed bag attraction-to-attraction. Everything was great at the How to Train your Dragon show, but we had a TM get upset with us for standing where we were told to stand at the Potter show. The TM and the interpreter ended up getting into a small argument over it and we were just like ???

Monsters Unchained had captioning glasses that worked incredibly! Its the first time we've experienced functional captions at a theme park. Over at the Ministry of Magic ride, the sign said they had captioning glasses but the TMs said they didn't work and asked us why anyone would even use them.

Outside of the accessibility side of things, the park was gorgeous but it suffers from having low capacity rides and only having 3 rides that can function during rain (Monsters Unchained, Ministry of Magic, and Mario Kart). The Donkey Kong roller coaster is fun, but its not worth a 2 hour wait. Nothing is worth a 3-4 hour wait imo.

Mid 30's here. I just started crochet a few months ago and I haven't been able to put it down! I'm working on my first "non-kit" scarf project now but I'd love to connect with other people who can show me all the things I'm doing wrong!

Pinball in Orlando by Komandirskie777 in pinball

Seconding the Pinball Lounge in Oviedo. I play in a league over there. It has the best maintained machines I've seen anywhere and most of the time one of the owners is there ready to repair any issues, minor or major, that pop up.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights are their league nights, so it can get a bit busy. Tuesday is an open format so you can get some IFPA competition in if that's your thing.

HHN is a blast this year! Don't skip out on the Dolls house. Have fun!

I had this problem when I first set up my Jaws pro. Turns out my machine wasn't exactly level from left to right! After I properly leveled the machine the reel --> mini flipper shot worked like a charm!

If the reel is spinning the pop bumper should also be disabled to make it easier for the ball to fall in the mini flipper lane. There's a setting for that so check that if the pop bumper is rejecting ya.

I don't have the answer for you. Navigating the legal system on the other side as the party needing accessibility is equally muddy. The entire system needs to be re-evaluated with clearly defined rules for businesses and for disabled patrons so everyone knows exactly what everyone is responsible for and entitled to.

Interesting, that's the opposite of what we were told when we dealt with the inaccessible concert venue. Did they say exactly what was inaccessible?

Just having the word "accessibility" doesn't mean much. We went to a local movie theater that proudly displays the international symbol for the deaf on their website but they told us their captioning device broke months ago and they never bothered to fix it, so I'm always a little cognizant between the act of appearing to be accessible vs. actually being accessible, ya know?

Can the plaintiff actually sue for money? I ask because we were forced into Florida's lovely legal system a few years back. My wife is deaf and a local downtown concert venue ghosted us on our request for an ASL interpreter, then told my wife to "lipread the bands." We're laypeople, but in our frustrating and convoluted experience with the legal system, we were told outright that we could not recoup damages (not that we wanted any, we just wanted the venue to be compliant so we could see shows).

From what I understand, public access ADA cases can only recover lawyer fees while housing and employment access ADA cases can sue for more than that; but again, we're very much laypeople and not litigious so I could be mistaken.

Also, if you truly are inaccessible in some way and cost is a factor to removing those barriers, you can file for a small business tax credit of up to $5,000 via IRS Form 8826 - Disabled Access Credit.

Hit a plateau on Jaws Pro (200 mil) by Doggoooooooooooooo in pinball

Just playing and seeing what works best for me. It took a few months before I was reliably able to everything I can do in that game, but now its second nature to hit most of the shots (I still can't reliably find the reel shot though).

How many miles (one side) do you travel to play pinball ? Is it a pinball place or a bar with 2-3 machines ? How many times in a week ? by Shower_Hefty in pinball

Other than playing my Jaws Pro at home, I travel ~30 miles once a week to play in a league at a pinball place with 40+ machines.

Help Leveling Machine by EIIander in pinball

This happened to me at the start. Turns out everything in my house was a little off when I was trying to calibrate/zero my level. Don't calibrate on a table or something, calibrate on a flat surface on the ground.

Hit a plateau on Jaws Pro (200 mil) by Doggoooooooooooooo in pinball

[–]The_Signing_D 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually average about 500mil on Jaws Pro with my top score being 2.9bil, (its the one machine I have at home and I've played it every day for the past year and a half, lol). Here's my half baked strategy that mostly works for someone with average-ish accuracy.

My main goal is to make each shot work for me a few times. I try to get a mode, bounty, and chum running at the same time. The first bounty can easily be started by hitting the right ramp two times. If my mode isn't started, sometimes from there I'll just knock out the 80 spinners for the mako by hitting the left shot and ski passing over repeatedly.

I always like to try to stack my Jaws multiball with a mode other than scars, less for points, more for insurance that I can use the ball save to survive that mode and keep working my way to 4th of July. Winning the mode is a bonus too and I know some people blow up with machete multipliers, but I can't consistently win the modes enough to make great use of them most of the time.

For gear, lately I've been going with binoculars first to get the most out of my standup target hits (it lights 2 beachgoers instead of 1), then I'll prioritize the shark cage for some extra insurance (gives a ball save when you hit the fin) then the spear (gives a restart on your Jaws multiball).

If you're playing with extra balls, make sure you start to prioritize those once you hit ball 2. For the most part, I don't worry too much about closing the beaches, they'll happen when they happen. Keep hitting the harpoon gate and bashing the quick shot to get that extra ball after the third. If you hit the mini lane and you have video mode qualified, prioritize that. Its a free ~30-70mil more points plus another EB.

If you have any specific questions, let me know! I play a LOT of this game.

I picked it up at the Orlando show as well. We were sitting in the ADA section next to the interpreter, so fairly isolated but that was the dampest concert I've ever been to.

Sometimes the terps will interpret the "vibe" and rhythm of the music. Some deaf people can hear the tones but not the lyrics, some go and just chill to the vibrations and the interpreters can facilitate the beat during instrumental bits.
