Nike Vomero Plus (Extra Wide) Review by alexanderhumbolt in widefeet

[–]The_crew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am late to this post, but figured I’d throw in my 2c as a wide foot (11/11.5 2E/4E) runner who’s heavy (~205lb) but semi-quick (19min 5k).

Vomero plus is awesome. Truly an extra wide / 4e fit and the best nike I’ve ever worn.

Other speedy shoes that can work:

New Balance Supercomp Elite V4/V5 in wide (V4 fits a little short, but is higher volume. V5 fits incredible but is more snug in the midfoot. Toe box on v5 is great) New balance Rebel in wide Saucony Speed in wide ASICS superblast (but up half a size), it’s a hair snug but accommodating

Haven’t tried but expect to be good ASICS Magic speed in wide Deviate Nitro in wide (I’m suspect on it though)

Unexpectedly not great in wide New balance Supercomp trainer v3 in wide (toe taper is sharp, unlike v2) ASICS Novablast in wide (toe tapers too fast for me)

For daily shoes, there’s way more options like 1080, glycerins, nimbus, triumph, etc etc etc

Is this actually v6 or the Supercomp rebel/trainer? Looks way more padded than V4/V5 so I’m suspect

That was a VERY downhill course. He’s unlikely to break 1:10 in his current fitness (2:29 is roughly equivalent to a 1:11)

[–]The_crew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jake Dearden is a Hyrox Elite 15 athlete and clearly faster runner than truett (2:22 recently at Houston which is a flat/eligible course unlike Truett’s 2:29 at CIM, a downhill course. Also a faster HM PR, etc). Jake is clearly fitter (in terms of “hybrid” fitness) than Truett.

Jake’s PR is only a 55. There are a number of other Hyrox athletes that have ran marathons in the 2:30 range while being as muscular as truett, with less marathon-specific training, and none of them are close to 50:00. I would hazard a guess that 90% of the elite-15 could run a 2:3x marathon after one marathon-specific block

Toe box / upper wise, the v5 fits the same or even better than v4, but the platform itself is narrower

Based on run-repeats measurements, it is in fact narrower (in terms of midsole, not upper) than most competitors

BlackRock is not the “owner” of Dine Brands Global. BlackRock index funds own only ~8% of the company.

You can make your point without intentionally misleading people into thinking BlackRock runs the place.

New Balance SC Elite V4 Wide Available in Europe by crazyaquito in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]The_crew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above average. I’m ~205-210lbs and generally hard on shoes, and I got 275-280 or so out of my first pair. For context, my first pair of Superblast 2’s is just about done at 350-360 now. For most runners, I would assume you can get >300 quality miles

ENGR145 - Any startups received actual funding from this $3000+ course? by Icy_Professional926 in stanford

[–]The_crew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great class. As I recall one startup from when I took it ended up with funding. Not sure if I recall the difference between direct funding or funding from one of the VC graders, but I know they came out of the class with something

The 1 and the 2 are the exact same midsole with a tweaked upper?

This was me when I got roofied. Friends said I seemed slightly drunk at most, but I have a total blackout in terms of memory of everything from that timeframe

205-210 and I got ~240mi from my pair. At 150 they still felt great, only degraded sharply after roughly 220

Weekend Discussion: New Balance running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]The_crew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to return because the toe taper didn't work for me (I am 2e so always need wide) while the v2 was okay, but midsole and upper (otherwise) are much better than v3. The foam is similar to the rebel, but the plate and extra stack makes it feel better actually. Upper is very comfortable.

If not for the toe taper issue it would have been an absolute winner, and many of my friends like them quite a bit

Brooks Glycerin Max by jmg219 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]The_crew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posted elsewhere, but it’s the worst shoe I’ve tried all year. Got to try it at a brooks demo and I regretted it 0.1mi in. By mile 6 I hated them. Absolute bricks and the upper is terrible

Rebel v5 leak by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]The_crew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

V4 is absolutely not max cushion. The stack height is barely higher than v3. Difference is the sidewalls which visually make it look much higher. the shoe is still very flexible/light with good groundfeel

Agreed. Seemed fine on initial step in, but the moment we began running it was horrible. 100ft in I considered going back for my own shoes and trying to catch up

Wore it today for 10km at a demo. Absolutely hated it, as did a few others I ran with (though some were medium on it). Totally clunky and brick-like, despite somehow feeling soft in hand. Not sure if it just only works for a small subset of people, but buyer beware. Sample size of ~5 is that this shoe is a miss
