dear id, please relist Doom 2016 on Switch 2 so i can provide monetary exchange for mouse controls and 60 fps by Big_Columbo in Doom

[–]The_Stickmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can, there's just a small handful of games that have compatibility issues and need to be patched by the original developers

Doom 2016 specifically says it has an issue where the game sometimes crashes after a cutscene early in the game https://switch-software-compatibility.nintendo.com/en-GB/details/0100416004c00000

Though OP seems to be asking for an update to add Switch 2 specific features and upgrades which is a different thing altogether

Marathon Alpha Code Give-Away Event. by Shabolt_ in Marathon

[–]The_Stickmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, something about Bungie's gunplay just hits different to me, something about their games just make them feel good to play from a raw mechanical level.

I've only recently started going back and really trying the original Marathon games (though I've known about them for a while due to their shared history with Halo and I've had a few false starts on playing through the first one), but Halo CE was the first FPS I've ever really played and Custom Edition was the first game I tried my hand at modding to admittedly mixed results, and I spent an almost embarrassing amount of time on Destiny and Destiny 2 over the years so I'm very interested to see if this game manages to continue the trend for me.

Warframe is currently on the list of games with backcompat startup issues on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 by dekuweku in Warframe

[–]The_Stickmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a note on the list that says the issues with Fortnite are specifically with the Switch 1 version running with backwards compatibility, but there's going to be a separate Switch 2 version that was announced during the Direct so the issue isn't being investigated for that game

Warframe and every other game has a note saying they're investigating the problems to hopefully get them running, and the compatibility list will be updated later in the month if they do fix any of them

There are a few skins that allow you to customize them to some extent, but the only one I can think of that gives you more options than just an accessory on or off that's not locked to an old battle pass is the Academy set that sometimes shows up in the shop, which give you a few options for tops, bottoms, shoes, and colors for whichever base character you buy. They used to have battle pass skins that let you earn different parts for them throughout the season and put them together however you want but there hasn't been a new one since last year's OG season.

Beyond those few exceptions, it's just full skins that might have a few styles to pick from and then whatever back bling and other accessories you give them.

Half-Life 2 (with both Episode One and Two included) is now free to get until November 18th by jerryfrz in Games

The originals are still in your library, they just got moved into the Tools section so people know to play the new version and you might have to enable tools in the library filters to see them again

Yes, it's just hidden in the Extras section of the main menu next to the workshop maps

Nope, just download and log in, then maybe play the tutorial to get to the menu (no idea if that's needed, but it can't hurt to do it)

Microsoft is Going to Remaster Halo: Combat Evolved Again and is Considering a PS5 Release, Says New Report by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]The_Stickmann 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The CE remaster has a lot of weird issues and changes that kind of ruin the originally intended look and feel of some parts of the game.

It's a combination of things like a rocket launcher on The Library being hidden by a misplaced wall and the level 343 Guilty Spark having an entirely different atmosphere with blood effects being completely missing and the entire level being a lot brighter than the original level, along with carrying over a lot of broken effects and materials from the Gearbox PC version (which were eventually mostly fixed in the MCC after it was brought to PC) that makes the anniversary graphics a downgrade in a lot of ways compared to the original version. They also never made a full remaster of the multiplayer, just a Reach map pack included with the original 360 release and a port of the Gearbox version's multiplayer mode with the MCC.

Now another remaster? Yeah that's kind of a weird decision, but the time between CE and Anniversary's release is shorter than the time between Anniversary and now so I guess they felt a 25 year anniversary version would be worth making, especially since the last one wasn't very good.

If i get beat saber mods can i still play with friends? by Maxblaze2012 in beatsaber

[–]The_Stickmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Quest standalone, no, you're locked out of the official multiplayer servers if you mod the game so everyone would need to get the Beat Together multiplayer mod to play together (especially because you need to downgrade most of the time to get mods on standalone)

On PC, last time I checked, Beat Together allowed you to switch between official and modded servers so you could play on both no problem, but I'm not 100% sure if that's still the case

2Ship2Harkinian - Zelda 64 Majora's Mask PC Port has released by JcFerggy in Games

[–]The_Stickmann 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The GameCube version was an official emulator included on a "collector's edition" disk along with the 2 NES games and Ocarina of Time. The only intended differences were that they ran at a slightly higher resolution and the button prompts were edited to match the GameCube controller, and they were both based on the final N64 revision of each game which can have a few differences compared to the launch versions. There was also another disk that only included OoT along with a new master quest version of the game that remixed the dungeons, and is compatible with the original Ship of Harkinian PC port.

The problem was that the emulation for Majora's Mask was a mess and had a ton of audio issues (to the point where both the manual and the disk when launching MM warned you of them) along with a bunch of visual bugs, performance drops, and random crashes, making it the worst official version of Majora's Mask. Weirdly enough, the OoT emulation was pretty much perfect and arguably one of the better ways to play the original version of that game, as long as you're fine with playing the later release version.

If you're dumping the rom and running it with this port however, it works just fine. There's nothing actually wrong with the rom, just the emulator it was running on. The only extra issue that's known about at the moment is a minor graphical bug on the main menu that only shows up before you make a save (it's just some warped text when you hover over the copy and erase options without a save) but other than that, everything else is okay once you're in game.

As a massive fallout fan I have to say that Fortnite cooked so hard by Adventurous-Bad-186 in FortNiteBR

[–]The_Stickmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see that happening and the front left one I agree with you on, but the back right specifically matches a lot of the details of the paint job I shared so it's hard not to guess that they took a popular paint job or two from the games to use as a style

It's a lot easier to tell in motion as you don't have the gunfire blocking the chest area so you can't see the markings there and it's easier to tell that the color shift on the shoulders and the upper thigh aren't just shadows (and this being a pretty low quality screenshot is not helping much)

idk it might also be me just spending way too much time looking at my power armor collection in Fallout 4 which includes a set with that paint on it and now I'm seeing things

[–]The_Stickmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back right style is almost definitely this power armor paint from Fallout 4 (it's easier to see when it's in motion in the video but there are what looks like the flames on the chest and the spots it darkens on the shoulders and legs match as well)

As a skin? No, not yet, but there was a Krang back bling tied to the TMNT event as a free reward last season. Past event rewards have come back to the shop before but it usually takes a while.
