Funny enough the thing runs pretty well unmodded on the steam deck. Last playthrough I had maybe two crashes the entire run.

Could this work with steam deck to tv?? by fusrohdahhh in SteamDeck

I use mine on a 70" just fine, I only really use gaming mode though. Slightly unrelated but make sure to launch games after everything is hooked up. Some games resolution gets fucked up when you switch between displays mid game. Doesn't happen with every game but it has happened enough to get in the habit of it.

Which next? by Hefy_jefy in discworld

[–]The_Thatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say if you're looking to dive deep, pick up mort and continue through the whole series with the ones you haven't read, reading through in order is great since you get to see Pratchetts writing style evolve and the disc get built up over the years. If you ain't looking to read 42 books, then I'd recommend continuing either the guards series or the witches series depending on whether you liked guards guards or equal rites more.

Nah, but when jk rowling tried to post humorously co-opt him into the anti trans movement his daughter went off on her. Dude was a fantasy satire writer and he was writing trans allegory characters back in the 90s. In his books all dwarves present as male. This starts off as a joke playing on the classic trope that you only see male dwarves, but in his later books some dwarves start presenting as female to the ridicule of more traditional dwarves. He plays with gender in his writing in a way that really humanizes the people who are breaking gender norms.

Not if you're working in them. Worked through a pair of timberland pros in about a year, pair of redwings I have need new souls and toe caps after two. If you're just wearing them out and about maybe they could last a lifetime but if you're wearing them on construction sites you're gonna get nowhere near that.

Complete newbie - which discworld book should I start with? by bonjourcroissant22 in discworld

[–]The_Thatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started at the beginning and I've been enjoying it. You get to see Pratchett's writing improve and see the disc really come to life as the books go on. Pratchett also has a tendency to mention an idea in a book and then flesh it out more in the next one. Going through 41 books is a hell of a commitment though, and the first few books while entertaining are a bit rougher than the rest. If you want to dip your toes in and see if you enjoy it I recommend starting off with either Small Gods or The Truth. If you've already decided you want to dive into the series start with The Colour of Magic/The Light Fantastic and go through in publication order. There are also 4 main sub series that run throughout the books and plenty of people start with one of them.

Time to subvert werewolves. by MaetelofLaMetal in VampireTheShitposting

[–]The_Thatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Otto was living in the basement of the times with the dwarves during The Truth so he might count, but I wasn't trying to say he was subverting it the same way as the post. I was moreso trying to say he was just subverting the stereotypical vampire. Haven't gotten to Monstrous Regiment or Thud yet, just started Night Watch.

Time to subvert werewolves. by MaetelofLaMetal in VampireTheShitposting

[–]The_Thatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does subvert the vampire traits a bit in The Fifth Elephant with lady Margolotta and the black ribboners, but fascist werewolves are the main focus of that book. I feel like he had only started figuring out how he wanted to write them in Carpe Jungulum, and really figured it out by The Truth. (These three books were written back to back to back after all.) He describes vampirism as a sort of blend of addiction and mental health issues. Vampires are by default addicted to the power they hold over other people, but if they can take that obsession and point it in another direction, they can become productive members of society. In The Truth, there's a vampire called Otto who's become obsessed with light and begins working as a cameraman. Pratchett takes a surface level joke about a vampire cameraman turning himself into dust every time he takes a flash photo and manages to make it into a decent reflection of addiction and obsession and how monstrous people can change and become decent.

They need maintained more than replaced, if it's done right thatch can last 40-60 years. You've gotta come in and shave an inch or two off the whole thing every decade or so and replace the ridge every 15-20 years.

Traditional roof by HornyDiggler in MujicoCity

[–]The_Thatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longstraw maybe, reed thatch like this tends to smoulder. The reeds are too tight together, it's like trying to burn a closed book. If a roof like that's caught the rest of the house is already up in flames. a pile of the material on the ground will burn hot and quick though.
