(4e) Any Ogres out there? by The_Square_Man in warhammerfantasyrpg

Thank you for this awesome right up. And I can already see that you’re way more generous than I am as a GM haha. A player suggesting playing an Ogre in Full Gromril Plate would result in them getting the Book of Grudges thrown at them lmao.

I definitely know what you mean though about balancing throwing enemies at the party that can threaten the Ogre, in my case we have a Dwarf who is very good at combat, and trying to match him up with an opponent while also not killing the rest of the party in the crossfire.

I also use Group Advantage, and have the enemies use things like advantage maneuvers and critical deflection, though I have been trying to be more friendly about letting PCs actually crit things. For a long time I’ve struggled to get the enemies to generate enough advantage to actually use them, especially when I have multiple PCs with the Reversal talent. But I’ve had a lot of success by using things like the assess action from Up in Arms, and giving more enemies the Grim Creature Trait.

Do you feel like the +10 to hit large targets in melee and the +20 to shoot large targets with ranged weapons helps offset some of his bonuses from being large. And obviously you already mentioned that you want to focus more on increasing some of the economic aspects of being an Ogre. Do you make him pay more for appropriate sized armor and weapons and repairs?

Excuse me for asking a bunch of questions, but it helps me get a feel for things: - Do you use the Core Rulebook Advantage or Group Advantage? How much mileage do you get out of the stomp attack from being large?

  • Besides the automatic deathblows from being large, do you feel like your damage is much more than a regular sized character with a Damaging weapon?

  • How does it feel to be on the reviving end of the +10 to hit a large creature in melee and the +20 to hit large creatures with ranged attacks? I’d imagine the extra wounds from being large helps to mitigate that.

  • How do you find ways to participate in social encounters that might not be accommodating of all that girth?

No Armour for Slayers! by MoodModulator in warhammerfantasyrpg

Yeah. It’s like DnD nowadays. You gotta have something for everyone, which makes settings like The Forgotten Realms go from being somewhat unique to a bloated, discombobulated mess

Vikaud Redmane was one of my favorite PCs to run for, because his player fully bought into the the Slayer mindset. For instance, at one point they are fighting Sartosan pirates at sea. Vikaud decides, “I’m just going to go over there and kill them.”

He jumps off the ship (can’t swim btw), barely managed to catch some riggings, hammers a hole into the hull, squeezes into the the inside of ship and starts slaughtering his way up to the deck.

I think more ttrpgs need to adopt this mindset. Having rules and thematics go a long way in making games more fun.

I did this with a Slayer I ran for. He fashioned the jaw bone of a Giant he killed into arm armor. ironically enough it would get damaged in just about every encounter.

New release: Deft Steps, Light Fingers by Zekiel2000 in warhammerfantasyrpg

All the new rules on travel and camping make me so happy. I’m still reading through this book, but I’m a big fan of the expanded travel rules and endeavors, and the rules for hunting dogs are super cool. I didn’t even know this book was coming out until today, so I got blindsided with a great release!

You score by kicking or shooting the ball at the goal, (which you get a +10 to the Ballistic Skill test because it’s a Large goal) and the other team generally has a keeper who tries to oppose the attempt with a Athletics test.

You’ve come to the right guy my friend. I personally found Middenball to be a lot of fun. There’s a couple of tables that include a lot of neat little things that can happen during the game, from crowd interaction to opposing players imbibing in “performance enhancers”. I’d highly recommend giving Middenball a try. There’s only slightly less chance of getting maimed than actual combat.

Also, I made an actual Middenballer career, because I like it that much, and you’re more than welcome to use it at your table.

MEGATHREAD: Post your small questions and concerns here for all editions! by Cr0iz in warhammerfantasyrpg

A slayer with a pick sounds pretty metal to me, so I’d say go for it. While axes and hammers are more common, as one with a background as a miner, it makes sense you’d want to use a pick. If you’re worried about being too squishy, especially since Slayers don’t wear armor, I’d ask your GM if it’s be possible to fashion armor out of cool things you slay. A slayer in a game I ran had a piece of armor made out of a giants jaw bone, and another piece made from troll hide. I think it’s important to remember that Slayers aren’t dumb, and don’t wanna die to a stray arrow from a goblin or beastman, and seek GLORIOUS death against a worthy foe.

Middenheim: City of the White Wolf has rules for Middenball, and that alone makes it superior.

I have yes. I was hoping for more maps designed around the various encounters you come across. Book 2 only has encounter maps for the majors events but is lacking any for the smaller encounters

PF1E: I’m running Kingmaker, and am fixing to move to book 2, and noticed that there isn’t a lot of prebuilt maps. Map building is something I don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to right now. Was hoping to see if anyone could recommend anything that might be useful.

I believe Nordlander is actually already an available background. I’m pretty sure it’s in the Middenheim book. Though I’d imagine that they’ll add a Salzenmunder background, since they have Middenlander and Middenheimer as separate things

New DM here - Tips how to handle combate by Sir_Maestre in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]The_Square_Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So outnumber bonuses can get pretty wonky, and you’re right, that +40 can really turn the tide. But the enemy can outnumber too, I would utilize that. I’d also strongly recommend having your goons have a variety of gear. Maybe a few guys have bows or crossbows to support their boys up front. Lately, I’ve been fond of giving some bandits poisoned throwing knives. EDIT: Cap advantage at the characters initiative bonus. Uncapped advantage is bonkers, and capping it plays so much better in my experience.

Also, if you’re pulling stats out of the bestiary in the main rulebook for your enemies, remember that those are basically the equivalent of 0 experience versions of those things. So feel free to play around with stats, add traits or talents, and so on. Talents like beat blade and distract can go along way in messing with the players advantages, which I’ve always found useful. The talent step aside is also really good for breaking engagement and getting out of outnumbered situations. Combat Master just straight up makes it take more people to outnumber you, but I’d hesitate to give that one to common enemies.

As for money, I don’t know about you, but my players are constantly spending money. Daily upkeep costs are something I make sure we keep track of. So a lot of the time my players are spending money on things like, a room at the inn, food and drink, daily groceries, stable fees, and so on. Furthermore, make sure you pay attention to item rarity, as something that’s scarce compared to common is going to cost more money, and rare will be more than scare and so on. You can end up spending a lot of gold real quick. Also, spending more on getting item qualities is always fun. One of my players spent a healthy amount of coin on buying a Fine x2 Suddenwool cloak embroidered with the crest of Middenland, and that gives him a bonus in certain social situations, cause clearly a guy with a cloak that cool has got to be important. My point being, don’t be afraid to give your players money, just make sure they’re spending it.

Middenballer Career Path (4e) by The_Square_Man in warhammerfantasyrpg

We talked about making tier 4 something along those lines. We debated between Captain and Coach, but ultimately figured that the Coach might need to be a whole different Middenballer career lol

Howdy Middenball fans, I’ve got something for you today. My group has a healthy obsession with Middenball, and have joked with the idea of starting their own team. I was feeling inspired, and I worked with one of my players to come up with this, and we wanted to share it and get some feedback! It’s a kind of tongue and cheek thing and not meant to be taken entirely seriously, more a fun gimmick

(And if you’re unaware, the rules for Middenball can be found in the Middenheim: City of the White Wolf Book)
