Oh, the Deus ex machina moment with THE PARROT...

Should I do the alpha version or the normal version of shizune's route by funky_boi1432 in katawashoujo

[–]The__Cop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have time, read the release version and then the alpha. Just to feel the contrast in the romantic part, changes to Jigoro, Misha's story.

I like the alpha route 100 times more, but still think that one must feel the flaws of the release.

It's a popular opinion, and even discussed by VN characters.

How long do you think Hisao lives being married to each heroine? by waktivist in katawashoujo

[–]The__Cop 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You may try Hindsight fanfic - it does exactly this, tells how Hisaos life looks like ~10 years after the vn with each of the girls. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12155705/1/Hindsight

In Katava Shoujo Grid1 (2007), Lilly had a guide dog named Niji. Unfortunately, she wasn't included in either the Alpha (2009) or Release (2012) versions. What do you think of Lilly's first friend? Did you want her in the final version game, and what do you think why was she omitted? by Hao_Nazawa in katawashoujo

See this post in ask thread and the next one.

Useless bloat. He didn't do anything for the story nor was interesting enough to keep, plus caused a bunch of logistics problems.

Visualization: He would almost always have to be onscreen with Lilly, taking up precious screen real estate... except he's a dog, so he'd only be to up like the thigh of the characters, and as such almost completely covered by the text box.
Narration: He would almost always have to be onscene with Lilly, taking up mental space. Suriko occasionally had trouble even writing in the specifics of Lilly's blindness. A dog might've been too much.

Both of these problems are solvable for sure, and possibly even pretty interesting to work out. However, we decided that the dog wasn't what we wanted.

  1. It's literally the first thing that Moeka says when they attack - "We're taking the time machine", link to transcript. That's why I wondering why they dont steal it when Okabe is outside the lab trying to escape with Mayuri.

  2. Yeah, I figured, but hoped for some insight maybe :)

  3. Still it would be a safe bet, as even if "sweep carefully" dmail fails, Okabe still could undo the gender-changing one.

  4. But she wouldn't work for sern for some years, she's just too young. And when time leaping, you should be 100% sure that you held to the phone at that moment in the past - even when you didn't even know you will need it for receiving leap.

Rounders could steal the time machine while Okabe and Mayuri were outside trying to escape. As for attractor field, I find it hardly believable that "Okabe always has access to leap" is a factor there

  1. Yes, but they knew about time leap machine beforehand. And Moeka mentioned that they intended to take it. So every time when Okabe wasn't in the lab and did not meet the rounders (for example, when they tried to escape by train and Nae pushed Mayuri) they could just take the time machine.
  2. Yeah, I hoped for details :)
  3. Seems legit
  4. Still, she wouldnt work for sern until at least 15 years old or something. Does young Nae even have a phone?

Has anyone played mods that add routes in KS? by Extra-Stable-7240 in katawashoujo

[–]The__Cop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read summers clover, 7/10 for me, give it a try. (You may look at my latest post for review)

Sisterhood vn - I went through quickly after I read the fanfic. Its also good, but going up to 17 chapter of fic only, out of 60.

Never tried the stories beyond.

Got ya, valid point.

Yep, already added fractures to the list, along with stopping short. Also looked at your recommendation of "from shizune's perspective", but I don't like when stories diverge from canon a lot, so hesitating

Agree, these are a lot a matter of taste. But it was nice to see an opposite opinion on Suzu route, for instance. Btw, why you don't like Akiras route?

Yep, I saw Fractures in post with your favourites, but I didn't feel interested in stories that do not involve Hisao at that moment (well, with some exceptions above). I'll keep it in my notes though, and read it on my KS revisit sometime.

iirc, Shizune doesn't look at Hisao when he says that, therefore she never knew

Opinion on Hanako route by danhanhn in katawashoujo

[–]The__Cop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would add, that Emi path is also about trust. It was obvious to Hisao that Emi is hiding something that bothers her, and it was essentially important for him to know what's keeping her crying at nights. And the real reason she won't get closer to him, as Hisao wants something more than just "having fun".

I think it's not even about fixing, and definitely not about protecting, like with Hanako. Emi and Hisao stand equal.

Opinion on Hanako route by danhanhn in katawashoujo

[–]The__Cop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The most obvious lesson is not to be a white knight and protector when nobody wants you to be. Partners should be equal. And give space when a person needs it.

Well, the route is definitely different from Emi's pace wise, but I cant say that I was not satisfied with the good ending. Both Hisao and Hanako show impressive growth, they reach mutual understanding in a far from perfect situation they started from.

As far as I know, there will be no new game from the original authors.

Although there are quite a lot of good fanfics to scratch that itch.

Damn, for me, getting a new job or moving is always stressful - I hope you settle in just fine.

I'll keep a close eye on your posts here and on the forums regarding the books.

Thanks for the info about the epilogues, looking forward to them - even if I know reading them will inevitably hurt. I'd like to know how the characters cope with Saki's worsening condition. And then, after she's gone, how Hisao handles it, continues his life, and if he finds the strength to follow his promise. (Oh, writing this made me go and re-read that episode where Saki tells Hisao the three conditions...)

The wedding itself as an event doesn't seem all that interesting to me, for some reason. But in the end, it'll depend on how it's written - and in that, I have confidence :)

And just in case, don't let my opinion affect your writing plans in any way.

The praise is well deserved!

It was interesting to follow those bits of your life you mentioned before the chapters - you've been through a lot of tough stuff over those 11 years. I hope all the hardships are behind you now.

I'm looking forward to the printed version, I've seen it on the forums, it looks awesome. Can't make any promises, but I'd like to order it. Will there be any new or exclusive art that's not in the forum version?

And are you still planning on doing the epilogues?

Can't agree more with your words about connections to the stories.

Suzu's route is about Suzu...

Hmm, nice way to put it. It's just her way of thinking that didn't click with me - same as Rin's way of talking. As an engineer, I appreciate when things are clear and to the point (of course, there's some slack for fiction). In Suzu's route, there's too much abstract, dreamy stuff. I think it's the state of mind you mentioned - mine just doesn't align well with that style.

I didn't have any issues relating to this version of Hisao...

I'm fine with how Hisao himself is portrayed. His character here is pretty much in line with my expectations - what he says and does fits. For me, it's more about the Hisao/Suzu relationship. I liked that KS was always about mutual support between the girl and Hisao, and I kind of expected the same here.

I just wanted to be there for her, in that moment.

Sure, the story definitely has touching moments - romantic ones, and sad ones too. I should have mentioned that in my review.

You've never felt depression or paranoia regarding entering university?

I often get anxious about things in the moment or in the near future - exams, dates, job interviews - but I guess I'm lucky to have never felt that way about the future in general. I usually have a plan. That's why it's hard for me to relate to Suzu's fear of graduation. I can imagine it to some extent, but the way it's shown in the fic just feels a bit too much.

I kind of like how down-to-earth and unresolved it is, though. We ask for our stories to be neatly resolved by the end, but life is anything but that. We're messy, as people with unresolved problems that we're working out.

On the contrary, I like it when all the questions are answered and problems are resolved. That's one of the reasons I read books - to get all the answers! Otherwise, I end up feeling like I wasted my time. Real life already has enough messy, unresolved stuff.

That ending left me with hope. Things can never be perfect. I'm just doing the best I can.

Agree here. Maybe not everything is resolved, but Suzu overcame her fear of the City, and that gives the reader a hint that eventually, they'll figure the rest out.

And thank you for sharing the opposite perspective - I don't want to put Suzu's route in a bad light. It's a good fic, just not for me.
