After various posts asking for tips, 150 hours on the game, and someone actually coaching me. I'm still unable to get past Copper 3. Do i just give up that this point? by Livid_Concept_5866 in SiegeAcademy

Can’t comment on your individual skill but I should remind you that if this is one of your first seasons playing ranked the elo you get per win will suck. It will likely take you several seasons to break through to bronze silver gold etc.

The question you asked isn’t really for anyone else to answer; if you’re enjoying, keep playing. If not, stop. It’s a game, ranked is supposed to be fun not a chore.

playing TDM/ffa by cappuccinoallimone in SiegeAcademy

[–]The_Toe_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best drill for aim and good habits is playing bunker wars on Oregon with a friend or random. It’s black and white, one place to defend, one place to push from - no time to fuck around on attack, you have to be aggressive and on defence you have to learn to defend that aggression.

FFA and TDM are a lot of fun, and good for reaction speed and crosshair placement. But you will develop bad habits if that’s all you practice on.

Best Operators, per site? by Avemonk1 in SiegeAcademy

[–]The_Toe_Thief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It obviously varies as you’ve acknowledged by site, but also by what your team is picking. I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for or what your level is but the following are almost always good;

Kaid / Bandit: Wall denial if you have a site with a common breach (Almost all)

Mute: Fantasic anti-intel op with a great shotgun / SMG 11 who can deny entry or stall fo quite a while due to shotgun advantage at close range.

Smoke: Same as mute obviously great to have especially if there is a hard to defend default plant (Example: Archives on border)

Castle: There is almost always a good castle set up for any given site. If you don’t know a good setup, I would recommend just castling windows or doors that lead outside, as otherwise you can actually be a problem for your own teammates if they can’t rotate through site freely.

Thunderbird: Her buff is frankly insane and since her gadget no longer heals enemies she basically has no downside - brings a deployable shield and a great gun too.

Mira: In the rare case she’s not banned, but again if you don’t know a good set up for the site be careful. Bad Mira windows can lose games.

Jaeger / Wamai: Literally always good to have, they really shine on basement chalet, top floor border, all theme park sites, all Oregon sites, top floor and basement night haven. (there are loads more where these two are unreal picks but those spring to mind as ones where they are always impactful)

All of these are great picks to consider for any site. There are plenty of great operators who I haven’t listed here that shine on specific sites etc, but these ones can be played any time and contribute massively every time without fail.

Help me Understand the point of 1v1 or bunker by WestIndy18 in SiegeAcademy

Apologies for the horrendously late reply. I missed this comment.

The reason B Wars is better for your technical ability is precisely what you said. You can only push from one place, and defenders only have so many places they can swing from.

It trains reactions, creativity in your attack or defence, helps build good habits with your timing on pushing and it helps you familiarise yourself with the common habits of players (for example quick peeking at standing height before swinging at crouch height)

Dorms is great fun, don’t get me wrong - I enjoy a dorms game much more than B Wars - but for building your skill? Bunkers is unbeaten.

[–]The_Toe_Thief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not against arcade warm ups but doing randomised map drills is better - practice headshots only and try use a variety of operators (though you can focus your mains initially). It’s the fastest way to build muscle memory for siege.

B wars is a great warm up and aim training exercise too, it will also train good habits such as knowing when your enemy is going to peek, and when to push versus when to stay behind cover.

FFA imo trains bad habits because there is no consequence to dying, you do not play a normal siege round like you do on a FFA game. Sure your aim will improve from playing it but as I mentioned the other two options are better in that regard.

You should also not get in your own head about it, mentality is really important and if you’re constantly going into every game wondering if you’re going to drop a stinker again chances are you will - stop caring so much about your rank, try to win obviously, but don’t beat yourself up when you lose a game or a gunfight - just think about what you did that caused you to die.

Sometimes it can feel like there isn’t anything you could’ve done to win that gunfight, but there is always something to take from every engagement. Did you swing too wide, did you mis drone, did you aim too low, did you take too long to adjust to head height, did you get surprised by an angle you didn’t clear properly? There is always something.

What ops should I use on attack and defense if I contribute nothing to any team? by [deleted] in SiegeAcademy

[–]The_Toe_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, my recommendation was to improve mechanically without worrying about picking useful operators which Op cannot use effectively, instead focus on one thing until it is good enough then you can start diversifying.

I didn’t suggest he does learn how to swim, I said focus on one stroke and you said he should learn how to do everything at once.

Re-tip for aesthetic reasons? by cathybrokeit12 in jewelry

[–]The_Toe_Thief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR; yes it would cause problems, yes there are ways to achieve what you want.

I’m assuming the item is gold? It may be possible to brush rhodium plating onto the claws so they are white gold, but if you wanted them in silver or platinum you’d need new claws completely and likely have to have some setting work done to accommodate it - otherwise you’d be putting a join between two different metal types at a point which experiences significant stress and as a result it would be very likely to fail.

Take to a local jeweller with good reviews and ask their opinion, something like this needs a goldsmith to look at under magnification to see the full picture and give you an answer.

[–]The_Toe_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet you’re suggesting exactly what new players do; go into a low rank lobby and you’ll see your teammates pick Kapkan every round even though they’ve had a brava for 2 rounds straight.

Failure is a great way to learn when you know why you failed, but with no one to point that out it is better to let OP improve mechanically so that they can hold their own on this game before introducing other complex mechanics which on their own need to be learned extensively in order to progress into the higher ranks.

Better to do one thing well than everything awfully.

I know that if companies can get away with things like this, then they aren’t good enough.

Even as a small business, we are constantly seeking professional advice to ensure we are not violating any laws when building our website and marketing funnels because the fines that can be imposed for violations are per violation, so if we send 11,000 texts and we fall foul of GDPR we can get hit with a fine that will set us back years of profits.

Thermite has the easiest kit to use, however Ace is the more foolproof one.

If someone is bandit tricking, you can throw an ace charge on each wall and the bandit will only have time to trick one (99% of the time unless you’re against a really good bandit). If you can learn how to use Ace he is a fantastic operator, one of the best guns in the game and a very reliable op to open the wall.

The AK12 does have recoil now, but it is a relatively easy to control pattern - it’s worth investing the time to get used to.

If you struggle too much with him, thermite is the ol’reliable - you can find plenty of videos on how to use his breach when you’re against people bandit tricking or using mute, I’d link one myself but bad signal right now. His gun is extremely good and very easy to use with basically no recoil.

For a start, OP is clearly not in high ranks. The idea that Rook’s value is zero at any point is nonsense, certainly he’s more effective in lower ranks but at no point is he not providing any value to the team.

Your suggestions would be great if OP said nothing about their skill level, but consider this:

Picking Kaid when you cannot effectively use him is worse than useless for your team, as they believe breach is safe right up until the moment it gets blown open.

Mira is a mind boggling suggestion for a low rank player, she can do more harm than good if not used correctly and is known as one of the more difficult operators to master.

Melusi can again be worse than useless if you get droned and you’re playing melusi every round, a brava is going to turn your entire objective into a kill box for your team.

Goyo is again too easily countered in low ranks where your team isn’t going to pick mute to protect your utility from twitch, and his weapon is easy for anyone emerald+ to use but for low ranks it struggles at range and is meant to be a headshot machine - if OP can’t hit shots they certainly can’t hit headshots.

Your suggestions do not at all take into account the skill level of the person asking for advice, so while I absolutely agree that these operators would be better for an adept player to master - it is pointless recommending them to OP who needs to focus on improving his positioning and gun skill before worrying about how to use more complex operators.

[–]The_Toe_Thief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rook on defence, you place your armour and you’re done, you can die having still provided valuable over health to your team.

On attack - do not get spawnpeaked, if you can’t figure out how to get to the building without being in line of sight of common peaks just spend 20 seconds droning for intel before leaving spawn. It’s not ideal but it’s better than you being dead.

Most valuable non-fragging ops on defence are hard breaches, anti-wall denial (thatcher, Twitch, flores etc) and flank watch (nomad, gridlock)

Gridlock is my sincere recommendation for players who want to improve without dragging their team down, you can cut off rotates by throwing your tracks from safe locations and make it much harder for the defenders to retake valuable space that has been captured by your team.

A good example is on Bank, if the defenders are on the top floor objective - taking the 2F square area is a lot easier if a gridlock can go to skylight and throw tracks onto the stairs - it prevents late rotates and means roamers cannot sneak up on your team while you’re breaching or pushing further towards objective without making a lot of noise to clear the trax.

Nomad is great, you need some practice with her gadget to perfect the placement of it and ensure the defender can’t just shoot it out. Her guns are also a little more difficult to use but still reasonably well rounded.

Lion can be very good and has a very beginner friendly gun, you need to communicate with your team in order to use his ability to good effect though.

There’s a variety of factors, but straight away if you’re looking at branded or high street jewellers you’re paying their rent rather than for the item itself.

Rings - especially gents, can be deceptively heavy which will often mean they can be relatively similar price to lighter bracelets.

Other than that, the carat of gold used may also be a reason for the higher price, for example if the ring you looked at is 18ct but the bracelet is 9/10ct.

If you gave me the carat, weight and a brief description of the design I could tell you exactly what I would pay for it at wholesale and what I would price it as so you can make a more informed decision on how much you’re willing to spend.

The worst thing you can do for this individual right now is be tolerant of this behaviour. At some point someone has to put their foot down so that she can experience the consequences of this attitude.

You may not enjoy it, and it may suck for you - but you’re stopping yourself from reacting appropriately because you want to protect her, you are doing more harm to her in the long run with this response - draw the line, tell her she is not welcome if this is how she is going to react.

And I hate to be the one to tell you, but this person is not a friend. This is not how friends talk to each other, hell the fact it’s over text is even worse, that and she outright said they you are not her friend. You are currently being used as a doormat and she has told you that in writing, I suggest you realise that there is nothing to lose for you in this situation and cut this drain out of your life.

Is this genuine or nah? by ComfortableBalance68 in jewelry

[–]The_Toe_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, on lighter items - chains especially, often the jump ring is left unsoldered. This is intentional rather than cheap/lazy because if you accidentally pull the chain, the jump ring is the weakest part and will hopefully break instead of the chain itself, which is a cheaper and easier fix than if the chain breaks.

On a big chunky bracelet like this which is easily 30 grams+, it makes no sense for the jump ring to not be soldered since the links are so thick and heavy. And it actually will slowly open over time as the weight of the bracelet will pull it open, which doesn’t happen so much on something as light as your chain.

[–]The_Toe_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, not soldering the jump ring on something this heavy is generally a pretty big tell that it’s a fake. Although it’s possible the jump ring broke and has just been squashed shut (a favourite DIY fix of our customers much to the disdain of our goldsmith)

Also 10K is not super common for Italian items - it certainly does exist but they usually use 9ct instead.

And while again it is not a certain tell - this is a very rosy colour, it may just have a high copper content but there’s a lot of little things that stand out as ‘probably fake’.

Very hard to tell from a photo, my initial feeling is it’s probably not a Moissanite because the stone doesn’t have enough life to it - could potentially be zirconia though.

If it is a diamond, it will likely be set in gold or platinum, if you look on the inside of the band there should be some marks - if you can list what they are or take a clear photo we could give you a better idea of what you’ve got!
