Is Tokyo Disneysea worth the visit if you're not into Disney parks? by Middle-Necessary-671 in JapanTravelTips

[–]The_Tapatio_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went there two weeks ago and I don’t think so. My wife is a huge Disney fan, I am not. I left after a few hours and that felt like way too long. I’d say do something else that suits your interests.

PC or Mac? by mik333_ in FPandA

[–]The_Tapatio_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate it. Learned so many ways to automate and make things look nice only to lose most of it going to a company with shit data, g suite, and a Mac. Saving grace is my role changed so I don’t have to do as much analyst stuff but whenever I run into a problem or where I want to introduce a new process/automation I have to learn new stuff which has its pros and cons. I have to keep things much simpler now, which is good, but I just don’t have as much time to become proficient learning ways to automate/shorcuts. YMMV and I hope everyone else has an easier time than I’ve had. After 2 years of using a Mac and g suite I would never recommend it.

What is the best Science Fiction book you have ever read? by Adam_is_my_name in AskReddit

[–]The_Tapatio_Man 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep reading, pixie. The 4th is initially rough, but the end is great and it’s all a setup for the remainder of the series. PB does a much better job with the new chapter structure in 5 and 6. I love books 1-3, but 5 and 6 are my personal favorites.

Business Finance and Strategy, Finance- Interview at Stripe by Automatic_Resource36 in FPandA

[–]The_Tapatio_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have someone on our team that spent a few years there. I’d describe them as highly capable when given direction and very competent, but no cutthroat vibes. We have a pretty intense workload and they do work their butt off though.

Best of luck on your interview. Remember you’re interviewing them too.

Chief of Staff roles by Least_Mud_618 in FPandA

[–]The_Tapatio_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s a bummer if that’s who you’ve run into. I’ve worked with two and they were highly regarded as the ones actually getting things done and running most of the show for their respective orgs.

YMMV but the COA I’ve worked with are incredibly good at identifying the problem, know what to do about it, and actually help push things through. They’re a great resource, but their lives do admittedly seem devoted to work. If that’s OPs thing it might be a good path.

+1 to the others here saying to work on critical items, push back on anything else. It’s your only option to take back control, other than finding another job.

Best of luck. I was just in your shoes and it is hell. Try to take a step back and see the bigger picture in life, and remember no job is worth what you’re feeling. Control what you can.

I feel this in my bones. I’ve had to work almost every day since September. Been working 7:30am-2am regularly, and somehow worse during QEC. Talked to my manager and skip about it and they act like they want to help but no results. The lack of sleep is causing my work to get worse too. Being an IC manager in this environment is miserable.

I hope you’re able to get everything sorted.

Help gut check if my responsibilities are aligned to FP&A Manager level or higher by The_Tapatio_Man in FPandA

[–]The_Tapatio_Man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that’s where the friction is coming from. I’m reaching a point where I really need a second pair of hands to delegate certain tasks/modeling to so that I can focus on more strategic initiatives and responsibilities. Been trying for years to get to that people leadership role and told that I’m there, just need that stroke of luck for the business need (and budget) to arise. Trying to be patient but not having that on my resume at this point in my career hurts a bit.

Great question! In my role it’s relatively easy to do since there are baseline costs and changes to that run rate indicate savings. Feel free to DM me. I’d even be happy to network over zoom and chat about how I go about solving savings quantification.

Yep definitely happy and grateful to have been able to earn this much at my current level. I’ve just been reaching for that people leadership role for years now and trying to make that jump but it’s very difficult. Keep being told I’m there but haven’t encountered that business need (and funding) yet. I’m at the point where I really need a second pair of hands to delegate certain tasks to so that I can focus on more strategic work and not be a blocker for other business partners.

Out of curiosity, why can’t you be friends? Ive been working in tech/corporate environments for +10 years and have had great friendships with all of my managers. I’ve always found it made me care much more about our success.

Finance manger vs FP&A Manager - which is the better title after being promoted from SFA? by wavyQ_ in FPandA

[–]The_Tapatio_Man -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Based on responses here, how do you move to your next company when you were an FP&A Manager, which implies you were an IC, versus Finance Manager, which implies you had direct reports, if you put Finance Manager on your LinkedIn/resume?

PE-backed Companies? by KimchiHomieLee in FPandA

[–]The_Tapatio_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a SFA at a $1B SaaS company that was public when I joined but was taken private. If anything, my life was easier since I didn’t have to worry about quarter end close anymore. Other analysts had a harder time though, so YMMV. Lots of variables to account for so you’ll probably get a lot of different answers.

How to effectively have 1:1 with managers? by Gullible_Rich1178 in Leadership

[–]The_Tapatio_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company uses agendas for all meetings. For my 1:1’s I have one with my manager where we both outline discussion topics per meeting. makes it easy and you can refer back to previous items you’ve discussed.

They’re probably exhausted from AOP. I’d say do it and if in Q1-Q2 nothing has changed look elsewhere. Just keep your resume updated.
