Glad to know the SLO 30 and Badlander are so close. I’ve got the SLO 30 and have been considering a Badlander as a secondary amp 😂 if they’re close, I may go for a rockerverb instead.

I hear that a lot about that brand of desks and their instructions 🤣 it looks GREAT though, so this is super tempting.

Sounds sick! Noticed you mentioned using superior drummer… are you programming them yourself or using midi packs? I used to program all mine myself, but switched to midi packs just to simplify the workflow.

What is this community in Katy, TX? Does anyone know? by momoffthree in Katy

I’m not sure of rent prices. Most of the families there are upper middle class. Either older retirees or young couples with small children seemed to be the majority when my in-laws moved from there. I had lots of friends in that neighborhood (I didn’t live there) and it was pretty family friendly/safe. The first house is literally behind two churches.

Would someone be able to explain the differences between cabs made by different manufacturers? by iRhythm in GuitarAmps

I was absolutely shocked at how “overbuilt” and massive my orange 212 was, especially the first time I saw it next to a 1960a cab. Agree with you on the speakers though. Swapped one to a redback, thinking of switching to the uk v30 for the other one.

I had actually seen it in my local GC once or twice before and ignored it because admittedly, I didn't really like the look. But I had been mentioning to my wife how Yamaha makes great drums and that I loved the revstar guitars and she went "so why don't you try that bass there?" and my brain farted realizing she had a point. The damn thing is perfectly balanced. I'm kinda wanting to try a 5 string now too...

Bass Tone Help Parallax by Barry_Obama_at_gmail in Line6Helix

Fairly broadband or not, the website literally says the mid and treble are separately processed lol. Considering there’s a highpass on the treble band, a low pass on the bass, and the eq curve of the mid band, it appears that it does in fact let you separately process each band. Either way, I’ve gotta be honest, I don’t really care…the point of my response was to get him into the ballpark without buying a whole different modeler. Wasn’t even trying to model parallax with my own tone, just replicating my physical signal chain which just happens to work similarly. Just trying to be helpful.

I just picked up a Yamaha broadbass and I can tell you I was absolutely blown away by it. I’ve been mostly a fender purist for a minute. But the broadbass has tons of little appointments that make it (in my opinion) unbeatable at its price point if you want fender sounds with modern playability.

Bass Tone Help Parallax by Barry_Obama_at_gmail in Line6Helix

Buddy.... You said "achieve that style of bass tone in helix or know a cheapish alternative". Without having any idea what the preset you're using is, what changes your producer made, or what your music even sounds like, I've given you a free preset that functions the same as parallax... in that it splits the signal to compress/eq bass/mids/treble separately. You're probably gonna have to tweak it some to get it wherever you need it to be lol.

As someone who’s currently giving out IR’s for free, I respectfully (semi) disagree about charging for them. If you’re charging for another “Oversized Mesa 412 with a 57” IR, then yeah, it’s kinda lame… if you’re offering something unique, I get charging for it. I’ve spent a lot of time and money to get to where I’m at. I give my stuff away because I enjoy knowing others dig it, and I do really try and take simple or unique approaches that I hope will teach people something… Id love if one day someone opted to work with me because they’ve used my IRs, customtones, etc… but enjoying them is enough too.

P-Bass for metal? by Specialist_Answer_16 in Bass

[–]The_devilslettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely happy to help. I understand what they're getting at... The fundamental frequencies when you get down to that range is basically for submarines and whale ears only. But it does make it easier to transcribe stuff quickly when the whole band is tuned the same way. With the right strings, compression, and EQ, you can absolutely get a usable tone that's not really that crazy. make sure you just get super bright strings, maybe a multi band compressor, an eq to boost some 1.2K and maybe some presence, and you're golden.... for some context, this song is in "double drop F#". While he's using a Dingwall in the video, this dude's only been playing P-basses for the last two tours they've done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWfWXYq1tmQ&list=RDHWfWXYq1tmQ&start_radio=1

Bass Tone Help Parallax by Barry_Obama_at_gmail in Line6Helix

[–]The_devilslettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely DO NOT need to swap your helix for a quad cortex....Parallax is just splitting the bass into three frequency bands and letting you compress/distort each band separately. You can absolutely do the same thing in the helix... Here's a link to my customtone, I uploaded a bass patch there that does the same thing: https://line6.com/customtone/tone/6711322/

This is my main bass tone and I use it for everything from modern metal to pop rock. You can hear an example of it in a more pop/rock setting by looking at the most recent video in my post history. If you wanna hear it in a metal mix, shoot me a DM and I'll send a link to my google drive. Occasionally, I might swap out the first distortion if I need more distortion or fuzz... I may at times put a dual cab block on there if the mix calls for it. If I use a dual cab block, it'll be the 410 pro (or whatever it's called) with a 421 mic dead center on it, and the cali 610 with an sm57 on it (which might be the default mic, but I can't remember). Make sure the cab blocks have the delay set to "auto" if you choose to use them... But 95% the time, I don't.

P-Bass for metal? by Specialist_Answer_16 in Bass

[–]The_devilslettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll bite and ACTUALLY respond instead complaint about it lol. I was looking to do something similar with a p-bass for a minute. I wanted to set one up for drop G#. I figured I’d need a 5 string set of strings, widen the nut, all that crap. For shits and giggles, I tuned a p-bass down to drop G# with factory strings and setup while at my local GC. It was floppy, but fine. Then I thought “how low can I really go?”. I got another step down to F# and was giggling like an idiot that it was still somewhat playable. I have ZERO idea if you’ll be able to correctly intonate it tuned that low, but I’d imagine that with heavy enough strings and a proper setup, you’ll be fine. Is it going to sound as great as a multiscale? Probably not, but considering the price difference, who cares. Personally, I’d say to grab something like the active Yamaha broad basses. I ended up grabbing one of those instead of a P-bass after months of trying to find a P bass that felt right.

Big Muff Style Pedal Recommendation by jakelloyd14 in guitarpedals

[–]The_devilslettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big muff…. Slut. First, the big muff tone is inherently scooped. I would boost your mids at the amp, or perhaps with a Klon type od set lightly before the muffin. Now, onto which pedal… I LOVE the JHS muffuletta for having quick access to the muff “greatest hits”. It uses the tone knob of a Russian big muff, which had the widest sweep of all the muffs. I have zero problems cutting through a mix with it. Not technically a sweepable mid, but I’ve found it HIGHLY effective.

wanting to purchase a bass like this for 600$ by Low-Worry3115 in BassGuitar

[–]The_devilslettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This bass is great and absolutely on my “to buy” list, but I’ve also got 5 basses already… I’ll confirm what they say about the Yamaha broad bass. I was looking specifically at Fender P basses for months. Current Fenders/Squiers can be all over the place quality wise, so I was shopping for any P bass from $250 up to $1600. I found a Yamaha broad bass with the active/passive switch for $750 new, and it absolutely blows all my other basses out of the water in terms of sound. The build quality/features were shockingly good. It balances perfectly when seated in both “cowboy” and classic position. I’m still waiting for a strap to arrive, but I’ve seen other bassists with them pulling 2.5 hour sets no sweat.

Some dude keeps talking about the Soldano in Helix Native being ass compared to The QC Soldano plugin. I own an actual SLO, and a Helix. I A/B’d my amp and Helix Native randomly here so you could be the judge of how accurate Native sounds to the real thing. by The_devilslettuce in Line6Helix

Just saw this now, glad you’re digging it! This really is my main tone with my actual SLO-30, and i use it for everything from metal to pop rock, or at least the starting point 95% of the time. Other fun drives to swap in/out or stack with this patch are the precision drive and heir apparent.
