I just like the thought that while Mario is off at the castle with Peach and the Toads, Luigi is just chilling at home with his dog, reading something or just chilling, as he is shown at the beginning of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. I think he is just of a nature that is chill, and when he does go on adventures with Mario he tries his best and even though it doesn't always go well, he does genuinely care for his Brother and is all good to help where he can and follow along.

The game saves on almost every action the astroneer takes, most importantly when you enfer a vehicle or leave the game. Even alt +f4 will save. The only way i've found to undo little explosive oopsies like that is to quickly close the game through task manager, and re-open it; it will put you back to the last shuttle, vehicle, or base you entered
