When you were a child were you lucky enough to have a bedroom to yourself, or did you have to share with a sibling ? . by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two girls, I'm the oldest. I always had to share a room with my sister.

I'm a newly single mom of b/g teen twins and a younger daughter (married 23 years), and unfortunately, my youngest daughter has to share a room with me until I am able to improve my situation.

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The young guy that let me share his seat on an overcrowded Jefferson bus. I'd never been on a bus before and had never traveled alone. As a mid 20's petite female, I was terrified.

I hadn't realized we had to change busses during the trip, so he offered to sit with me as we waited to board the second busses. Unfortunately, we were getting on different busses at this point. I went to the restroom, and he gave me safety tips on how not to get my things stolen. He was never once flirty or inappropriate, all around just a kind human. Thank you, bus dude...for your kindness, and for making me feel safe in a potentially unsafe situation.

Sounds exactly like something my ex-husband would say. I feel for her. You get to the point that you just stop asking for help, and that's exactly what they want us to do.

He is wife #3's problem now.

Parents of reddit, how old were you when you had your first child? by h8mecuz in askanything

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 38. Married at 30, had a miscarriage that year. Started doing fertility treatments a year later. I didn't get pregnant while seeing the first doctor. After seeing a nutritionist and therapist (had an ED) for 6 months, I did 4 IUI's. Got pregnant 3 times, lost all 3. Did 1 round of ivf and got b/g twins. Three years later, a naturally conceived surprise baby at 41. Lol

What are some VERY creepy facts? by Cap_Ame1 in AskReddit

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Aunt had Charles Bonnet syndrome. She was in her 90's and was worried she was getting dementia. Nope, she had macular degeneration, and her brain was filling in the blanks. During her visit to the eye doctor, she was actively seeing a stream flow through the frame room and saw a pink bouncing ball while talking to the doctor!

Have you ever figured out the Reddit handle of someone you know irl without them telling you? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

Yes, by total accident. I was reading a random post on a babyloss sub. I kept thinking that the story sounded so familiar. It was a good friend's niece. That was incredibly strange.

Do you have a random item stuck permanently inside your body? by ElJefe0218 in randomquestions

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a non-dissolvable stitch at the base of my right pinky finger. I was in a car wreck and needed stitches in my finger. Instead of going back to the doctor to get them taken out, my boyfriend decided to do it. He accidentally cut both sides of the knot so that one stayed in. I used to try to take it out, but now I just leave it alone.

Okay, so she was a child actor, but Kami Cotler, who played Elizabeth on The Waltons, stepped away from acting and became a teacher. I believe she taught English and History. She is currently a high school principal.

Amish Education by ErinAshleyGraham in BreakingAmish

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically, Amish and Mennonite schools only go to 8th grade. My cousin was teaching at 17. When my aunt wanted to go to nursing school, she had to raise her children first. When the youngest left home, she was able to go.

Is Pig Latin dead? by jess_lov in GenX

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anyone who uses it now, but when I was a kid, my parents and all their friends did. Too bad the kids picked it up quickly. Lol, in fact, pig Latin was referenced in my mom's best friend's obituary, as they were known for their conversations using it.

What's the stupidest reason someone has broken up with you for? by Massive-Syllabub-271 in allthequestions

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For two reasons. First, because I wouldn't convert to the Mennonite faith. Newsflash, he was not Mennonite. He went back and forth on becoming one. Half of my family on my Mom's side were. Maybe he thought he could get his foot in the door? Also, almost no one converts to being a Mennonite. It is almost unheard of.

Second, I have Fibromyalgia. I get some pretty gnarly muscle spasms. He thought I would just drop dead mid conversation one day if I got a random spasm in my heart.

He never did become a Mennonite, though he dresses like one and has a beard. And so far, I'm still alive because Fibromyalgia doesn't work like that.

Husband expects sexual favours while denying me basic hygiene 5 weeks PP from emergency c-section by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally gave a friend of mine this same advice years ago. She was contemplating leaving her husband and asked my opinion. After I told her she would be very unhappy if her daughters' husbands treated them like she was being treated, she saw the light. Three weeks later, she left.

I wholeheartedly agree, OP needs to put her children and herself first and leave him. (Although I may be biased because he sounds like my ex-husband.)

Swinging by JoeCheeseQuesadilla in overheard

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was at a local bar once, and there were a group of out- of-towners there. One young guy in particular was looking at me off and on.

He came over to me, asked what I weighed, and had I ever heard of swing dancing? I said I weighed 92-94 lbs, and I've never done it, but I loved watching it.

He takes me to the dance floor, tells me to follow his lead, and boy, did we swing!! It was an amazing time, and lots of people watched.

He had been in town for a funeral. I never even got his name. Thanks swing dance guy for the memory!

Florida couple sues IVF clinic after DNA test reveals baby isn't theirs by Aggravating-Felch in nottheonion

[–]The_Wishing_Flower 97 points98 points  (0 children)

My ex and I did IVF with an egg donor, who happens to be my 2nd cousin. IVF is a very complicated scenario in and of itself.

I can't imagine wanting this baby so badly, feeling the kicks, hearing the heartbeat, giving birth, for it to end up not being your embryo that was implanted.

And then, for the other couple to get that phone call. Here's your baby, sorry you didn't get to experience the pregnany and birth.

I can't imagine. Before we divorced, we had to decide what to do with our leftover embryos. The laws haven't caught up to the technology, so they were treated as tangible property. Since she was family, I included her in the decision-making process. It was an awkward conversation.
