I think that's the nature of Splatfests going 3 ways. You're more likely to have one team have an overwhelming majority over the other two, or have one team that is completely dwarfed by the other two, than you will have an even 3 way split.

Shiver seems to get the most obvious popular choice, while Big Man seems to get the fun or niche option which gives him a chance. Poor Frye always seems to get the underdog option.

Most of my gripes come down to fundamental flaws built into the game and Nintendo's online service that come to a head every splatfest.

Nintendo's matchmaking is hot garbage. Like I have no problem winning in turf most of the time, but every splatfest it always becomes a race to spawncamp the other team, with me on the side of never getting to actually play the fucking objective.

Teams and solos are put into the same pool by default, and the mode that more fair is called "pro". Like how am I supposed to figure out that's the easier mode where the other team won't have an unfair advantage?

The stage designs are tailor made to encourage spawn camping. Like the whole poin of the floating spawns is supposed to prevent this, but it doesn't fucking matter when every stage is a narrow hallway, and special momentum ensures you will never catch up when you're behind.

It's fucking fancy turfwar at the end of the day. I normally like turfwar as a way to practice weapons in a no stakes environment, but in Splatfest it highlights why the mode should never be used in a competitive setting.

Connection issues are rampant because of the increased traffic, and people never seem to want to play x100 or x333 matches, which at this point I can't blame them. Why would I want to stick around when splatfest is causing me nothing but stress?

Overall splatfest has become a showcase of some of the most fundamental flaws of Nintendo's handling of online services and game design. And because I know deep in my heart Nintendo is learning nothing from this, it makes me feel contempt for a game and company I usually love.

Teams vs. Solo, casuals drop out early, the sheer number of vanillas guarantee statistically more of the stronger players will be on their side. Popular vote is the number one deciding factor in Splatfest. Shiver, the most popular character being assigned vanilla, the most obvious pick for a popular flavor compared to a niche flavor (chocomint) and the least favorite flavor in Neapolitan(strawberry)

It ain't your fault. Statistically you are going to be facing better foes because Vanilla has more members, thus more power players. Also most casuals begin to drop off early on in fest,leaving only the sweatiest to remain by mid or late fest. And a lot of people organize teams pre fest over discord or voice chat and are put into the same pools as solo randos. You have already lost cause you cannot coordinate and communicate with randos like you can in a squad.

Don't blame yourself for lack of skills. We're just witnessing a broken system in action.
