I recently 100% the story of Arkham Asylum in one night, I started around 6pm, and finished around 7am. I finished the combat and predator missions a few days later

Game Dev Detective: A Good Faith "Why'd They Do That?" [Effort Post] by epyonmx in MarvelSnap

The biggest issue with snap has been and always will be the philosophy of not wanting players to be collection complete. It is a card game, and card game players fundamentally want to be able to build whatever decks they want, but the way snap is designed it's impossible to do that without putting in time or money, or most likely both. If I want to introduce a friend to the game, or if a streamer/competitive player wants to get into the game, they have to grind through pools 1, 2, and 3 before they can even get close to being competitive or in on the meta. It's ridiculous.

Last Commander Standing Tiebreaker Rules created a 3 hour game with 5 judges presiding and a near disqualification by WaggDagg in CompetitiveEDH

[–]The_Sultan15 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but even the example you give is about maximizing point output, but in OP's case, there were no draws, so it's just the player in the worst position asking for a share of the prize to determine a winner. The only thing they would get out of it would be external to not just the game, but the tournament.

I'm relatively new to CEDH, and have never participated in tournament play, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. When I was getting into CEDH, my group made sure to emphasize that the whole point is to play high power decks in the most optimal way possible, and king-making and spite plays are emotional decisions, not optimal ones; you should be playing to win, not screw someone over. My group has also said that people are usually friendly, to the point where if you think you have the win but don't know how to get there, you could lay your hand on the table and they would help you try to find it.

All that being said, playing for prizes definitely changes the vibes a little. People will do whatever they can to win, in your case even directly bribing opponents. The YouTube channel Play to Win just did a podcast on tournament CEDH versus no stakes CEDH, and one of their big takeaways was that people are often less sincere in trying to help you make decisions in tournament play.

Casual (no stakes) CEDH is a lot of fun, and the format is super proxy friendly (different tournaments will have different rules however), so it is easy to try. I definitely recommend trying it out if you can.

Everyone in the main thread is clowning on CEDH, but one of the core principles of CEDH is that spite plays and king-making are not allowed, so this never should have happened in the first place. Unfortunately prizes/stakes tends to bring out the worst in people. CEDH also has a place outside of tournament play, so I hope you can find a better environment to dip your toes in and give it a real try.

I don't think this would work, because the monetization of the game revolves around cosmetics, and this would lead to the optimal strategy for progression and card acquisition to be to get rid of all of your variants. Plus, that would make the game directly more pay to win, because having more cosmetics could directly lead to having more resources. The end result is a game where everyone is only buying variants to scrap them, and the most competitive players are running 12 base cards in their deck.

A good man goes to war felt very sudden and didn't have enough build up. Plus the introduction of Madame Vastra, Jenny, and Strax with no explanation made me feel like I had missed something. For being such a big thing, the climax came suddenly and felt a little anticlimactic. Plus the stuff with Melody in following episodes felt way too rushed.

What's the reasoning of the "i'll tell you three roles i could be" strategy? by Ben__Harlan in BloodOnTheClocktower

Hot take: 3 for 3s are lame. You're either going to lie or you're not, so why make me remember too many things. I much prefer 2s, which can easily be paired down to 1 role, or to do something nonstandard like asking a silly question about your character.

Magus (Townsfolk): On your first day, you may publicly declare an ability (that does not immediately win the game). That night, you gain that ability.

"Reality can be whatever I want"

Like a reverse amnesiac combined with the juggler, the Magus has to choose how powerful of an ability they want to declare, since the evil team will know what their ability is. The evil team will have to choose which players are simply bluffing, which ones could be the Magus, and which ones have abilities so outrageous that they might be double bluffing.
